"Train Kept A-Rollin'" (or "The Train Kept A-Rollin'") is a song first recorded by American jazz and rhythm and blues musician Tiny Bradshaw in 1951. Originally performed in the style of a jump blues, Bradshaw borrowed lyrics from an earlier song and set them to an upbeat shuffle arrangement that inspired other musicians to perform and record it. Johnny Burnette and the Rock and Roll Trio made an important contribution in 1956 - they reworked it as a guitar riff-driven song, which features an early use of intentionally distorted guitar in rock music.
In 1965, the Yardbirds popularized the song as an early psychedelic blues rock song, due largely to Jeff Beck's fuzz-toned guitar work. Theirs soon became the most copied arrangement with recordings by a variety of musicians. After guitarist Jimmy Page joined the group, the Yardbirds recorded an updated version with new lyrics as "Stroll On" for the film Blowup in 1966. With a highly charged rhythm section and a dual lead guitar attack by Beck and Page, it is seen as a forerunner to heavy metal music.
When the Yardbirds broke up in 1968, "Train Kept A-Rollin'" was adopted as a concert opener by Page's new band, Led Zeppelin, during its early (and again later) touring years. The song also became an important part of Aerosmith's early live repertoire and in 1974, they recorded it for their second album. Their version is actually a two-part song - the first has a slower, groove-oriented arrangement, while the second uses that of the Yardbirds. Aerosmith turned it into a hard rock standard and a staple of classic rock radio; it remains one of their most popular tunes. "Train Kept A-Rollin'" has been performed and recorded by numerous other artists.
In 1974, Aerosmith brought "Train Kept A-Rollin'" into the hard-rock mainstream.[38] Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, and Tom Hamilton had performed the song prior to joining Aerosmith. Perry recalled, "'Train Kept A-Rollin'' was the only song we had in common when we first got together. Steven's band had played 'Train' and Tom and I played it in our band ... It's a blues song, if you follow its roots all the way back ... I always thought if I could just play one song, it would be that one because of what it does to me".[38] Perry's band began performing the song regularly after he had been moved by the performance of "Stroll On" in Blowup; Tyler recalled his band opened for the Yardbirds in 1966:
I had seen the Yardbirds play somewhere the previous summer with both Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page in the band ... In Westport [at their supporting gig on October 22, 1966] we found out that Jeff had left the band and Jimmy was playing lead guitar by himself. I watched him from the edge of the stage and all I can say is that he knocked my tits off. They did 'Train Kept A-Rollin'' and it was just so heavy. They were just an un-believable band.[40]
do to how many characters we can put in the description the rest of this information could not fit in the description box. Sorry and thank you. - Hudba
Listen to “ Nobody’s Fault “ one of they’re heaviest songs
That one and "Round and Round" from the Toys In The Attic album could both be considered Aerosmith doing legit metal. Both extremely heavy and kick ass.
One of my favorites by them no one has ever heard of.
Rats in the cellar... another banger
“Lord of the thighs” and “spaced” are also great tracks on that particular album! Every track on the album is good !
Lord of the thighs! Yes 1 of my favs
So glad somebody FINALLY reacted to this one. I was like, "You think the guitar's showing off now? YOU AIN'T READY SON!" 😂
Okay that pun was magnificent, by which I mean absolutely terrible, but that's the good thing about puns-- the worse they are, the better they are.
Fun fact: That second part wasn't actually live. The crowd noises and reverb were added in post.
Two of the best guitar solos never played by Joe Perry.
Thank you Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner!
This whole album deserves a reaction. ☮️
Dig into any of their first 5 albums and you will find a ton of kick ass rock and roll songs. Check out "One Way Street" from their first album.
As soon as this video ends, I’m checking Amazon for and old Xbox, Guitar Hero Aerosmith and a Guitar. Man did I have a good time playing that game! Especially this song! 🎸 🔥
How on earth are you all not doing more Aerosmith?? They have SO many great songs. "Back in the Saddle", "Eat the Rich", "F.I.N.E", "What it Takes", "Sweet Emotion", "Dream On". Too too too many to list.
A real standout you might enjoy is "Draw the Line" (from the live "Rockin' the Joint" cd/dvd.) Blistering. Joe's insane slide guitar solo and Steven's screaming after it are unforgettable.
Steven Tyler and Joe Perry are forces of nature. Whatever you do, make sure to get LIVE versions of their stuff. Studio versions are of course also great, but you have got to see how they interact, move, dance, riff and jam live. Constantly extremely entertaining to see. No one has a voice or stage presence like Steven Tyler and Joe plays guitar like it is an extension of his body.
If you are just hearing them and not seeing them, you are missing a LOT. Just try one video. Please!
Thank You for The Train |
In my humble opinion the newer stuff Aerosmith did like I don't Want To Miss A Thing does not have the same heart and soul in the music as there older tracks from albums like self titled Aerosmith , Get Your Wings , Toys In The Attic and Rocks. This song was off the album Get Your Wings and the song that follows this one on the album is called Seasons Of Wither which is a excellent track , one of my favorites.. Peace...
early Areosmith had the swagger like Jagger : )
earlier albums are pure rock try toys in the attic
First 4 Aerosmith studio albums are pure rock'n'roll awesomeness. Live Bootleg rocks hard too.
My favorite Aerosmith song.
One of my favorite Aerosmith songs. Great choice. Love your reactions. Happy New Year to you both!
Love the transition from a studio recording to live.
Please remember how awesome you guys are together at this moment. Years down the road if shit hits the fan. Remember.
Old blues song revamped. One of the coolest things was the first half done in studio, second half live and spliced in. Then followed by their best song on that album.
We watch y'all because you're cool and we enjoy the music and your silliness. 😁
Aerosmith is one of the all time greats. I've been listening to them since my uncle played them for me when I was 5 years old (1981).
I grew up on old Aerosmith this and.mad magazine that was my seventies childhood
I can still see the 8 track in my 1971 GTO lol
Big 10 inch record is a must listen. Same album as this, I believe....
@Ravy Davy Gravy thanks!
Saw them do that back in 75 ?? The 70's were kind of a fog .. but Tyler pulls out this huge dildo swing it around lol
Big Ten Inch is on the Toys In The Attic album.
Remember this LP came out when I was in junior high.
Hell yeah... never missed a n AEROSMITH concert
got goosebumps off this one.
I recently learned that the guitar playing on Train Kept A Rolling was by a sessions guitarist by the name of Dick Wagner not Joe Perry nor Brad Whitford either, for one reason or another they were unavailable for the recording of this song and Dick just happened to be at the studio so the producer asked him to do it,he also plays on Same Ol Song And Dance.
Such a killer album! I grew up on that Aerosmith disc. I went to grade school at my church (Catholic) and I remember bringing the Get Your Wings album into into my 4th grade class and asking the Nun to put on "Lord of The Thighs". The Nun was somewhat put off by the band photo on the album cover. That Steven Tyler pulls a heck of a man-spreader pose.
Bought this when it came out, but have not heard it in long time but it all came back every lick. Oh, still have that album.
You would never see so many "air guitars" at any other concert than at an Aerosmith concert. The air guitar is automatic at an Aerosmith concert, it just happens.
Great timing just finished one of your Rush reacts. Yes we are weird. Love you guys. Great song. Do back in the saddle again please. From another smart Mark😎
Oh yeah. This was a great reaction, but "Back in the Saddle" would be an amazing reaction.
One of the greatest rock bands ever
Sweet ROCK and Roll.
My favorite Aerosmith release, followed by Toys In The Attic and Rocks.
Nobody’s Fault, Sick as a Dog, Seasons of Wither, Back in the Saddle and Toys in the Attic
Last Child is a lesser known banger. I think for me, its my favorite Aerosmith song. Would love to see you do a reaction to it.
I was fortunate enough to see Aerosmith near the stage. I won a pair of tickets from Rock station in Florida. Normally, I buy tickets in the grass area. I believed Aerosmith is doing their residency in Vegas. Hopefully, they will tour again before hanging it up.
Watching them live is SOO much better
Very nice piece. It's a very old song. In 1951 it was recorded by Tiny Bradshow. The song became known by the Yardbirds and later played as an opener at Led Zeppelin concerts.
Anything from Aerosmith's Rocks album. Nobody's fault is great
don't forget back in the saddle ( again ) : )
Trivia: Those guitars you hear are played by Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner of Alice Cooper. The Aerosmith guitarists Joe Perry and Brad Whitford do not play on this song.
I love watching you guys and great song
Best song on album-------Seasons of Wither
Favorite Aerosmith song on my favorite Aerosmith album
if ya get a chance to watch their Midnight special live performance of this...they are all crammed on a small stage and just ripped the heck out of this! Thanks for your reaction. One of my faves from my teen years! 58 and still love this jam
YEAH, THE ONLYYYYYY SONG ON THE ALBUM ( GET YOUR WINGS ) THAT WAS LIVE :) SO SO DAMNNNNN GOOD!
It’s an old cover song and a great deal of the guitar parts were played by studio musicians Hunter and Wagner that weren’t in the group.
THere is a live version of this on an old show called, "The Midnight Special">......
I'm telling you, you guys won't be disappointed in this song and many others by MANY other famous artists in their heyday!
This wasn't actually live. Pretty sure the crowd noise was added in later. There's isolated tracks pulled from guitar hero of this song, so clearly it was a studio recording.
Greatest band ever
I totally agree. From the 70s stuff all the way through the 80s,90s,2000s. They are the true essence of The Rock N Roll Spirit and the Keepers of the Flame.🔥💯🎸🎤🥁🎹🎷
Great guitar work on this track!
Get your wings best Aerosmith album train kept a rolling best Aerosmith song !😎😎😎😎😎
Back in the Saddle has it all.
AEROSMITH kicks ass!!
This song is actually an old Rock-a-Billy tune released in 1956 by Johnny Burnett. It's worth listening into it since some of the standard guitar riffs can be found right in there.
The Yardbirds also covered this tune.
Yard birds did this song in the 60s with Jimmy page.
It was this song which made Joe Perry my favorite guitarist in the world. Imagine my disappointment when I learned he wasn't playing.
First off, what's wrong with weird? Now I've been a fan of Aerosmith since the early '70s. I have to admit I had a number of 8-tracks in my case in the car back in high school, Rocks, Toys in the Attic, Get Your Wings and such. Great band and a 4 plus decade run for these guys.
Actually this song was first done by Tiny Bradshaw in 1951 and later by the Yardbirds (though a bit slower) ......Aerosmith just made it a classic, and the live version is even better....played in a blues band always loved to play this when everyone got some booze into them.
Cheers from Canada eh!
The Yardbirds version is a classic as well. I like the Aerosmith version just fine, but I will always prefer Jeff Beck.
Check out the history of this song, originally a blues song by Tiny Burnett, then a Rock song in the 50's, then a single by the Yardbirds, then done by Aerosmith...
if you want some great muse try space dementia live paris 2001 hullabaloo. insane piano skills. and how he sings while playing the composition baffles me. love your work guys. awesome bassline too.
Next check out Round and Round ! You WON'T be disapointed !
pls react to The Who - Love reign over me (live 2015). Roger is 72 years old and he nailed it!!!
The original was from 1956 by Johnny Burnette and it was a rock a billy tune every bit as down and dirty
More Aerosmith!!! Nice reaction
The white blocks in Steven’s tie ...are packs of dope ✌️
Need to check out F.I.N.E
Actually that wasn't live, They mixed the crowd in after the little drum solo. You should react to Jailbait. Not a big hit, But AWESOME song.
Jailbait is great, and the album it's off of, "Rock in a Hard Place" is a personal favourite of mine as it was the first Aerosmith album I bought with my own money. It may not have had Joe Perry and Brad Withford, but Jimmy Crespo and Rick Dufay filled in admirably in their absence.
When I was 12, all the cool kids were buying KISS and Aerosmith albums. The early '70s were intense.
What about Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin?
@@KevinQ1989 I was only 12 getting a small allowance from my parents. BS and LZ were definitely next. LZ wound up being my greatest influence when I finally got my guitar.
I was about to say "Kiss?" Then I saw you said when you were 12. LOL. By the time I hit H.S. in 75 if you told someone you still liked Kiss you would have been a socially pariah. Don't tell anyone. but I still liked Kiss. :)
@@boki1693 Your secret's safe with me, man. I actually stopped buying KISS records when "Beth" came out. I couldn't stand it at the time. But I kept rocking to my KISS Alive album.
I went to this concert tour
Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner did the guitar work here.
If you think this track goes back a ways, it goes back even further to the sixties with the Yardbirds.
Even further. "Train Kept A-Rollin'" was first recorded by Tiny Bradshaw, in 1951.
@@CamiMack5616 Right. I found that out after my initial comment. Sounds like a fifties song.
Dick Wagner and Steve Hunter did the guitars on this version.
You should check the original by Johnny Burnette & his rock & roll trio. Awesome rockabilly stuff 👌
This is not live. It’s a studio. The crowd is overdubbed onto the second part for effect but the entire song was recorded in a studio.
Yup. And what should have given it away: The "all night long" is a crowd bit. This "crowd" didn't sing along at all.
See if you can find a real live version. A real crowd really adds to this song.
The crowd was actually a bunch of office workers in the studio. They ran microphones thru the offices.
@@jeffk.9075 Funny they went to all that trouble when they could've just lifted it from somewhere else.
Steven Tyler is called
The Demon Of fuc*ing Screaming 🔥🤘🏻
great driving tune.
Neither regular guitarists Joe Perry, nor Brad Whitford, played the leads on this song. Legendary session guitarists Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner overdubbed these amazing solos on this track.
Aerosmith - Reefer Head Woman. Showcases all the vocal prowess of a young Steven Tyler.
DO IT, DO IT NOW! [read out loud with Arnold Schwarzenegger's voice] :D
It is not live, that applause was added after the recording. It's an old trick.
tiny bradshaw was the original artist in 1951 but Joe Perry was heavily influenced by Jeff Beck who recorded this song when he was in the Yardbirds.
One way street -by Aerosmith 👍🏼👍🏼
Finny thing is neither Joe nor Brad played the songs solo. Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner happened to be in another studio and were asked to come over and try it.
Good to know I'm not the only one who seems to know that fact! Those two would later become Alice Cooper's guitarists for the Welcome to my nightmare Tour.
@@vellaropedart9190 They both played with Lou Reed too
@@Itelkner Yep! I had "Rock and Roll animal" on vinyl. Some of their best work.
@@vellaropedart9190 Yeah, great one. I was trying to remember the name of that album. Great players, I've got the Welcome to My Nightmare dvd. Great jam in there with Alice just standing at the back of the stage just marveling at what his band is doing.
Hi, long time aerosmith fan here.
There is zero actual evidence this is true beyondtheir claim.
That wasn't live. The crowd noise was added for the second half of the song when they increase the tempo.
The original title of this song was 'FASTER, HARDER, DEEPER!'
BTW- this is not Joe Perry playing lead guitar, it’s session player Steve Hunter. This song really isn’t live, it’s just a recorded crowd added in to make you think it’s live
That's interesting. Joe and Brad are both good enough players to replicate this solo live, but apparently didn't yet have the confidence to come up with something that good this early on in their career. Or.maybe it was a producer decision to bring Hunter in?
@@Itelkner there is a story behind why Hunter and another guitarist were asked to play on the track. I don’t know all the details but it’s safe to say they were in the right place at the right time
Also Steve Tyler (*...If i am not wrong... Tallarico Calabrian anchestors) has italian origins . And this is , I think , a song of the prime Aerosmith . If i am wrong correct me
Love old aerosmith way better then newest
Very popular "outside gangbang at midnight" song. Gangbangs used to be pretty common before A.I.D.S. took all the fun out of it. Especially church girls. They were (still are) always willing to do anything, just like preacher's wives. NOT a country myth. 100% true.
Joe Perry on lead guitar, second best in the world
As you know Perry and Whitford didn't play the solos. Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner did.
Let the music do the talking!
I believe Joe Perry was not on this Too high so hunter from as alice cooper band did the solo .crowd sounds put in
Delightfullydemented65,
is right. When you got your ticket you just hoped they wouldn't be as Fucked up as you were.
Saw them in 75 and they were awful.
and I was wasted! Saw them in the 90's and they were a lot more polished.
It's a great song that was the reason I hooked school, (along with GOLD Bud!)
That was so Funny Suzie!
Thanks for the listen friends
U should do a throw back revue from 3 doors down love me when iam gone and kryptonite and Gillette ugly
This song is from the first incarnation of Aerosmith in the seventies not the '80s close to 15 years later.
BATMETAL!!!!!!!!!¡!!!!
Lead guitarist is Joe Perry. Still touring and coming up on 50 years together ...
They re 2
@@Nissardpertugiu what ??
@@maryannerazzano7692 Brad.
The guy who composed the heaviest tunes like Nobody s fault and Round a round and so on...
There re 2 guitar players in Aerosmith
@@Nissardpertugiu I'm aware of that, thanks. Aerosmith junkie here
My one favorite album from these guys is Gems, or rocks, or diamonds the title kept changing. Joe Perry was a monster on the guitar, when he left Aerosmith did a few albums on his own band name The Joe Perry Project they were freaking awesome
Nobody's Fault please !
Good joke good one😄😂😂😂👍
Could you guys react to HammerFall - Riders of the Storm (Live at Lisebergshallen, 2003) HD :D \m/
first??? woo hoo
We all have a lose screw!!!!!!!!
