My wife has a Ripmo AF and I just got a carbon Ripmo like yours with a mix NX/GX and a Fox 38. I agree that the Assegai wins for traction over almost any other tire, but I wanted something lighter and I found the Bontrager XR4 as the best combination of traction and speed with a weight saving of almost two pounds! I love technical trails and these tires work exceptionally well on almost everything up and down! Enjoy the dust Tess!
Sweet! That's great to know. It's amazing how much weight you can shave off by swapping those tires out.
Fantastic review. You have a great ability to be able to describe what it feels like on the trail.
Dr. Dusty Betty, that was an excellent tutorial! thank you!
Thanks for the great review! I have the Ripmo AF and it's probably my all time favorite bike. I have it built up a little lighter than its all-mountain intention and I have a blast on any type of trail!
Sweet! Thanks for info!! Love your channel!
I rode the 1st gen Ripmo at Demonstration Forest in Soquel, Ca. On my way up the Ridge Trail, I stood up and pedaled the bike up this short hill. I looked back thinking someone was behind me bumping the bike, but my friend who was riding my bike (Stumpjumper) was not that close to me. So I kept going until I hit another short climb and stood up. Again, I looked back to see who's bumping me, and my friend just straight up told me, "That's the DW-Link you're feeling". I was like what?!!🤯That was 3 years ago. I have since been wanting to get an Ibis but got caught with the hardtail bug. lol My next bike is probably going to be a Ripmo but the AF... Great review. Thanks for sharing!
200mm dropper post on a Medium frame! That's impressive!!
Great intro. Sending it with confidence.
have mine setup with with dhr2 front and dissector rear. Love this bike suspension design and geo are on point. fox 38 doesn't hurt either.
Very helpful! On a M Ripley at 5’4” with a 28” inseam that I adore but seeking more travel.
I LOVE my Ripmo!!! I’m 5’4” and I went small. But I rode a medium for awhile too first. I just felt the smaller was a bit more playful for my riding style. I could see it go either way tho for sure.
Totally, sizing up versus sizing down both have advantages. Just a different feel. The small is fun to flick around and throw around underneath you, the medium makes for a little bit smoother movements for a more "in the bike"feel high speeds and steep stuff. It's definitely a preference thing so it's cool to have you share your thoughts on riding a small. Thanks!
Having a hard time deciding between the 2023 Ripmo v2s or the 2023 Ripley v4s... this will be my first full suspension mountain bike (i've always ridden hardtails, I'll be coming off a 2021 Salsa Timberjack w/ a 130mm front fork).
I mainly ride undulating flow trails with chunky tree roots in Alaska, but do a big big trip every year towards the moab/colorado/northwest area. The big factor is I broke my back and neck 3 years ago whitewater kayaking, so I'm looking to soften the hard ride of the softtail up. I would love to have a lighter bike like the Ripley, but the extra cush of the Ripmo would probably feel better on my back. Any suggestions?
Very interesting thoughts on where you are on the bike relative to the wheelbase while going up ledges. That never crossed my mind. How do you find the stand over? A riding buddy of mine has a medium Ripmo that I was able to ride for a short bit and i was really surprised that it didn't feel huge to me (also, 5"4" with a 30" inseam) I wasn't even paying attention to the stand over height since I was so surprised that the reach felt comfortable. I definitely felt like I could tractor up anything!
Yeah, standover is noticeably higher than the small. It took me a couple rides to get used to it, but now I don't even think about it and it feels great.
This comparison made me go up with sizing, im 5'9 and went for RAF size L. Did you change anything in your size M cockpit? I talked to some people at the shop and they told me its best to put 35mm stem on my size L. Thanks
Did you take any volume spacers out of the fork? I'm still trying to figure out how to dial in my 38 on mine. Although, it'll be a little while before I can ride again and continue dialing it in. Glad you are enjoying your new ride. Cheers.
I did. It has three, I took them all out. I might experiment with putting one back in, but it's feeling pretty good.
@@dustybettymtb nice. I've tried having 1,2, and 3 in. I honestly felt like 20 percent sag was too stiff for me. I talk to some of the SoMo crew and they run their forks with 3 spacers but run the fork plush between 25 and 30 percent sag. I tried it the day I broke my leg on CDL and think I liked it... Lol.
How would it compare to a small Yeti sb130 w/Assegai front, Aggressor in back? (just wondering!:-)
That's a good question. I haven't been on a yeti in a few years.
I just surprised my wife with a new ibis ripmo af size small. She's 5'4" with a 30" inseam and complaining about fitment. Just stumbled on your review. Do you think she'd benefit from the medium?
She's right on the edge between a medium and small. I think if she likes writing really steep stuff she might benefit from a medium, but for a lot of trail riding, a small might be great. I might even size down on this depending on where I was riding.
I’d be doing some plowing with that 38! Nice setup.
It's a beautiful fork 👌
🙂
wow pretty
