I turned 43 two weeks ago and remember when this song first came out. Even then, I instantly got taken back to my days of tights under a skirt, wearing two pairs of different colored crunch socks, crimped hair and feathered bangs. And, yes, I had a few pairs of parachute pants! Also, Bugle Boys....colorful, but, god-awful! I thought I looked good back then, though. 😂

This song hits so close to home with me. I can still remember me and my dad, mom, and brothers watching the Dukes of Hazzard on friday nights. I still remember me and my brothers going to the arcades playing video games like pac man, defender, and so many others. I still remember us playing outside even after the sun went down. Chasing lighting bugs in the summer. Waking on saturday mornings and watching cartoons til noon. Then getting our fishing poles and heading to a small pond near the house to catch bass or bluegill bream. Or catching catfish . Great times. Very great times.

Was listening to this in our car two nights ago with my 14 year old daughter and I was explaining to her the lyrics and when he said "space shuttle fell out of the sky" I completely lost it. I've never done that before infront of her. It was uncharacteristic, but all of these 80's emotions flooded me. I was in 4th grade and remember that day very well. Man, what a song.

Saw Shrek 2 at least ten times

    I bought DVD's from a Blockbuster store
I had a Spongebob mat on my bedroom floor
And a facial scar from when I wrecked an ATV
I was a kid when Michael Jackson died
    And my mama cried
It was two thousand and something
In the world that I grew up in
    Pop-punk and crunk-rap days

I wish I knew Mark Wills so I could thank him. I found myself this evening letting go of a very painful past couple of years regarding my elderly Parents while I go through their/my things. I've loved this song for a long time, but never found myself crying over it. In fact, I always laughed about it (in a good way). But tonight, and this week after some major transition in my life getting past a very very dark time in my life that has spanned several years with Alzheimer's and legal issues by people who need to just stay out of people's lives, I found myself reminiscing and this song really busted my emotions open unexpectedly. I don't cry. Really never have since I was a tiny kid. Always put on the straight face, but I lost it tonight. Thanks @MarkWills for writing/producing/performing this song!

Magic 8-Balls. Original Star Trek series. Imperial measure in Canada (gallons...not stupid litres). Comic books. We played outside. Walked to school on our own. In the 80s we had MuchMusic in Canada.
