Reminds me of the 1st Nebraska. The regiment was formed in 1861 as an infantry unit and fought at Ft. Donelson and Shiloh. In October 1863 the 1st became mounted and skirmished across southern Missouri and Northern Arkansas until 1864. When the 1st was recalled back to the Nebraska territory to fight the Sioux. Their headquarters was Ft. Kearny and would be mustered out in July 1866.
Thank you Steve , I grew up just one county south of Emporia and that is what started my love of the Kansas Calvary. I still live in south east Kansas so again thank you.
It's so funny from an European perspective, Americans complaining about guns who were just outdated at the time but were considered normal for most of their armies only some decades before. Actually Europe scrapped their arsenals of any crap they had. As for my own research the Royal Saxon army got rid of their Thouvenin rifles from Belgium, which they gave to the US in 1862 - noone ever was happy with these rifles.😂

Thousands Thanks from Finland to both of you! You really made my day. For someone not able to visit Wyoming very often this was a gem.
