Wow. They announced they are working on camera we've known they've been working on since 2018.
I agree. No surprises here. Canon dragged their feet on this, but I guess better late than never.
This was a shock to no one. The R3 was their R1 in most respects. They were just embarrassed by what Sony and Nikon specs were on their flagship cameras; so changed it to the R3. No real surprise there. They are just playing catch up after 2 years.
@@roninrtist560 Yet we still have ZERO idea of the R1 specs and ZERO proof that Canon intended the R3 to be the R1. But Sony users want everything to believe differently.
@@roninrtist560 if that was true why doesnt it have dual cfe slots?

Simon! I remember your old videos filmed on your 7D!
Your level of effort has elevated your authority and long term reliability to an unmatched degree.
Thank you for your sincere leading efforts.
I appreciate that Cody. I work on improving something with every video. Thanks for being a long time viewer. I still have the 70D - you can see it in the background ;)
waiting for Canon R1 is like waiting for GTA VI to release
Hahaha it i!!! Makes it more exciting even though it’s frustrating 🤩 good things take time eh
Bingo!!!!lol
Those with midnight CZcams videos on the announcement CLEARLY had advance notice of the announcement. It takes time and effort to produce professional quality content. Jens Wegener, Jared Polin, and Vanessa Joy (among others) clearly knew and clearly knew how to keep their mouths shut. Their videos were produced yesterday (or before). I'm looking forward to the day when, Simon, you get that luxury, too!
Yep, maybe someday. I don't mind the rushed approach of being on the leading edge. Things might not be polished, but you are out in front ahead of everyone else.
What’s funny is those photogs are not good photogs.
@@000CloudStrife I'm not sure they have to be. They're in the photog media business. Not the photography business.
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker , yep, with advance notice comes an NDA that keeps you from talking about rumors. It's a trade off.
@@billmartin1663 while you are correct all the tutorials and such hurt the industry. Hey buy my presets or use evoto! Heck even lin and Jirsa is not good.
"The credit belong to the man who is actually in the arena,..." Congrats on your call, Simon!!
Wow Simon! So proud for you. You have taken the high road... chosen to be professional and it is paying off! Been watching you from the beginning and so proud to see you establishing those important contacts to allow you to make your own content and analysis. Congratulations! I will be using your link to purchase the Canon R1. Whether I keep it will depend on these subscription rumors and what turns out to be the truth. Anyway revel in your hard work Simon. It's great to see someone who works hard reach this level. Look forward to you growing this channel even more and establishing colleagues and contacts that can be trusted as you are trusted too! It's a great day in the neighborhood Simon!
Thanks for the high praise Donna. I think it is as you noted, these are the reason why sources have come forward. I have something extra for tomorrow on the R52 and it's from the same source that hasn't gotten anything wrong. I have some work to do today, but took the day off to relax and take stock of the progress. Onwards and upwards :)
The 45 Mega-Pickle @9:31 floored me! 💀🤣
Thanks for all your hard work Simon!
Can't wait to see what Canon has in store for us in the upcoming months
No kidding. Watch tomorrow. I only have a few bits of info, but its positive stuff.
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker Oh I definitely will. Cheers!
Simon, Great job. I used to work for the Detroit Red Wings. Spent a lot of time in Toronto. Now just chasing fish and birds.
Thanks for all your work.
Sounds like a much better existence now Chuck ;)
I can't wait to buy the Canon R5 mark IV in a few years. My photography will finally become magical..
The new AF technology sounds like a big step forward. As a wildlife photographer, if the new advancements in AF are also applied to animal and bird subject detection, and if there is a significant improvement in image resolution compared to the R3, this will be a fantastic camera for wildlife photography! It will be interesting to see what Sony and Nikon release in the next 6-12 months.
The key words . . . "and if there is a significant improvement in image resolution compared to the R3". I think it has to be over 40MP to get me there. I've been shooting the R3 this migration season . . . never again.
The resolution is low and the autofocus of the previous cameras can't even detect a static bird if there are twigs anywhere behind it. Can we get the subjects that are in frame in focus before worrying about those out of the frame
Good to see the R1 and 52K ... all the same day!
Thanks Brian. We will be out your way in June ;)
No other camera will disappoint as much as this one in the history of cameras in the 28 known galaxies!I will try to buy it lol!
Congrats! Thanks for maintaining us with trusting info, god bless you!🎉
I'm glad you'll be around for a long time Simon! I was with your live stream the moment the RF 200-800 was officially introduced for preorders and by 2 minutes after midnight I had a confirmation of my order! I was one of the lucky ones to get my lens in the very first batch released to the public and have you to thank for that! I'll for sure be with your live stream on the R5 Mk II pre-order moment as well ...the good Lord willing! Thanks, buddy!
Congratulations on your channel. Hope you get more sources!!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! And thank you for all your work
Thank you very much
Been waiting for this!
You and thousands of others.
Teaser videos for cameras now! I mean, just release the thing already. It's a tease of the upcoming teaser video on the announcement of the specs of the announcements announcement.
Lol
Nice work. I was looking for you at midnight, but considering you put out 3 videos yesterday, I figured you were resting.
Yeah, that's correct. I was resting. I figured there might be an announcement at midnight but the video that I put out around 10 o'clock with more than cover that. I want to spend a little bit more time to put out a quality job instead of a rush piece, providing much better quality
Incredible work Simon
We all appreciate your late nights and hard work
Congrats on 52k Subs by the way 🎉

Congratulations Simon, well deserved!!!
Thanks Paul. It's a nice sunny day here in more ways than one ;)
Congratulations, Simon!!! 🎉🎉🎉 You've had quite the few days. Earning trust with sources, cultivated over years, is awesome. I've really enjoyed your channel.
I'm hoping we get a development announcement for the R5 II very soon. Now I'll go watch Jan and Fro to see what they have to say about the R1. Have a great day!

Good job reporting the latest news 💪 I appreciate.
Great news Thanks Simon.
Congratulations on hitting 52,000 subscribers, Simon!
Thank you very much!
Well done Simon. Brilliant channel. Your integrity and honesty shines through.
You're making me feel old! I remember when the photographer had to be his auto focus! They still got great shots!
Actually, if you look back on a lot of those old photos, many weren't in focus, but it never really mattered. Even some of the best images shot in the 60s and 70s weren't always in focus - it was part of the experience. We just remember getting them all the time partly because there was more noise in images.
When I bought my canon 77D, I had a canon telephoto lens 85 to 300. It was always a soft lens. However, I compared the autofocus with manual focus, I could focus sharper! Consistently, not by much, but consistantly.
I've also repeated the process with the Tamron 18 to 400 and could still get a sharper image manually.
It’s not that older cameras weren’t capable of producing great results that separate cameras of the past with cameras of today… It’s more so the consistency and accuracy that modern cameras provide. That being said… It still has to tell a story and have good composition to be a great photo, regardless of what camera use.
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker Spot On! I remember when AF began to make great advances and those who didn't have it in their camera claiming they were faster manually focusing their non-auto-focus cameras. I was highly skeptical of that claim ...and whether their shots were truly in focus is another matter and a great point!
The hype is astronomical because it has been delayed so many times while Sony A1 has been out so long now and now the A9III…
I’m not sure how they are going to live up to what people expect.
They are fine tuning their subscription paywall.
This is underwhelming. Playing catch up and already a year behind
Good job buddy ! Pat on the back is well deserved. Keep it up.
U da man! These R1 would be a superb upgrade for me R7 thats a workhorse for sports on its own.
Thanks a lot!
I just want to see how the camera handles players when they do juke moves in football or pump fakes, & crossovers in basketball, since the R1 is supposed to predict player movement.
Nice I spotted Canon video early this morning and thought Simon will be getting a video out LOL , It will be nice to get the spec's Of both the R1 and the R5 mk II
You knew it was coming, but I went to bed early to prepare for today's video ;)
I kinda wished Canon would walk on stage in front of everyone and announce we've made the best camera ever made... Like sony did with the a9iii.
That would be blatant lying. They are playing catch up at this point. At minimum a year behind the competition.
Simon, what about the R5II?
Is the video about the R5 MkII coming today? :)
any word on the cine camera? The C70 guy was at the event today per your previous video, but no cine announcement...
Congrats Simon ! You nailed as first the timing of the R1 announcement, but I actually value more how your diving into patents predicted some of these standout features of the R1 💪
As I commented on your subscription videos (not sure you read those) I do not believe this awesome AF can be "sanely monetized" by Canon, because the required reaction time does not allow interacting with some Canon servesr. I'd rather expect the subscription in the other AI corner using AI for advanced noise correction etc .. Birders prefer to do that processing themselves based upon raw, but pro sports and news shooters need a jpg ASAP to be sent to their agency .. and when Canon reroutes that flow via their servers to improve the IQ (and maybe authenticate the image), then that could be a kind of subscription the pros would happily pay (perhaps also on the R5ii) while the ordinary shooters don't have to pay for the amazing AF etc, even when we don't shoot every day.
I do read most, but not all. Things are happening fast making it. challenge to stay on top of all the comments. I'm looking forward to seeing the new AF improvements in the R5 II :)
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker I do comment most, but not all of your video's 😛
I fully understand you can't read all, and my comment on your first subscription was rather long, but I felt it provided a rather different and more realistic angle to the at first sight indeed pretty upsetting idea of introducing subscriptions. So I was a little frustrated this insight failed to reach you ;-)
Congrats on your progress!
You did the "megapickle" again @9:32. 😀
Will it beat the A9iii?
What happened to the R5 MkII?
Yes, we all have been patient, and now it's here the Canon r1 being it on.
Do you think somewhere in the future a manufacturer would offer a 600mm-1,200mm f4.0 or f5.6 zoom lens which if paired with a apc camera body with a 1.5 crop factor become a 900mm-1,800mm zoom lens?
I already have a hard time to use my R6IIs autofocus to its full potential… how does it get even better 🙃
Why has Adorama posted specs for the R1???
I believe it is a mistake. The page is not ready for prime time with many sections not yet populated and some incorrect informaiton.
Straining to hear an actual shipping date, but I didn't hear one mentioned or listed. (??) I would think Canon wants to get the prototype cameras out into the hands of certain professional shooters first to iron out the bugs and get the proper firmware updates into these cameras prior to a final release date of shipping ? This is only common sense, of course 👍🏻They are most likely going to be using a form of SoC Advanced (System on Chip) open software to hardware architecture, since the deep learning aspects of the applied AI will demand this. It may well be that the Canon EOS R1 camera cannot be released in the normal manner of the earlier cameras, as the deep learning is learning from top pros. (???) Most implementations of AI must go through several deep learning cycles, as they begin their journey as being quite stupid, and slowly improve their algorithms (in theory) to understand (AI doesn't "Know" anything !) more about photography than you do (In theory ?). Congratulations go out to Simon, as I have watched his channel grow slowly and rapidly to now 52K viewers ! This is a very respectable viewership indeed. Hard work pays off Simon, and I thank you for working so hard at this channel, because it is a high quality channel, and I also thank you for not degenerating this channel into a salesy constant sales job of selling stuff on the Internet. I really appreciate this channel a great dear Sir ! 😃😇👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👌👌👌Thank you for the quality work !👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Canon announcement when you are in deep sleep ❤
Most fish I catch are smaller than I want, but I built my own darkroom in Jr. High, got a degree in Optical Engineering, and fabricated optics on 3,000 Abrams tanks, I have learned how get a sharp focus.
For fun, I enjoy photographing the T Birds, and the Blues when they are in upstate NY.
It looks pretty!! Cannot wait to hear about the Canon R5 mkII!
Simon, you are the man! Your coverage and understanding of the industry is phenomenal! I really appreciate and pay attention to you. Really want this camera, however we still have the issue of the Subscription matter!! The outcome of that problem is going to determine where my hard earned $$$$ go! In the mean time, keep being an information leader, you have my respect!! 👍🏽👍🏽😎
Staying with Digic X is actually good news. The added processing will probably have to do with the AI additional features. The bits that might be subscriber based. We shall see I guess.
Well done man!!
I own the R3 and R5C. A cinema version of the R3/R1 body is what I have wanted with a 6K sensor. (Smaller than c70, no ND, but full frame, better battery life than R5C) It's not the "Jack of all trades" if it doesn't have the cinema OS and Photo OS built in. I'm sorry Simon you put in so much work for these lame announcements from Canon that basically tell us and show us nothing... with a product very few actually want. -------------- You know what announcement would have made my day? 1.5x anamorphic squeeze in the R5C, but these clowns don't listen to their customers.
@HenryOrtlip Fantasy Island
It's time you got some UK pre-order links! Wex photo, Amazon, Park cameras!!! and many more!!!!!
Both links for preorder on the Canon R1 are both Adorama links. Please include B&H link , thank you.
Done!
Thank you sir! Appreciate you!
Ultimately it will be beyond most people’s budget, even the R5 MkII will also be to expensive for the majority of uses, especially here in the UK where it seems we pay massively over the odds for this sort of equipment..
I mentioned in a previous post this week that they would be announcing the R1 not the R5ii but i was ignored.
I wouldn't be surprised if the SONY A1-II comes before the CANON R1
Awesome news Simon !! Full steam ahead . So happy to see your channel grow and your contacts grow as well .
Time for a new poll . Will all of us R3 owners be selling / trading in for an R1? Hmmmmm???
Megapickle😂
What an anticlimactic announcement by Canon. We know basically no more than we did yesterday other than the camera is official. 🙄
Sure hope the R5II announcement, whenever that finally happens, provides more than the R1 development announcement.
My biggest question is what is the latest information on the release of the R5II? Is next week still considered plausible or are we looking toward the end of the year or even beyond?
The drip, drip, drip, is beyond frustrating. It’s downright irritating.
Alright - it’s showtime!
The R3 would then be like an intermediate level pro-consumer sports and wildlife camera.
Having said all that there are many pros that do much better than me. I just keep trying to get better.
As mainly a nature photographer (with 'action') I really hope the R1 has at least a 45MP sensor as resolution is really important, in order for me to get this camera. If not then, maybe in will be the R5 II? We'll see. 🙂 Love your coverage and you have reason to smile!!!!!!!
Didn't they say 30MP ?
It's 24MP. The 45MP feature is hidden behind a new subscription paywall. And if it doesn't have 45MP, one must wonder why they wouldn't just get the a1.
Way to go Simon 👏 👏
Thanks much
You are right about their patents. Good thinking.
🔥🔥 FOR OUR TEAM!
I just bought the flagship of DSLR the 90D I'm not buy not unless this stops 😂😂😂
Not much real information in the Canon release. I still don’t get a sports centered camera not just being an R3 mark II. There has to be more to it than that. 🤷🏻♂️
That Digic X was ahead of its time
Waiting for Canon eos r5 Mark ii
So master of sports camera
It's looking that way. Sports photography is very competitive to get the cover shot. The R1 is designed to increase the hit rate increasing the odds of getting that cover shot.
@@OrdinaryFilmmakeragreed, but do you expect the R1 to beat the R5m2 in its core competency of video capture - R5 being “master” of video while the R1 as master of sports? I don’t think the R1 can be the master of both without going over budget
I can't give money anyway! I started out with nothing and I still have most of it!
Nice one
Tony Northrup has just published R1 full specs
The R5 Mk II is the camera I need/want ...not the R1 ...which is going to be out of my price range! Hopefully a lot of the new R1 technology will be incorporated in the R5 Mk II!
Don't hold your breath...
@@MrPjtmac Why ...as a Nikon fanboy are you even here "adding" to this discussion? Are you so insecure about your choice of Nikon that you need to bash anything Canon?
Be careful what you ask for because a subscription paywall is nothing to be excited for.
I shoot Canon and find these new releases quite underwhelming. This idea that technology trickles down is a marketing tool. The current R5 can't even reliably focus on a static bird if there is a busy background. The R7 was supposed to have the af of the R3, another marketing lie. One doesn't have to be a fanboy to be honest about the shortcomings of Canon's new cameras.
Big words less info , but hopefully (probably) Canon can live up to this. Seems its btw 1d and r3 in size, top bulge is bigger so probably a very big and fast evf. Havent been this excited for a camera in a long while
I read in detail that patent applications covering enhanced auto focus, subject, tracking and predictive tracking. Is far more than big words, watch my previous videos on these applications. If you really wanna understand the details behind, improve your auto focus system.
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker So things we expected and all other brands area also working on. If i say sony or nikon is working on enhanced autofocus, subject tracking and predictive tracking for their next flagship(s) i would probably be right since well they all working on that for last few gens. Its not bad news far from it but also not shocking canon is working on these things for highend sports camera they all are and should be just to keep up or take the lead for a while. The other thing we learned also makes sense it either has more megapixels or fps than the R3 so it makes sense they are working on being able to move move data but lets be fair we want to know if its more fps or more megapixels or both for the last 3 years. First real info will come during Paris i guess since the leaks will be harder to stop.
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker oh sorry i mean big words from Canon not you :). They really makes this camera sound like it is a master of all trades and Hopefully it is
@@scb2scb2 its not that they are working to enhance it we all know that but how
@@Herkulez1981 really ? how is it different from what the others are doing and how ? I am sure they will all have a set of tricks that are the same and a few that are different but in general what they told today is inline with what most of us would have guessed and again most of us would also expect the others to be working on in their flagships. The simple fact is canon (rightly or wrongly) didn't give us much to work with today only defined 2 areas where they are pushing and both make perfect sense.
I got the feeling it will be more hyper than anything else
No, I don't think so. I saw an awful lot of applications that I sent this auto focus system is going to be dramatically improved. But we won't know until we actually get some reviews on this for sure.
Always is. I'm sure the features hidden behind a subscription paywall will be awesome. Good luck Canon fanboys!
The 45 Mega-Pickle . 🤣
Subscription; it’s one thing for Canon to charge a subscription if they are doing cloud-based computing, but if all the processing is happening in Camera, and you’re still having to pay a subscription… Not a chance! No matter what I’m not good with ANY subscription model for a camera but this would be even worse if the processing is done within a piece of technology that you’ve already purchased and they still charge you extra money monthly.
This is the most underwhelming update I have ever heard. No hard date, no specific specs. Told us what we already knew; Canon has a R1 coming “sometime 2024”. Annoying…
They are waiting until the last minute to release all the features after explaining the subscription paywall required to use the device you will never own.
@@jaysunkreuze1466 😂 R1 is definitely a no go. If R5 II is above $4500 or be saddled with subscriptions I’ll be officially a Sony guy.
Imagine having to pay a subscription for the AI autofocus 😂 if you don't you'll get the old panasonic autofocus
Let me understand, the announcement scheduled for today was to announce that a camera is in development...🤦🏼♂️
People just get a R3 while it’s still on sale. It’s basically a R3 with a more stickier Autofocus. We want dynamic range like 15-16 stops. Canon log 2. With built in luts.
No stacked sensor like z8 z9
Congrats on your scoop. The big winner here is going to be those waiting to pick up an R3, as owners looking to sell theirs may be lucky to get $1000 US for one in the near future. Looks like the R1 is an incremental upgrade to the R3. Whats up with the "master of everything"? Guess we better forget that. Still an expensive niche camera that seems underwhelming.
Has Canon built a camera just good enough to be slightly better than the competion, or did they build a camera to set the standard for years to come?
It will have the most advanced subscription paywall in the industry. SMH.
Might not even be slightly better, certainly not something for the competition to worry about....
Lots of general statements, but nothing concrete. Typical Canon
Let’s get a bit of a grip on reality here. I don’t care what brand you shoot or have a preference for, everyone get’s gobsmacked by the latest and greatest no matter what it is. It could be a phone, car, camera, computer, etc. Everyone gets so hyped and glad to have the latest, greatest and fastest only to feel like your cutting-edge thingy is looking a little bit old or slow just six months later when the next best thing is dangled in front of us that we feel we just got to have. It never ends. Glad to see all companies pushing tech though because it eventually trickles down to more normal and perfectly capable gear that most people will buy. That competition benefits everyone. So, I wonder what new camera announcement we’ll get that leapfrogs this new shiny thing, maybe even before it becomes widely available. 🤔
"sets new standards" let's wait till the camera is released...
It will have the most advanced subscription paywall in the industry. A tax is a defect, not a feature.
After waiting 4 years for the camera, you'd think Canon could have done a better job of providing specs on the camera in their announcement. I KNOW that Canon just lost a lot of customers with this move. I am one of them.
Думаю,что canon R1 разработали уже давно, но к тому моменту, когда ее собирались выпустить, она уже безнадежно устарела. Пришлось разрабатывать заново. Поэтому и тянут кота за хвост.
Hey
This camera may cost more than
$5,500 per body
"Predictive" anything is scary in the hands of Big Brother.
Canon R1 Features
High-speed autofocus and exposure enhanced by AI recognition
Moving object trajectory prediction, high success rate smart object lock focus tracking
30MP full-frame stacked dual-gain sensor
Purely electronic rolling shutter faster than any mechanical rolling shutter
1/1,250 sec flash sync time (
Another nothing burger. They are "aiming" for a 2024 release. YGBSM Lots of speculation about capabilities based solely on the "flagship" moniker and a plethora of patent applications. That's what we had yesterday. This announcement changed nothing. My guess, they released this development announcement because they are having to further delay anything definitive about the R5 MKII.
They have to perfect their subscription paywall first, before dropping that bomb on you. I'm perplexed at people's excitement to pay for a product they will never own. Remember, it's a tax, and taxes are punishments.
mega pickle
So now we know they're working on the R1 😂😂😂😂😂Why didn't they give us ANY specs at all?????
