my dad is in an shopkeeper... some time I also help my dad by giving him some time for rest and I manage whole shop... I realize that many people.. mostly literate peoples ask for polythene bag even if they buy only an half litre packet milk... some for lays or kurkure... the shit with these people is they only want clean n green India but they don't want to do for our India n for our planet... plz make an video to realise these inactive literate peoples to know there responsibility...

You have pointed out a very different and uncommon view after watching the video .... which I really like. You are right ofcourse about doubting the actual purpose of the video itself but as an Indian .. I think my first priority would be betterment in our own country ... then we can criticize others. If we take a step towards making India safe for women .. no more documentaries can be created. Im not suggesting that BBC or any source of media from the west is right in making the documentary but it also true that it is showing us what we look like and what our people think. Correcting our selves comes first.. then we can question others.

***** I agree with most of what you had to say but I still think the documentary needs to be endorsed not banned! You are right, there is unwarranted generalization of Indians in most western countries...but we usually respond in kind! We even generalize and even threaten people of different religions or appearance, even when they are Indians! So I don't agree that we should judge only the western countries as if we are the victim here! The poverty and backwardness of India as shown on western media is inflated, of course, but it does exist! I would much rather have the government own up to that and improve the situation than ignore it and say, it's just propaganda! Also, you may have overlooked the fact that only 15-20 % (I'm sorry I do not know the accurate stats at the moment) of the Indian population lives in the city where cleanliness and infrastructure is good enough to outshine a western city. The rest of Indian population lives in villages and slums and small towns...where heinous crimes like these not only happen regularly but go almost always unreported!
Secondly, you cited the fact that US and UK have more rapes according to published statistics...I know you rightly read that somewhere, because I did too! However, I couldn't really buy that, because most of my friends who are currently in US or UK claim that they have never felt safer in their own country. So I double checked those facts and even Wikipedia has a disclaimer to this...the numbers represent rape cases reported! It goes further to say that in most developing and underdeveloped countries rape cases are never reported making it harder to estimate! Even other sources say the same thing...bringing me back to believing that we may not be the worst in this case but we are surely not below the number that is worth criticizing! In fact, not even a single rape should go without criticism!
I agree with you that we as a society have only recently come out to the world! In less than 70 years of Independence we have achieved marvels, which makes it foolhardy to compare any of our national issues with countries which have had civil and constitutional liberties for centuries now! But if we lay back and let this pass...we shall wait even longer in the darkness. The hypocrisy of Indian culture and traditions must be brought to light, all of us and the generations before are responsible for the plight of women in India and documentaries like these deserve to be shown, and endorsed and used for awareness!
Lastly, the point of integrity! While you did accept the possibility (I'd say the genuine sincerity) of the filmmaker, you cast a valid doubt on the intentions of BBC! Yes, BBC has been quite eager to show what a mess India is. I bring this issue up last because I think this is the least important of your objections! It should not matter! The documentary is real...the events it depicts are real, the people who dare to go on camera and express such disgusting attitude are real! And they should be criticized! Whether BBC does it or NBC or NDTV, the content of the documentary does not give in to sensationalism at all! Instead, it makes us wonder how we got here! It not only fairly shows the victims side but also the aftermath of the penalty for the culprits! It leaves us wondering what, if anything can fix this problem! Whatever propaganda BBC might perpetrate after this documentary is irrelevant because we need to care about our country, and not be the same stereotype Indian that cares more about what others think. I fully and wholeheartedly think this documentary should be used as an academic discourse on the depravity of rapists and why oppressing women in any way is just as worse as the rapists themselves!
Shivani Chaudhary I agree...the best way to introspect is from the outside! We should not complain about who made or promoted the documentary but reflect upon the harsh reality of it's content! It's shame that this oppressive mentality still presides in most Indian men, and sadly even women! I commented on another of BeingIndian s video asking for the same thing that you did...Indians react to India's Daughter! I hope they do it, but I doubt, due to the severity of the issue and the fact that this is, after all, a comedy channel.

Archit Bagul. I agree with you on this. It might. Not be possible to post a video about it ... but its also true somewhere that it is needed. The video is something every Indian must see. Its a shame that it was banned for Indians . Hiding our bad points and backwardd areas and mistakes will bring us nowhere. It just shouts that the authorities are not intrested in making things right . Its really sad..
