🚀 I’ve tested a few of the other methods and the only additional factor that might increases the chances of an SClass is your standing with the alien species that the pirate freighter is in.
Thanks for this video I jumped into a system as saw this battle and had to Google if I could capture and it was a A class
So I decided to get into grinding to get the S class pirate freighter and got it second try 😂 but it’s a very bad one as in slots for technology and cargo.. still I don’t feel like switching to creative mode to upgrade anything since that kinda kills the grind in my opinion. Will still be going around every possible warp to find a better one someday and then upgrade hopefully.
A question I would have, if I spend any modules to expand my inventory for technology or cargo, that will not be transferred to the next one right? I’m a pretty new player and been studying CZcams for this game for a good few hours a day 😂
@@k3x478 No unfortunately lol. Any cargo bulkheads you use are locked on the freighter that they were used on. They will not be able to be recovered or recycled to the next freighter. It sucks, but this game is all about the grind and exploring the trillions of worlds, ruins, and mysteries of the No Man's sky cosmos. Of course, you can always ask on Reddit to see if anybody's willing to trade you some bull kids. That's how I got a lot of my salvage frigate modules lol. I've traded some nip nip and some runaway mold and I got 30 frigate modules and 25 bulkheads from a nice player

@@texastank I think that the cap is around 500. It could be 400, but I would imagine that it's not insanely high like several thousand or anything. Always make sure that you get your forged passports so that you can go and raid those freighters! Lol jk

【Shades Finnish Pirates】I got the S-Class Pirate Freighter, thank you! I tried multiple times, got A-class first that i was content with if the S-Class would never drod and so i took the A-class flying to another Vy-keen pirate system to drop of a outlaw mission but i was prompted instantly a another pirate freighter fight. Now owning a A-class i felt more secure since had already a passable freighter, but i really am into pirate stuff so i started to farm for that S-class and i farmed over an hour for it. Went to bed, 2nd day was thrown into the fight instantly as i entered the game and reloaded intending to get S-class no matter what. I did the fight again, at the second reload i landed on the S-class pirate freighter and so i got my S class after 2 tries on the 2nd day!
Thank you for this guide! I couldn't get the dreadnought encounter to spawn. It turns out that it was not having my own freighter as well as the settlement quest. As soon as I completed both of those things, the next system I warped to was the dreadnought fight. Thank you so much for the advice!

Hi Rod! I followed a similar pattern; except I destroyed the engines and then went into each shield generator trench and destroyed the generators and the warp cores inside. This caused the surrender dialog to appear. Your way is probably faster, LOL. I jumped between a couple of pirate systems and was lucky enough to get an S class on my 4th attempt. A new record for me!
I never have luck with Freighters, I once spent 16 hours trying to get one. It still hurts! LOL
@@ScottishRod I feel your pain. Many times I'll search for hours to get an S class ship. I feel a bit sheepish that I was fortunate in this case.
I did that too much easier, and when i got to the freightor, I put my setting on none combat, so there was less damage to your ship
@@ScottishRod I guess I was lucky: the first pirate dread I 'captured' when the option became available, was a S-class. I Should have bought a lottery ticket that day.
Whew, fought one for the first time, found it was C-rank, restored and my actual 2nd run gave me an S-rank. Thank you for this guide!
I got my S class pirate freightor on 6 reloads, so I was very quick, and as soon as I started my game, I came across the freightor on my first jump
Hey rod, the way I got mine was by breaking the shield generators, then warp engines and then the war cannons. I rinsed and repeated this step and it took me less than 10 tries and I got my S class

i spent 3 days and hundreds of attempts for my s class capital ship so i was a bit hesitant when trying this. got one on my 2nd attempt lol. great vid as always.

ALL you need is your own freighter. you just need to own one, doesnt matter which it is. and probably 3+ hours of game time total on the savefile.
and that's it. that's how the dreadnaught spawns.
as for combat, you just need to destroy the 5 anti-freight cannon. (or 6). You SHOULD destroy the hyperdrive reactor in the back, though. you doN't have to, but it will prevent them from escaping after destroying the civilian fleet.
Wow was loading this up just as I jumped into a pirate system knowing I’d want to be in one and I got an S class immediately. Thanks for the luck haha

thanks for your video! Got my S-class pirate freighter on the 22nd go round. First one was a B, then 20 C's in a row, then the S. The delight was huge! Now to see what I can do with the base. cheers
Do i NEED to move my stuff from my current freighter to a base or does it work like other freighters where i can just transfer the materials/loot? Because with normal frieghters i can just move my stuff to the new ship and continue with my journey no problem.
You can transfer your loot like other Freighters, if you have tech installed that will have to be moved into storage.
Took my 24 tries but I got it, can confirm this method works :)
Do the Dreadnought Spawn outside of the Expedition on a normal Safe?

I stuck with an A class as couldn't be bothered reloading any more.
1. Trigger this pirate event at 2 systems (3 if you want to increase the chance of spawning an S class)
2. Defeat the pirate dreadnought
3. Check the class. If S class, stop here (A if you're fine with it), else continue
4. Jump to the other system(s) where the pirate event was triggered as well
5. Repeat from step 2.
Loading from restore point kinda takes more time between tries, when you can just jump to the next system after a fight with a low class pirate ship. Systems that you warped in previously where this event was triggered will always activate said event everytime you jump back into them, not sure when coop is active though, so better deactivate coop when you're going for this.
However, this doesn't guarantee an instant S class on the 1st try (You're lucky if it did), it just increases the chance of getting one, by a bit.
I tested that method several times to many things can go wrong and unfortunately does. 😊

I tried for over an hour reloading from safe point, got only C and one B in 30+ attempts. Then i simply stopped reloading and skipped between pirate systems. First encounter, got inside: C-class. Blew it up. Jumped into a neutral System, then a pirate system again. Boom, S-Class. Might be a fluke, but i think subsequent encounters have a higher rate of spawning better dreadnoughts.
I tried that method in the hopes that it would reduce the reloading but it didn’t work consistently but it is a bit less boring. 😊
Got my S-Class, went to color it, and noticed something. When there is no markings color option selected, everything appears normal, but if you select the markings color option, then some of the panels that should be part of the primary color pallet will now link instead to the accents color pallet, and if you switch off the markings color option, then the panels that are supposed to be linked to the primary color pallet won't actually link back to the primary color pallet. This is kinda annoying, because it makes my new capital freighter look all spotted, and sadly I can't get it to change back. I could just color both the accent and primary color pallets to red, but then some of the panels in the areas allocated to accents and secondary pallets will be red instead of the black they should be. What should I do? Rockatoa, Brickticks out!
There is a reset option, did that work? If not it's a bug it might get fixed soon.

i started a new game and played for 3 hours in creative mode then found the S class on the first go.
A Pirate System did not supply mine, I found to often I would get a same Rank Dreadnaught multiple times in a pirate system (over and over, like more then 12 times in a row,) whilst I got different ranked Dreadnaughts in a Strong Economy System (3 Star.) After going back and forth between a Pirate system and 3 Star (strong economy) system, the 3 Star awarded the S rank. Not all pirate Systems would have a Dreadnaught appear, many times there was no ship. I Kept looking for systems where the Dreadnaught would be there each time I entered the system, then kept going back to that system. btw I am on PC.
Do you already own a standard freighter if not, that sometimes acts as a blocker to them appearing.
@@ScottishRod Have had an S-Class freighter from the moment they became available and almost decided against getting a Pirate Dreadnaught for this very reason. Yet what I posted happened, Pirate Systems spawned the same rank of freighter over and over (little variation) while 3-star systems spawned different ranks way more often making it easier to attain an (S-Class) outside of pirate systems.
OMG I just got this encounter and got an S class after 3 tries! 😵 The RNG God's are smiling on me 🎉
i got the s class after about 45 tries, which took 2 days
2 and a half hours for my s class with good slots for the super chagers

Has anyone tested if you can land at space station in the solar system and re check the freighter that way? Or does the freighter despawn when you do that?
It despawns but if you did what I did, you can always go back to that original save and try again later?

You’ll have to get it for each save.

Just landed an S-class dreadnaught. (1 A-class, 20 C-classes) I'm wandering around on it trying to decide if I want to surrender my S-class Venator... decisions....
I’ve got different freighters on different saves so it was an easy decision for me.
If you’re building a base with outside areas to take advantage of the views, I think it’s worth it. 😊

Got s class after 2 hours, 4 supercharged slots
I ended up getting an S class Korvax piloted pirate freighter after about an hour and a half, but I was disappointed that the interior reverts to the regular freighter interior instead of staying as the wicked pirate interior... It's too bad really. 😮💨
That’s a bug it will remain red when it’s fixed, reloading fixes it sometimes,

I fumbled around for a half hour failing to beat the freighter in time. Doing it mostly wrong, an S class was the 2nd freighter I defeated
RNG has been kind to you, I usually have to spend a good few hours trying to get an S-Class Freighter! 😊
I’ve got a question for the community. I got a Pirate Dreadnaught and when I first stepped into the command area it had this awesome red lighting and had some cool other unique things. Once I reloaded it went back to how the normal freighter are. Is this happening for other people?
try exiting the game and reloading again. I had the same issue, but the bridge and hangar bay are pirate red again.
It remained red for me, it's probably a lighting glitch. Freighters do suffer from lighting issues from time to time. :-)
Quick question, are the pirate freighter armaments functional Against enemy npc ships? like anti ship turrets and anti freighter turrets

If you don't want to reload your save you can also warp one system over and then warp back and it will reset the battle
But at the point wouldn't the class have been set?
@@McGarveytonNo. Its RNG. Some gets S on the first class, others in 10 runs or less. But majority gets it after 20 and above tries, so some just settle with A class ones.
@@abelingaw5070 no I was referring to exiting the system and going back vs reloading the save to get the dice roll again.
@@McGarveyton It's the same, the dreadnought class will always be random. Using a save point gives you lower chance of getting a better one.
On the other hand, jumping between 2 or 3 systems and doing the same thing gives a better chance, and takes lesser time than reloading a save.

They should add freighter class upgrades and X class as a tier past S.
If i transfer my base to a pirate freighter will my cargo bulkheads and thier content transfer over too?
No you’ll have to redo that and if you’ve installed any of the mods remember to transfer them to your cargo. The storage container you build will be safe.
PC version numerous reloads gave C, B and the odd A Switch version seems broken, 4 hours and all Cs so far not a single other letter.
I hate the RNG element, I'm having the same issue on another save.
I warped like 30 Times and haven't found 1 single Dreadnought yet.

Dreadnought would be mx first freighter bcs i started a new save bcs old one was deleted
They spawn outside of Expeditions, but you'll need to pick up a normal freighter first as the game prioritises them and reduces the chances of a Pirate one from spawning. :-)

@@sweeti-wf7jv yes normal Freighters spawn in Pirate systems, especially if you haven't claimed a normal one. After that it becomes rare, if at all, for normal once to spawn in Pirate systems.
Is it better than the normal freighters?
Stats wise, there's no difference, I've not experienced a battle to see if those guns activate if they do it will be worth it.
Either way I'm only getting it on one save. :-)
It took me 28 runs (S:1, A:1, B:1, C:24, escaped:1), alien rep 8/9
Took me 42 attempts.. all Cs until I got an S.

No. This is just part of the Omega update.

It's RNG not you, I've got several saves and one of my old ones it took 18 hours.
To be honest pick one up, you can transfer your base later and try from time to time to get the S-Class but don't grind too much.

It's one of those exceptions, I believe the restore point triggers if you go up to the bridge. :-)

Only if you are trying to get the Permadeath achievement, other than that no. 😊

@@ScottishRod had the update this morning for the Xbox like I mentioned in my previous reply. Played the game this afternoon and then went out for a couple of hours. Got home turned the series X console on and the game is updating a second time with a 5.90 GB update.
Ive tried 30 different spawns and have only seen C class. That shouldnt be normal right?
Update: I switched difficulty from custom to normal and the very next dreadnought was an S class d^_^
I knew creative prevented the battle, I should test that difficulty setting.
@@ScottishRod it won't prevent the battle, but I was only getting C class freighters after hours of farming. That's never happened to me before. I think it was because of custom difficulty
@@arturius9715 That's what I'm thinking, if I play with the custom system and up the difficulty to max I can see if it increases the S-Class spawn.
But that means I'll be doing a lot of reloads to make sure RNG is not working in my favour. 🙂

You'll need to claim the normal one first, the game is prioritising that over the pirate one.

Can you do all the steps in creative?
The battle won't happen in creative but you can do all the upgrading in creative.

If your on a Xbox the update has been delayed it should be out today, Reload your original save and hold off until it drops. :-)

Yes it’s that old method but not as brutal an RNG.
@@ScottishRod Maybe I'll try for it on my main save. On the expedition save, I don't see much reason to. Granted, once everyone starts flying around in these things, they'll stop feeling special.
Two hours straight and I’ve had two A class ships. Tempted to just take the next. 💩
Pick up the A-Class you can always try again later or let it happen randomly in the future?! :-)
Found s class but it won’t let me upgrade slots
You’ll have to hunt down upgrades, a guide is linked in the description or switch to creative in the difficulty settings, upgrade and switch back

I think my luck has left me. Reloaded 31 times so far and have seen nothing but c class and 1 b class at the beginning…
Update: After 53 tries. 51 C-class/ 1 B-class/ 1 S-class.
I’ve been there, it took me 16 hours to get a S-class but that was before Pirate system.
If you get an A class stop there and try at a future date. It is the worst grind in the game.

The only difference is the supercharge slots and they’re not that important on a Freighter. 😊
@@ScottishRod true true. I got 2 orbital bases in systems right next to each other and one of them is a pirate system so it’s quick and easy to come back to.
I’m now on my 44th try and still only seen one b class and the 43 c class. I’ve done freighter hunting before and never got this abysmal of results before. It’s so bad it feels like my games bugged haha 🤦🏻♂️

I’ve not had to shoot out the shields in the trenches the 20 odd times I did it so I don’t think they matter.

Can you see the damage bar? If not you should be able to enter or you can continue shooting it but it might explode.
If you’ve got the restore point like I did in the video that might be an option ?
@@ScottishRod I just installed the game yesterday again so it should be the latest, and ye, the damage bar stays up even after all it’s weapons are destroyed, and I’ve been using a restore point, it’s how I’ve been doing different things to try and make it surrender, but it’s bein stubborn
@@donofjars the new update was released today you may not have it yet.
Before you choose the save to load the patch notes button is at bottom left it should be called ‘omega’ when you click on it.
Or it’s glitched and you’ll need to restart.
I've destroyed at least 100. Never seen anything but C class. I'm done. Screw this game, screw hello games.

Don't stop, rather use a mod just to get the freighter. Don't throw joy in the trash just because rngesus is not with you. It's in your hand...
I don't think S class is such a big deal. You can enjoy the look of a C class too. It may have less storage etc but it is the storage modules you build that makes up for it. I got a C class, looks badass.
Wait, so your solution to get free upgrades is literally just to cheat them in through creative mode? Lame.
