The hole in the floor scares me ….my mind goes to someone falling down in the middle of the night. Is there a plan for that?

The loft does look beautiful. I would be putting a railing on at least 2 sides of the hole in the floor. Sleepy jaunts to the washroom would be dangerous without it.
That hole needs something for safety immediately.

Rails around the stairs opening, one side swings open so whoever can close it at night! Love watching your videos!!!

Looks great! You should put some kind of safety railing around the entrance to keep anyone from accidentally stepping off.

I love how the railing turned out, and the flooring looks great too. I've always tried to use what I had on hand first, like you did with the railing project. When you can make it work, it is a great boost to know you saved material that may have been discarded, plus it sure does help the budget!
Like others mentioned, I'm hoping there's a plan for something around the hatch for safety as well. Looking forward to the road trip episodes and seeing both of you up at your homestead! Take care! Enjoy your summer!

We have vinyl flooring industrial strength put down and it was snapped together. They did not level the floor right with leveling agent and had to come back and redo part of it after the contract was up now it came up again after the warranty so just make sure your floor is level or it will not work very well.

Make a removable scrap spacer piece to keep the distance the same at the bottom. Always sand your boards before you put them up. It's a lot easier

Agree with others on thst stairs hole in tbe floor. You need to put up spindles around that hole, before so.eone who stays up there forgets and falls through it. Id just match up that railing you just installed, identical to it, around tbe three sides there as a safety measure leaving the entrance open, where the ladder is. Should be sufficient. Don't leave that hole like that, a person could get killed or become paralyzed falling down that hole. Risk factor verses safety, safety wins every time. The railing looks nice, as does the flooring and furnishings and decor. Best wishes.

Like others are saying a small railing around the hole would be good for safety.
id make a door to cover at night someone can fall through sleepwalking the railings an awsome idea

Gotta admit the hole in the floor and the open wall was a little scary to see. The railing looks good and safe. Hope you're also going to add one around the hole in the floor. I can see someone in the middle of the night finding the fast way down stairs 😂

I have a soft close hatch door for my loft space.
Looks great, but the hole needs railings around it and a gate so no one falls.

Oh my word! That loft is so stinkin cute. Great job on the railing, it's so nice! The decor looks perfect in there too. Can't wait to see what's next. So exciting. My almost 14 yr. Old son makes his own music too, very similar to your son. He has a synthesizer and everything lol. Sounds really good!

I'm just curious, because of lighting, and I LOVE lighting, did you consider cable "railing" or "glass panel" railing? I would have then made curtains or blinds for "privacy" for the space. Just my opinion. You have to do what works best for you of course! 😊
And could beds have fit on the raised platform part? Or are you making that into storage?

Thanks for the comment! We were going to just put sheet rock and enclose the area but loved the idea of more light and openness. The pickets were the obvious choice because we already had the materials and we loved the way it looked with the ceiling. A blanket over the railings will give temporary privacy if needed up there. 😀

It looks lovely but you need to make the loft entrance bigger so it can have a loft hatch so there are no unwelcome accidents. From UK X

Hello, you are getting there! What are you doing on the other side of the loft? When you were outside cutting the wood you didn’t have to have the music going.
I can’t be the only one who wonders about what the platform is? Are the ceilings higher below? & are those doors leading out to a lil balcony or are they bug windows?
I’m just really curious hahaha but it’s looking fantastic!
The platform covers a big steel support beam. It seems much bigger than it needs to be but we haven't ripped into to find out why. The doors on either end just open to the roof. Very odd and eventually we will probably replace them with windows.

There's power about 1/2 mile down the road and the cost is $80,000 to connect
Wouldn't it have been easier to cut the wood and then paint or stain in before installing it? It is difficult to paint/stain on the loft level.
But I really like that you recycled wood that was in the shop. Ingenious and the whole Loft Project looks great you two!
Lovely but I would get rid of the rugs.
Well lucky for them you wont ever be asked to visit.
@@AussieTracy I didn't mean I disapproved of the rugs, only that rugs are extra maintenance (vacuuming) so I advocate for people to think about perhaps not having them.

Worried that you are only putting railings in to the lower floor. Whoever is on the loft and below deserves privacy.
Oh lord there's always a negative Nancy around.... I am sure whomever will stay up there wont be doing anything that needs privacy. They have bathroom where guests can change into pj's so no big deal. It's a place to sleep not a luxury hotel they are renting out to the general public 🤦♀
