I agree with this. It's as if you're truly creative. No one sees your work. You have to upload reels and replicate trends. It's very sad for people who want a creative outlet.

I am not a TikTok watcher. I had an instant dislike to it when I first went over there, but I do agree that many of us waste time aimlessly watching reels on IG. I used to blog a lot. I even had some freelance job for blog networks, so I also miss those days. I do like making CZcams videos, and most of my videos are around 10 to 15 minutes long. A few are longer. I don't have a huge channel, so I don't really have a lot of pressure to worry about losing views LOL. I make a video as long as it needs to be to communicate what I want to talk about.

As a person with severe adhd there is a part of me that actually enjoys how fast paced everything is nowadays, I can consume a lot more content much quicker. Then a video like this shows up, with a much slower and deliberate pace, and makes me realize how tired and burned out I am from it all. How videos like this one now feel like I’m mentally “resting” and taking a breath to really absorb what I’m watching. Anyway thanks for the video, sorry for the huge text. 😅

The worst thing about TikTok is you can't even avoid it. People just use TikTok all the time around you with speaks playing out loud.

This was a great think piece. I’ve often wondered why when I first got on TikTok I felt so inspired and creative and pursued my projects with passion. Then after a couple years of constant short form content I feel more burnt out with much lower attention span. There are pros and cons to social media but it’s important to find a healthy balance and use with intent as you said. Super important!

I agree with pretty much everything you said. As a creative who has no audience and no other than social media "it's insane we have to grab people's attention in 10 seconds" made me die a little lol. I WISH people would give me 10 seconds. According to tiktok 90% or more of my 300 views watches my video for less than 2 seconds. I normally I've lost over half my audience in the first 0.5 seconds of a video. It is extremely depressing when you feel you are supposed to be creating but you can't get anyone to see your work bc social media feels like the be all and end all.
As a painter, singer, editor, etc its a little soul crushing. Especially with film art, there really isn't anywhere people consume small artists work.

I absolutely agree with everything you said. I am only online for the dolls and art content. I am so sick of seeing adverts for irrelevant stuff that’s designed to make me feel bad about myself. I absolutely love long videos, forums and old blogs. I am not a fan of the trends or fast paced short content, the algorithm pleasing tactics, it feels so draining. I miss the old internet of my childhood where you would see no ads, post and wait for others to join. I stick around for the doll content and I try to curate my feeds to be full of artists and dolls but social media platforms are always serving MEANINGLESS content to me. It’s a sad fact that a large proportion of the general population loves meaningless dumb videos and don’t appreciate true art (ai art is not real art). Instagram is literally one third ads, every third post is an ad for something dumb and I hate it lol but I want to see dolls so what can I do?. 😂

Thank you so much for talking about this topic, I feel just exactly like you, and I know I can't do anything to change this situation, but you know what? It’s impossible for people to keep living like this, people is getting sick and sick with this kind of life, and when they get so sick both physically and mentally they won’t be able to function, they'll realize that the kind of life they've been living (fast consumption, without any second to stop and live slower) is getting them sick they will stop, and in time everyone else will stop too, so don't worry, live as you (and me) know is correct, thankfully we do realize these issues, so we can live a much healthier life with meaning and purpose, and trust me I was living as the rest of the people until I got really sick that I almost died. It took me 8 years and a lot of introspection to understand why I was so sick and changed it to finally start to get better, now i'm studying different kind of arts, and like you, I get frustrated that social media isn't supporting artists, instead they support as you said stupid content, gossip, trends etc, but when I was literally dying, I didn't know how but I was sure that I would get cured even when everything in my reality was telling me that I wouldn't. It’s the same way now, even when everything about the kind of art that I like tells me that is not profitable, because social media, trends, big companies, etc. selling for cents things they manufacture, I trust with the same faith (in God and me) that I will make it, and you will too.
    Blessings from Mexico ❤🙂

I tend to find everything almost too inspiring, I find someone's work and then I want to try out the medium they're using too! I'm really bad at completing projects in the first place (I'm trying so hard to be better at finishing what I set out to make), and I find that so much short form content encourages me to keep starting new projects and trying new mediums, and not really finding a creative niche to spend time on to really improve and learn to understand.
Of course having a feed and not a custom type page is more the side of the internet I've grown up with, and I do think it would be cool if things could shift to being a bit more personal again. I also feel like when you're scrolling through short form content, it's harder to make a personal connection with people who share your interests. If you're spending time on someone's page, or blog, you can reach out to them if you have questions, or you get to know where they started at in their creative process. Social media now days puts up almost a barrier, like the creators you see, you can't engage with or talk to. It feels harder to form a community, at least for me.

it doesn't kill my creativity, but it surely damages my emotional state/mental state, motivation, self esteem. and takes away my attention. social media demands attention, wants it. it's a pain. instagram used to be sustainable, used to be pictures. now it's tiktok lite. very disappointing. i feel like the only one holding on is tumblr, and even it has changed.

My favorite type of content is long form. I know if a video is less than a half hour is not going to go as indepth on the subject as I would like. And this is coming from someone diagnosed with ADD lol

Hello Anri, this is an important message…I agree also that you have to slow down to realise what you see or doing. I’m in a age that have more analog content and creativity in my live than digital or social media content. For me it was a challenge to be in this digital world. Because of that, I’m only in a few sections in this new world. …Like your blog and your artwork and I like when someone give things the time they needed. I’m a great fan of your work❤
