Renault scenic 1,6 2000 mod. manual gear. Now driven 208 000 km in Norwegian climate with tough winters. I am so fond of the car. I have had it since new and the first thing I did was treating it with Tectyl against rust. Rust is not an issue on these models, a mechanic said. Clutch is still the original, but I am also using it "with brain". Part of exhaust system replaced which is normal. Replaced heater fan once and dynamo. Window glass front hoist system I replaced recently. No other big issues that I remember. I am changing oil by around 8000 km and that is really paying of: the engine is mint. Typically french, the comfort is top and children love it because they have such a wide view from the back seat. Back seats can be taken out and the trunk becomes really big.
A short while I had a 2004 model also. A mere disaster. You can read about their issues other places. That was the model that left the 1999-2003 style and it became more "electronic". Even the instrument panel breakes down!. Besides it is almost impossible to get access to the engine because of the small hood. No, my model was winning "The car of the Year" in Europe when it appeared on the market, and I am one of the ones that say it is well deserved. PS. I repair much by my own. I do not look foreward to a newer car that is full of electronic solutions!

I had a Renaukt Scenic II 1.6 2007 model. We had endless problems with Dephaser pulley replacements. Rought idling problem because of camshaft / solenoid failure. Fuel pump replacement. Damper pulley replaced. Aircontoller switch that burned. The last issue we had before selling it was a battery charged light that came on, we fitted a new alternator but still battery wasn't charging, Auto electricians could not find the fault, in the end when you start the car and rev I twice the battery charged but the battery light still came on. Not to speak about two set of key cards I had to replace. We had the car from 2011- 2023.Despite all the problems the car was a nice drive an travel many gravel roads.

I have had 4 Scenics so far for about 1,000,000 km... I had a 1999 Scenic 1, 1.6l manual, that did 302,000Km (over 200,000 on LPG) until the first valve job and 230,000km with the original clutch, sold it after the valve job and saw it going around town for another two years after that. I have a 2004 2.0l gas 4-speed automatic. Just gave up on it at 355,000km including over 200,000 on LPG, despite the fact it still works (original engine, 4 speed transmission, shock absorbers). The upper engine makes a lot of noise and it does not pass emission test anymore, upper engine overall not economical (due to the fact that I bought another one with half the mileage (190,000km) for less than the cost of taking care of the engine, it is now our personal junkyard/source of parts. Problems were LCD gauges, electronic car keys contacts dying every four or five years, engine silent blocks every 100,000 km or so, wheel bearings (once), front triangles (twice), steering play (once), gear pressure valve (at 300,000km) all in all not unexpected problems for a car that goes 350,000km. We now run two more Scenic II 1.6l gasoline, 4 speed automatic, one 2009 has 170,000km the other 2008 200,000km (both cost about EU2,000-EU3,000 a piece some time back), will probably run them at least 100,000km more each. Yes, reliability is not that of a Toyota or Honda, and you need maintenance but when I pay less than EU3,000 for an 8-year-old car with one previous owner and 110,000Km and drive it for 200,000km more I am not complaining...

      @julmeissonnier Před rokem +1

@@ruben9967 It works and does not break down until 200,000 to 300,000km (much more reliable than the Nissan CVT used in the Kashkai and 3rd generation Scenic). But in term of driving enjoyment 4 gear still leaves pretty big gaps between gears compared to modern transmissions....

03,1.6 16V Automatic, with 150.000km. Ignitioncoils changed at 132.000, together with the ball joints, no troubles at all.
No rust, no electrical issues, nothing. Only thing, it is not very economical: averange consumption is 8.4 liters/100km.

    2005 2.0 lpg automatic 253k
Neglected car i got for 1700 euro in 2022.
The car is beaten and maintenance was neglected since 150k. Really lotsa things to complain about, but it still runs on original engine and transmission. Worst trouble is the wiring to the ECU - some wires were broken, isolation gone due to vibration and chaffing. Rubberised plastic is dissolving on the dash. Gear selector broke. Parking break and emissions warnings. Windshield started leaking. Water in footwell. Possibly right half axle is getting loose. Anyway, being banged up and quite neglected - i'm still surprised it runs well with ~10/100km, shifts fine and i even can go overtake someone on a mountain road. Really wish i got it new and just took care of it.

I had one , 2004. Very reliable but only problem the bloody squicky ventilation sound after 60.000 km. After 120.000 km got a little vibrations... front barrel wheel. But besides this nothing bad. I sold the car to my neighbour with 180.000 km for £ 250 and still is running after 4 years He changed all 4 suspension and the water pump. But still is running with 240.000 km.
Im not a french car fan, but i think Scenic is one the best french car ever made until today

Use to have a 2005 scenic II. The 2 lt auto.
    Cluster failed like at
    90 000km.
Fan fin heater motor had to be replaced at +/- 94 000.
At 97 000 kms front wheels lower control arms tierod ends/bearings/bushings for the front shocks/engine and gearbox mounting had to be replaced.
From 115 000km on clock the camshaft dephaser pulley's pin became faulty.
Use to get then very bad fuel consumption.20 litres of fuel gave me a driving range of 110 kms.
    Sometimes had a starting issue.
The roof lining at the back in the car staryed peeling off.
I had the panaramic roof and it started to squeek at times.
The wipers would suddenly just stop to operate.
The car was always serviced and maintained.
From 90 000 km all troubles started until I sold it I think with 127 000 km on the clock and that is actually not much for a car.

hi... i bought my 2005 manual Renault Scenic II, 1.4 Petrol 98HP, with 140.000kms for only 3.500€ and now I'm near 240.000km... ENGINE no problems --- MECHANICAL problems was the front wheel swing arm bearing / bushing replacement 120€ in 2023 + changing the back wheels braking system rotors and discs for 200€ in 2019 --- ELECTRONIC problem with the dash panel board, dying on me (no more rpm, speed, clock, petrol gauge infos) and messing up my engine startup and switching everything off, replaced for 250€ in 2010 --- my car REMAINING problems: the windows & doors rubbers under summer heat + the sticky steering wheel leather, breaking off when humid + the roof & doors esthetic cloth, pealing off + the interior plastics from door handles breaking up + the exterior roof paint, peeling off --- the most expensive and BIGGEST REPAIR i had in 2020, was my local mechanic repairing my gearbox for 1.600€ after i cracked it, while abusing the 5th gear RPM so i got it back as "Refurbished" and it still runs, pass its 2 years Warranty (i chose this option instead of paying for a brand new gearbox from Renault at 3.800€) --- here are my Yearly expenses: 70€ of circulation tax + 40€ car inspection + 120€ pair of tires --- in 2025 i will swap the original suspension.

Renault Scenic 2, 1.9 Dci, I was scammed on buying it. This car has no working space in the engine compartment. Very nice car to drive when there are no problem. In South Africa the parts are very expensive. If you have break down, electronic hand brake kicks in, this can be very dangerous on mountain pass downhills as one must step outside to the rear luggage boot to manually override the hand brake system. Even after manual override the minute you press the ignition on hand brake activates automatically. This is a horrible car to give to a wife of kids or anyone who knows little about car. Even if the brushes in the alternator fail, dam you are in big dudu, I sometimes asked myself if the designer of this car is still working at Renault, otherwise I would have fired him. This car is 120% not user friendly, An ordinary brake down on the Road would mostly require towing it back. Dam, if you want to do cambelt change, its horrible. Even bolts require special star head spanners all for no real reason, but rather to make the car difficult to work with intentionally.
