I fixed my leaky roof with paintable rubber

We've been getting hammered with thunderstorms dropping the heaviest rain I've seen in NH in a long time. With that heavy rain, comes water in my basement through a crack or something at the chimney where it meets the roof. Watch as I repair the area around the chimney and roof to eliminate the leaks.

Still no leaks! Everything that got wet prior to this fix is still dry as a bone from after the fix. Definitely do it!

I did the work on August 5, 2023 and here we are October 4, 2023 and my basement is showing no signs of leaks from the chimney. I consider this job fixed! I do plan to go back up there for another coating to ensure it’s solid for the winter but I am pleased with this result. Thanks for checking in!

WHAT IS THE WHITE STUFF?

It’s a cloth tape with an adhesive backing. You apply this to cracks and seems and paint over it with the paintable rubber to make a leakproof seal. Without the tape, there’s nothing to assist bridging the gap of the rubber.
