Ben, Thank you for a great review! I use my One R mostly with the Leica 1 inch sensor because of the video quality. Happy that now I can stick up two 1 inch sensors on One R for 360 videos instead of the original 360 mod!

It looks great Ben, you can really see the difference in quality, on a larger computer screen. But I'm sticking with the One X2 for now, I only use 360 for social media posts, and the pictures and video coming out of the One X2 still look good on smartphone screens. Ben, you nailed this review and your video is the only one at the moment that can convince people to buy this camera. With your video I can really see the difference between this new lens and the X2, and the bump in quality. Now I am interested in this lens, so thank you!
Honestly I have been extremely disappointed in other tech youtubers on that one, such as Potato Jet or Matti Haapoja. You can tell they are not into small cameras at all, and in their review they were barely trying. They used super average 360 shots supposed to prove the amazing quality, and almost no color grading, therefore convincing nobody. If I was Insta360 I would be pissed at them for the poor review. They keep mentioning the old features such as "you can edit on your phone, amazing", or explaining the magic of the invisible selfie stick. Your review has concrete face to face comparisons with other cameras and clearly with all the years of reviewing 360 cameras, you know what you're doing and how to compare cameras.
Appreciate it! Yeah a lot of them are sponsored for their videos so they have to over-hype basic features every time. Glad you can see through it though 😁

It looks totally awesome, of course, I just brought the X2 in the last sale, so I should have guessed they had to release a new one two weeks later.... not that I'm unhappy with the X2 still seems to be the more portable one and it is a good way to get started out and learning the ins and outs, also it's half it's the price of this one.

YAy the one I've been waiting for, I'll buy it for sure ! I started with the Samsung Gear 360, then got a the first Insta One X and a Xphase. The video's quality of the previous cameras was not good enough for high end releases, there was a quality gap when compositing 360 footage and adding some motion graphics in After Effects. Looking forward to shoot in low light too !

killer comparison review!! i like this new camera a lot especially coming from the ONE X2. still i feel like the shots are a bit over sharpened out of camera. do you get that impression? i hope that setting can be dialed back a bit. otherwise nice upgrade.

I will add it to my wish list but all in all I prefer the one x2 because it is lighter and you can swap batteries and SD easier probably faster and less wear and tear on the unit. also this needs more accessories. Thanks for the review :)

A quick question though. One R 360 in vertical configuration is very flimsy and required the reinforcement in a form of Ulanzi or whatever case. How about this 1-inch 360 variant? How reliable that factory casing is?

Thanks for the review Ben. I was really excited to see this one but I don’t think it’s enough of an upgrade to get rid of my Z1 to buy this. If I didn’t already have the Z1, I would probably choose this because of the price. But it’s certainly not going to replace my Z1 unless it breaks. It still feels like we are hitting a wall of minor upgrades to me. Though I am probably biased using the Z1 for two years.

I was going to buy the One X2 but read somewhere that X3 may be coming out later this year. Would you recommend I wait for the X3? This one looks great but not waterproof. I’ll be mainly using it for paddle boarding. Just can’t decide which model.

Nice review again Ben 👍. if you don’t mind, I have a question about charging battery. How many way of charging? Can you charge only battery by itself using a cable or do you have to charge through RS core which mean you must connect RS core and battery first then connect cable to RS core to charge? Because I don’t like the RS core heated unnecessarily while charging.

Money is not the issue. Picture quality is visibly better on the 1-Inch, but still pretty good on the X3. The X3 seems more robust to me, I like the screen, battery live is probably much longer...
Think I´m gonna order both and send one back after comparing.
Never been a fan of the R series. I know it's unlikely but I'm still hoping for a OneX3

The big advantage of R serie is when we broke the lenses (as many users do) we can replace its easily.

Real life battery life for long continous recording with different resolutions?
My original ONEX managed about 60min… but lately for some reason it shuts down after like 10-20min. My ONEX2 managed over an hour👍🏻
Is the closest focus distance as bad as the 1” Wide Angle mod? (Any action closer to the lens is not in focus).
The battery for this new rig is TINY. This is the biggest problem with this setup. It basically has the smallest battery of all the prior 360 cameras made. Its a smaller battery than the normal One R red battery. You would have to rig up a battery connected to the bottom that thing WITHOUT the little weird case thing on it. They now need to release a better battery module for the vertical setup, like maybe a longer one, then they need a different case thing for all that.... its just this weird road they are going down with this being modular. I will probably get 2 batteries and swap them out and when one is not in use, its getting charged, but this is not doable for many situations where I cannot swap mid shot. Most of what I do is busy action and I do not want to say, ok everyone, stop for like 5 minutes while I swap batteries ok, uuuuuummmmm no, that really doesnt work. I need a big battery and this does not do that. So, its 2 steps forward 1 back, its forward alright, but my god, its not solid progress. I mean, I bought it, cant wait, but I just know I will suffer. Come on gopro, show them all how its done - you used to be a leader.
People still never touch on the overheating and shutdown issues. They just get ignored in the comments. I get so annoyed with the oneR only being able to do short videos before overheating and losing the last stored video. They never mention this being an issue before you drop your money down on it. That being said it seems to have improved with the latest firmware, or maybe the weather is just cooler 😂

Hope for an one x3 with better image quality and changeable lenses(protectors) in the future.

I’d like to record theatre performances in the evening where the scene is lit with lamps and the audience is sitting in the dark. Can you set the exposure separately on the front vs back camera?
You can’t unfortunately. But you can find the average exposure that captures everything, then colour grade the highlights and shadows from there

I fly my ONE X2 on my fpv drones.. I was hoping for higher resolution in a smaller lighter form factor but I’m still considering this because when I zoom in with my one x2 it gets grainy.. maybe this would be less grainy

Great video! I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on the extent to which the upgrades in this edition mean it can shoot footage which would have required other lenses for the ONE RS (4k boost and 1 inch wide angle lenses).

Would you say it would be worth it as a first 360 cam? Looking to get setup for motovlogging, and would love to have a 360 that I can use for secondary shots and the like. I had been looking at picking up the One RS dual kit with the 360 and 4k lenses, then adding a second core and case, plus a few extra batteries for about a grand. This would bump that cost up a bit, but would mean I could use a hero10 for the helmet cam, which seems like it is just a tad bit better at being a standard action cam.
Wonder if this version gives relatively experiential similar results (compared to the pro versions) for VR headsets once image has been cropped into for the medium?

If the X3 will be a 1" X2 with the same specs as this one, I'll be a happy customer. I like the better form factor and gladly pass on modularity.
Aside from that...the slight improvement in resolution from 5.7k to 6k is what we all expected from X to X2...still, I can live with it on a hypothetical X3 as well.

I don't know if you've tried the Planix from Planitar. It uses the Ricoh Theta Z1, but it doesn't use any of the software, only the cameras sensor. the images are insane. So so good. You screw the Theta Z1 to the top of the Planix (which also has a laser mapping system) and plug in a USB C to the bottom as well. The images are so much better than just the Theta Z1 alone. They look almost twice as good.

I am disappointed that this camera has No GPS. Therefore it is of no use for meterverse, or Google Street view integrations.
