      I'm about the same.... I started with Illustrator in 1996 or so.... long time user but I couldn't do the subscription model.... not with my freelance (at the time) being so up and down. I probably can do it now but I've been using Affinity for a while and don't really need Illustrator.

    Thank you for this. I learned Photoshop & Illustrator in high school & at university, so I keep getting tripped up in Affinity because there are some things that transfer seamlessly, and then there are some things that I'm having to work really hard at figuring out because they're just that little bit different than the other suite.
    All in all, I really like the Affinity suite, though.
    ETA: I still haven't figured out how to do a magic wand or lasso select.

      @@DetourShirts I am a secretary with years of experience using Word for everything, Excel just in some cases and Power Point years ago for presentations. First time using Affinity. I like to learn new things. Trying to work some packaging for my soaps and your videos have been very helpful. I still feel lost because I never worked with a graphic designer program before. I'm on video 2 of your beginner series. Will be watching video 3 today, hopefully. Starting to kind of understand some of the tools. I already worked the information that goes on the front, one of the sides and the back of the packaging. I don't know if I did it right. I used shapes (specifically rectangles) to do the text. It looks like it's working out. Now I just need to decorate the front rectangle. I probably will use some brush strokes 🖌️. Not sure how I will do that. Hope I can make it happen.

    Hi Juna - I am on Merch-By-Amazon from almost the very beginning. I shot past tier 10 and tier 25, but I got stuck badly on tier 100.
    I got so disillusioned with - NO SALES - that I packed it up.
    I think I have about 45 sales total. I haven't looked at it in 3 years.
    I have been following you for a while and I learned a whole pile. So much so that I am going to have another go at it.
    On your own website all your thumbnails are square. Why is that as you recommend MBA dimensions 4500x5400px.
    I love the way you display them with different backgrounds.
    Thanks Juna - You’ve been an inspiration.

    Awesome tutorial, Now understanding I can have all my artboard templates on one page & How is a huge game-changer for my daily workload! Templates are such a key part of the preparation to be able to upload smoothly to the multiple POD platforms I use. With the break down of the pen, pencil & brush tools with the nodes to adjust etc, I can't wait to have a play and get acquainted with them and to be able to create better designs with this knowledge. The Artboards ALL on the same page setup is by far my favourite thing right now, it's going to save me soooo much time!!!

    Juna, thank you, I love your videos, they are really helpful. I JUST bought Affinity Designer and had previously bought Affinity Publisher (for KDP stuff). However, previously I bought a subscription for Adobe Illustrator CC (ugh!) which I was getting used to but wasn't loving the cost. So, I am going from AI to Affinity Designer. To me it is a smidge easier than AI. However, I was just doing a simple text design as a test and did the right document set up, and went to upload it to MBA and I got the dreaded "Please upload a valid PNG file" (or something like that). I am exporting as a PNG, but not sure what else I might be missing. I am using a PC and in AI, I couldn't use pixels it was too massive, but when I switched to inches, I think 14x16 or 15x18 (cannot recall), everything was fine and my designs uploaded great. So...any ideas why neither pixels or inches are not working? Am using 300 DPI and using artboard when I export. Thank you and you truly are an exceptional teacher! (sorry for the long comment!) 😉💖

    • @DetourShirts
      @DetourShirts  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes... Sometimes, for some reason Affinity Designer adds an extra pixel when saving. Just double check the size when you are saving. You may see something like 5401x4501.... just that one pixel will through it off and Merch will not accept it. Hope that helps.

    • @3PairDesigns
      @3PairDesigns Před 3 lety +1

      @@DetourShirts I think I figured it out! When exporting I noticed the dimensions were slightly off, like you mentioned. So ONLY while on the Export screen, I clicked the little padlock between the dimensions and unlocked it. Then I corrected the dims, made sure the padlock stayed unlocked, and Exported. Voila! It worked! It is almost as if it is not using the artboard even though I am telling it to. Like in AI when you Export a file you need to click that little box that says "use artboards". I know Affinity Designer has an equivalent and I must be missing it. Anyway, thank you so much for your time and energy, I am looking forward to more Affinity Designer videos! 👍💖

    Hey, Juna! First off--thanks so much for doing this series. I think I mentioned in another video that I have the Affinity Suite (Photo, Designer, Publisher). And I just always default to using Photo because that's what I'm most familiar with, whereas with Designer I just kind of fumble around. But I think with Designer, I can use artboards kind of like you do in Canva but still manipulate fonts fully (one of the drawbacks to Canva). So I'm going to get off my butt and learn this. [rolls up sleeves] Anyway, I can tell by watching your other videos that (a) you know your stuff, and (b) I really like your teaching style, so I'm ready to dive in. Thank you again!
    PS: Just upgraded to Designer 2.0. We'll see how that goes. You probably got an email about it, but it's $99 right now for a universal license for all three apps.

    Thank you for the video..... graphic design is not what I wanted to do, but kinda of forced into it to do my pageant tshirts since we do everything pro-Bono. However, due ToT he price and your videos, I’m jumping in! Super scared and my design on my practice board with this tutorial looks like an infants drawing... but hey we all have to start somewhere 😉😉😉
    Looking forward to your next videos! 😬😬😬🙏🙏🙏
    Thank you for exposing the tools, other videos jump into it and well there goes what we could’ve learned. 🤦🏻‍♀️

    Just found your channel! Thanks for the A.D. tutorials! I bought this over a year ago but was overwhelmed learning it. I had considered getting a subscription to AI since there were so many videos and tutorials. Glad I kept searching til I found you. I want to make patterns that I know will be bigger than one sheet of paper if printed. Do you have content on that and how an art board factors in? I’ll keep watching! Thanks!!!

    I am having trouble trying to work the pen tool in PaintShop Pro. This one looks hell easier. I’m going to get Affinity tomorrow. I hope it works with the Wacom.

    Thank you so much for your videos. I’ve watched all three of your ‘begginer’ tutorials and think they’re great. I’m having a problem with my Affinity Designer app that I hope you can help figure out. The options at the top of the screen to select from File, Edit, Text, Layers, View, Window, and Help as well as the line beneath them for ‘context’ are missing! How can I get them to appear?

      You are probably just looking at the container. In my videos I am butting up my window to the top left of my screen. That's where those menu items are at least on a mac. It's like that for browsers too. Check the top left of your screen and see if it's there next time.
