Makita did a great job adding the paddle switch, hopefully we will see them in the rotation more they have a great 18 v line
great little saw, definitely an innovative design...great to see some more Makita on the channel..thanks guys, have a great weekend!
Seven years later & they still haven't released a 12V brushless reciprocating saw!
I actually like the idea of this for stuff like trimming branches with one hand then most things. For me a recip is for odd jobs I cannot fit a bigger saw or grinder into. I am not doing a bunch of demo work. So this might be a good tool for me.
I could see this being useful for plumbers and closet installers who cut pvc, copper, & meta rods one-handed. Not a lot of power needed in those types of applications and easy to control with the paddle switch.
Really liking the new 12v batteries. Think makita made the right choice switching
This line has some growing to do, kind of big for that type of saw. I played around with their 12v CXT combo kit at HD their drill and impact and they felt really nice and were pretty compact. Them batteries though are so small lol.

Big makita fan
I feel like this is smoother and just as powerful as my 20v Dewalt reciprocating saw
They also make this same saw in 18v. I don't believe you get much more power, but runtime and compatibility makes it awesome.
Thanks TIA and Makita for the showing us this new 12v ripsaw. Good looking little saw. #tiacrew

I need this for small odds and ends jobs and sheetrocking/remodeling. sweet. nice review.
Recently bought this tool and I am completely abusing and beating it to hell every chance I can. It's not the most powerful but it does work like a horse as long as you have the right blade.
I've used it to cut 2×4,2×6,3/4 treaded rod,3 inch conduit, steel plate up to 1 inch it does the job and has impressed me, I don't need to get the 15 amp Milwaukee ever time now
I'd be incredibly happy if the m12 brushed hackzall was this style of slim ergo with a paddle switch. I'd still keep my m12 Fuel Hackzall and my m18 Sawzall, there are uses for all three styles...this Makita style would open it up a bit more than just the small hackzall versus the larger Fuel hackzall.
Looks like it would be great for cutting large wire and PVC too large for hand cutters, definitely not for heavy carpentry.
The 12v recip saws are pretty handy and definitely have their place for some applications. I'll stick with my Bosch though, it's nice and compact and essentially identical to the Milwaukee. Nice video fellas.

Nice little saw
Makers might like this saw for foam cutting became of the way you can hold it. I'm Mr. Milwaukee M12 but this is a cool little saw. I was kinda meh like Dan at first.
I want to see Pat's Autobody do a review on this.
+Cody Robertson we will take it to him
You missed the Jigsaw function fellas
Great review guys! The grip looks nice, but it's confusing to me. It's long, and far from small so you can get a ton of leverage on the cut, but it lacks power so that is useless. The forward paddle is a good idea, but then you have the other grip in the way, particularly if you are trying to use it in tight areas. It seems they had some great ideas that they morphed into one awkward and underpowered tool. I'm gonna have to get one in my hands and see if my opinion changes, but I don't think this one is for me.
+Wild Goose Thanks Goose, It is for more detailed work. Personally I like it!
Please do a head to head tool fight between the Milwaukee 2nd gen fuel drill vs the Dewalt DCD 996. It would be nice and much anticipated.
+Paul Nguyen It is coming
Need more brushless tools Makita.why get the 12v when they already have the 18v.? That's just another battery line.
+mysongordon Smaller and lighter for small applications
I'm stoked to be be seeing some more makita on here. So many makita haters. But the real problem is they just don't get to see all the awesome tools they have to offer nice review. #tiacrew
+Jason Swoger Exactly we try to offer all brands
Think this would be handy for an electrician? I.e. conduit cutting?
Hello. I am very fan of his videos..eu live in Brazil .. like a lot of the tools the battery worth q in my country and very expensive ..
Dan they do make an 18v version of that saw with the paddle switch
+Tony Powell I saw that! I love that switch.
Thanks for the info guys. I like the 12 volt stuff for light work. #TIACREW

Would be strong enough for metal work like 3/4 threaded rod and sheet metal?
The trade off in power between 12 volt and 18 volt is just to much. Seems like a good little tool but I would have to go with the 18 volt.
the guys I work with can do the detail cuts with a 15 amp saw
+dheehdu true
Cool review guys :) Are you gonna try the other new 12V Max tools? The brushless drill driver 12v Max DF332 is gonna be an awesome unit :)
+dominic van lievenoogen Yes, more are coming
With the brushless reciprocating saw, impact wrench, impulse driver, jigsaw... this is what they decide to have you review?
Do they even have a marketing department?
+Jeff McMillan We have the drill and impact coming
Great review guys!! T.I.A#1!!!! #TIACREW
+Mike Z ty mikez
What size metal can i cut with this ?
I have the 18v version and I have just about all makita tools I'm very disappointed with the 18v version.
I would have make it inline with just the paddle grip my self and got rid of the bulky lower handle. That's just me Makita designers.
+DarkRaptor99 I just saw that Dan mentioned the same thing :)
So is this my new electric toothbrush??
Useless!
I bought it, tried it, returned it. I love Makita, this was not for me. No power.
Me too
you should bump the the videos up a couple minutes by showing mo action of the tools. what I came for
+Max Vlogs we will
Yay!
Homer Simpson!!!
Niiiiice #tiacrew
Nice review, interesting design with the paddle. Not sure I'd trade my hacksawzall in for one but Makita looks to have made a nice compact saw here #tiacrew
that Makita tool sucks. I've used it before. fucking garbage.
