People Need To Learn That The Only Person Who Can Keep You From Succeeding Is Yourself. But Instead Of Admitting That Their The Problem They Rather Blame It On Other People Because Nobody Likes To Point The Finger At Themselves,They'd Rather Point It Elsewhere.

Every time I see them they're complaining about the white man keeping them down... You ask them what they got going on and it's nothing but talking about getting women, smoking and trying to get the newest clothes. I ask them about wanting to work or school and they think I'm crazy. They don't even try but contribute being oppressed to why they live with their momma and have a lot of kids. Fact bro, I got kicked out of the Juneteenth party yesterday because I said "African Americans victim mentality is holding them back nowadays."
The victim mentality is a plague in the black community. Our ancestors shed their blood for the opportunities we have today and instead of taking advantage of those opportunities many of us just use our dark history as an excuse for everything bad that happens in our lives.
No everything is not equal and we are still fighting, but huddling in a corner and crying about the struggles of life accomplishes nothing.
You don't get to choose the circumstances you are born into. You can either become an activist and fight the good fight or accept the situation and face life's hurdles.

Exactly. I inherited nothing from poor immigrant ancestors who only arrived in the late 1800s. What I did "inherit" were parents who were married to each other and provided for us kids, who read a lot and valued education, honesty, and work. That wasn't based on their race.

@@marlenecranford8957 but thats the point ,most black americans didn't inherit anything from their parents/ancestors because of segregation and oppression from the jim crow era. you can't deny that alot of peoples success comes directly or indirectly from their parents and their ancestors, it effects your entire upbringing. many black Americans didn't have proper access to education during those time periods. HBCUs were created because blacks couldn't go to the schools that white kids were going to. and even to this day HBCUs don't receive the proper funding. I agree that many black americans have settled for a victim mentality, and they need to rise above, but we can't just ignore the extra post slavery hurtles that black americans still have to go through to reach the "american dream".

This is what the majority of white friends/family I know consider "playing the victim" or "playing the race card"... not that the legacy of slavery/Jim Crow, etc., didn't, or doesn't continue to have, a profound effect on our communities...rather, that every perceived wrong is blamed on systemic racism, etc. When we do this, without even considering any other reasonable explanation, we diminish what it truly means to be a victim of that legacy.

    • @georgehunt292
      @georgehunt292 Před 4 lety +5

@@kfen8794 You pointed out a really key issue with the discussion, and part of what makes the left call conservatives racist and uncaring, while the right points a victim mentality: many many republicans (as a republican, I see it a lot) lack sympathy for the things that put black americans behind the curve in this country. While arguments such as that their progenitors worked incredibly hard and weren't always given help to succeed, and by doing so pass on that success and wealth to their descendants are valid, they can alienate others who either had ancestors slighted by a broken system or parents and grandparents who simply didn't provide the same level of support. While I disagree with the idea that whites need to pay reparations for black americans to succeed, it is very important for white americans to not be harsh, and try to understand why black americans feel slighted, and in addition, it's very important that white americans help to fix some systems that are still broken, like policing, it's training methods, punishment systems, and the criminal justice system attached to it, which is broken for all races in terms of police brutality, but is particularly highlighted in lower income communities where police are less forgiving of similar offenses found in higher income communities. And that last point is not to say that black communities specifically don't receive more harsh policing, but more to say that many of the more rough policing incidences occur in low income areas, white included, as opposed to higher income areas, this is just lopsided towards black communities due to current economic strata within the US, largely due to former systems which held back black americans economically.

I agree. And it's sad to see that when black folks know the truth, speak the truth, and act as individuals and think with their intelligence and instincts and not their color they get extreme hatred and vitriol from white liberals and Democrats in general. I honestly feel like that for African-Americans to be better off in this country they need to reconnect with their political-heritage... In 1934 the first black Democrat was elected to congress, prior to this 21 Black Americans served in congress as Republicans. The Democratic party has have over 200 years of oppressing minorities and blacks... Now I'm not saying that blacks should all become Republicans because the Republican party then was much different than it is now. But if you look at these black folks that served before the 20th century, many of them were adherents to natural law (natural rights) and maximizing individual freedom while restraining the government as much as possible, because the government allowed such institutions like slavery to exist in the first place.

What surprises me is that if you hear people saying 400 years, why wouldn't you do a little research to find out why Blacks say this? Do you see your bias in not giving them the benefit of the doubt? Many whites are now saying that they did not know that Blacks were being brutalized by cops, yet Blacks have been saying this for years. If they were not biased against Blacks, they would have believed them without all of the cellphone videos. By the way, where is Mesopotamia today? Iraq, the Middle east. Who began to sell their slaves to European Nations? Fellow blacks. Sorry Loriann, I did pay a little attention during World History in the 7th grade. That is the problem when you begin to rewrite history. To live in that mentality and operate by that mentality is what keeps the black community from taking countries to economic war and instead keeps us begging for justice from the SAME folks who victimized us in the first place. @Desirea Winton sure, there may always be work to do for as long as humans are on this earth because true equality is impossible due to biology. We are equal. As far as the law is concerned everybody is equal, the "work that needs to be done" that you refer to is subtleties, individual prejudice and perhaps biological prejudices. This depends on other people to change, not us; we can only do our best and try to improve ourselves, our families, our communities. Perhaps it will take more work for a black family to rise up out of poverty? Better get to work to give your kids a better ride, that's how you break the cycle. No one owes you anything, complaining about injustice that someone ELSE has to fix is useless and personally destructive. The victimhood mentality is the direct OPPOSITE of taking responsibility. The world changes for the better as it has been and as it will continue to. Past injustices were because the state didn't give us a fair chance, current injustices are individuals there is a huge difference. Now is the time that we are no longer victims, if we did everything right and still fail, perhaps complaint is in order but when I hear people complain unprompted about racism, normally it mean's they haven't even started trying.

The victim sees no hope in improving the situation, how can things get better if someone is holding them back? This causes anger and frustration. This is how too many people see themselves, so much so that their victim status becomes their primary focus and they seek ideologies that support their outlook. Unfortunately there are many agencies willing to promote this victimhood. Maybe that's just because I'm culturally hispanic and looking into the problems rather than living them myself and seeing out.
I'm sure the tension of someone trying to save a drowning man is not the same as the stress of the man drowning.
My only true concern is that I don't want to be pulled into the water for my trouble, I want to get others out and safe from drowning in the first place!

This just proves that EVERYONE can make it. Seems all these people had rough upbringings. They all worked hard and they all made it. Everyone can feel they were the victim of some sort of injustice. The ones that let go of the feeling of being a victim or used that feeling to help push them further are the ones that make it in life. Doesn't matter your skin color...

When a black person starts narrating century old race issues and atrocities, for sure the next lines would be making an excuse for playing the victim.

I think they got close but never really defined it well. I’d say playing the victim is about what you do with an injustice, whether real or perceived. Some people will use it to limit what they think is possible. Some people will milk it to gain an advantage.

Well said indeed, Bereket. If I may, I shall add the opposite of “playing the victim.” Some people will explicitly acknowledge injustice (real or perceived) and while never denying it they continue undeterred in their determination to focus their energy on the control they have to succeed.

I love what the 3 Christians in this panel - that were outspoken on their faith said - racism is real but you don't have to let colour, race, gender hold you back - fight where it exists but use system to improve yourselves. Hope for America yet.
