"30 Years Later Show" is a geek music show hosted by Jacques Mathias. Some topics are sample libraries, audio plug-ins, physical and digital product reviews, guitars, and DAWs, emphasizing Cubase.
This episode will examine Samplicity's new release: the Berlin Studio plugin.
We'll run the Spitfire Symphonic Series through the Berlin Studio but wait a minute, only the close mics. Let's see how it sounds.

For the woodwinds, i think they should all be sent to a single group channel which is sent to a single instance of the reverb unit. The way you have done it has two problems: first your using more DSP than neccessary with so many instance of BSR open, but worse, you have a lot of room resonances building up.
Thanks for your comment! Welcome! I see. There are several ways of doing it, the way you've described is great, as well! However, I have some specific needs: some clients require "detailed stems", such as: Piccolos, Flutes, Oboes, Clarinets, Low Clarinets, Bassoons and Contrabassons. As a consequence I'm forced to prepare my sessions a bit more detailed than I wish I would if I didn't need to deliver these detailed stems.
It's not only that, it's also about coherence amongst all my projects. Example: when using MIR PRO on VSL libraries, I will apply it directly on the flute channel, and then, if I'm also using, let's say, a Spitfire one, I'll balance their sound against each other, and send both to a buss named "Flute". This way, all my sessions have always the same amount of "detailed stems", therefore, I'm able to prepare a nice Pro Tools mix template that always reflects my stems. But, honestly, If I didn't need to deliver stems, I would do just like you've described, or even simpler! See ya!
Excellent demo and expressive piece of music. This video sold me on purchasing the Berlin Studio. Great pacing.
Thanks! I highly appreciate your comment. Berlin Studio is a great option, you’ll have a lot fun using it. 😊
Great walkthrough. I just purchased the verb. No manual needed due to this video. Going to jump on your website. Thanks!
Thanks, Ben! I’m really glad that my video helped you. Berlin Studio is a great plugin, you can’t go wrong with it. Congrats! Welcome here!
Thank you. Clear explanation.
You are welcome! I’m glad you have found it helpful.
WOW! This is an excellent video from an excellent teacher. Thanks to CZcams for pushing your wonderful tutorial to me after noticing I was interested in Mir Pro 3D which is many times more expensive. I think for someone like me, professional, but just starting to use Room IR on orchestral samples this is a much more manageable and affordable start! And yes, your final statement is SPOT ON. More is not always more. Sometimes enough is…enough. Bravo and thanks. Instant subscription.
Thank you, my friend! Highly appreciated! Buy what you can, and go make music. I own Mir Pro “2D”, and it’s definitely great, however, Berlin Studio sounds really good, and will solve your orchestral requirements. You can’t go wrong with it. Honestly, eventually, you’ll end up acquiring both. For now, Berlin Studio will put a smile on your face. Good luck!!
You just convinced me to pull the trigger on Berlin Studio AND get Spitfire Symphonic on sale. I had a trial version of Berlin Studio and I tried it on VSL VI and it's like magic. It's even more magical with Spitfire Symphonic.
Thanks for your comment, Venom! I’ve tried Berlin Studio with VSL silent stage recordings, and it works beautifully as well. Yeah, it makes Spitfire Symphonic series more versatile, since it provides a “new room sound”. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with the choices you’ve mentioned. Have fun! 😊
Man.... your videos are staying very good. Do you produce them by yourself? Congratulations!
Fala, Rômulo! Obrigado! Eu resolvi mudar o tema do canal pra violão, guitarra e tecnologia, por isto parei de postar pra encontrar formatos que consiga usar pra postar frequentemente. Parece que já encontrei. Sim, meu amigo. Eu mesmo gravo e edito tudo. Dei uma “estudada” antes. Grande abraço!!
Great Video. Do you mix your tracks with or without Berlin Studio activated?
Thanks! I tend to equalize the basic tracks without reverbs, and then after adding the reverb, I’ll check the frequencies it’s adding and re-equalize. So, it’s both. With and without.
This is the nicest 90's JW vibe piece i've heard. Berlin is nice but somehow it sound phasey to me.
Welcome and thanks for your comment! It's nice you've enjoyed this simple exercise/piece. Yeah, I miss the JW's era! These days, things got a little noisy. Yeah, simulations of rooms are not the real thing, having said that, I would say that Berlin Studio is amongst the greatest out there when it comes to "tools for orchestral music".
Thank you, this is easier to understand than some other videos on this plug-in. But if you want to have the same settings for each of your woodwinds, couldn't you use a single instance of the plug-in and put a send on each track?
Hey, welcome here! Yeah, you can send the signal from your woodwind tracks to a single instance, that's okay too. I prefer one instance per each “stem” I want to export later, such as Piccolos, Flutes, Oboes, Clarinets, Bassons, Low woodwinds, and etc. This way, I’ll be able to export a “bus” containing all my flutes, with the close and the ambience mics already balanced. Once I’m done, Cubase let me export all the tracks in a blink of eyes, but it’s just me. Maybe you don’t need to preset all these busses. Thanks!!
