Hey i have one reaction suggestion. So last year, over 80 singers, artists, and cast members came together to sing a charity version of the My Hero Academia song "You Say Run" to raise money for UNICEF. I think not only would it be an incredible reaction video, but it would help draw awareness for the cause. @@cxluisz7464 becaus did you remember earlier in the movie, when Taki (while being Mitsuha) went to the Miyamizu shrine to place the kuchikamizake, Mitsuha’s grandma explained that “in order to leave the underworld you must leave behind what is most precious to you.” In that instance when Taki and Mitsuha finally met, what was most important to them was each other’s name, so that they could find each other once twilight hour was over. But as previously mentioned, in order to leave that place they had to “leave behind” what was most precious to them, their names. The power of the gods forcibly erased the remembrance of their names from Mitsuha and Taki. So even if they did write each other’s names on each other, it would’ve disappeared anyways.

My favorite scenes in this movie are as follows:
    1. “I love you”
-The way the music slowly and quietly kicks back in, the revelation of what Taki actually wrote to Mitsuha, the tears in her eyes but the smile on her face, the hope in the inevitable calamity. Everything about this scene is done perfectly and the emotions hit like a truck every time.
    2. Twilight meeting
-The first time Taki and Mitsuha meet face-to-face, both still retaining the memories of everything they have been through and the feelings they have for each other, then to slowly see that all fade away like sand between their fingers is heartbreaking.
    3. End
-Seeing that Mitsuha has survived and her and Taki are both always so close, still searching for something but not knowing what or who, drags you through an emotional rollercoaster until their eyes meet from across separate trains. When they see each other, and they recognize the other while also not remembering who they are at all, and then race frantically throughout the city to find their other half, my face always lights up and my eyes water. Then as they finally talk to each other again and ask “What is your name?” as the credits roll, it’s the final straw as the tears flow freely.
    4. Taki’s sake vision
-This one I feel goes under most people’s radar. When Taki drinks the sake that Mitsuha made and begins to experience her entire life, from her birth all the way to her tragic death, it’s a wild ride and you’re hoping with every fiber of your being that whatever he’s trying to do works. Seeing the fear and pain in Mitsuha’s eyes as Tiamat bears down on her as Taki cries out for her to run is gut-wrenching. But seeing Taki wake up as Mitsuha again and cry in relief as he hugs himself, or rather her, fills you with the hope that this could all still work out in the end.
    5. Mitsuha goes to Tokyo
-Following the reveal of Itomori’s destruction by Tiamat, Mitsuha’s death, and the pair existing and communicating through separate time periods, we learn that Mitsuha had travelled to Tokyo to meet Taki face to face. But now, with the knowledge of the time distortion linking the two, it makes her journey seem that much more hopeless and we understand why Taki doesn’t recognize her, this girl who’s life he’s been living throughout the last several months and has fallen in love with. Her heartbreak at him not knowing her resonates with us as the viewer, and we feel the same pain she does. But as she begins to leave, Taki calls out to her for her name and she gives him her ribbon, which he kept for 3 long years as a reminder of her. Their connection is set, their fates are intertwined, and the hope remains.
This whole movie is phenomenal from start to finish, but pretty much everything in the second half is where it really shines. I both love and hate this movie (but not really hate). I love it for all the obvious reasons: it’s a fantastic story, beautifully animated, the music is great, the characters are wonderful, and the emotional payoffs are perfect. I hate it for 2 reasons: I can only experience for the first time once, and it makes me long for a life I know I cannot have. This film sits comfortably in my “Top 5 favorite movies of all time” and it’s not even close.
    “I love you”
The mind may forget, but the heart will always remember.

@@HyperionWasabi No, of course it's not eliminated here. I just find it a much more prevelant topic in asian fiction than in western fiction, also in the severityof it's depicted (meaning the bullying in asian fiction is much more violent and victims of bullying are much more suicidal). I don't suggest that this isn't happening in the reality of western life, just that the topic/theme of bullying seems to be much more focused in said cultures. The same goes for revenge, Korean fiction is so much more obsessed with revenge than any other culture I came in contact with.

In the digital social media age depression and suicide among teens is the highest it's ever been. Bullying is a huge part of that since now you can be attacked all the time in the web. I will say in any fictional story examples of bullying can be pushed to the extreme for effect. But I don't think it's worse in Japan. They're just not afraid to push the issue to the forefront and make people see the cruelty of it. Western culture try to bury it, hide it

私 「Watashi 」is the most common, but generally used by female and it's polite. This is also the first self pronounce that is taughy to people who study Japanese. Watakushi is I believe an even older and more polite form of Watashi, and only used by female. 僕「 boku」is a polite form but generally used by male. Just a couple of cultural notes. The red ribbon is in reference to the red thread of fate which in many asian mythologies links soul mates.
Also the when Taki told Mitsuha he drank that sake, she blushed because when you drink or eat something where another person last drank from it, it's called an indirect kiss. It's used a lot in anime. I'm not really sure if this is observed in real life though.

Here's a few things you probably missed:
-first. You remember the beginning (and the end too) where they talk about having a dream as if something's missing as they get ready for work? Notice how after they wipe their tears they stop to look at their hands... It's the same hand they tried to write each other's name on.
-In China and Japan there is an idea of an invisible red string connecting two destined lovers. Hence symbology of the string. There are other colors on the ribbon that represent other things too. The center white diagonal stripe symbolizing the comet, the blue around it for the lake(s), etc.
-There's also this big thing about how the god their family worship is actually a fraction of the comet that's given their family powers to save the village. That's how they have the dance and the tradition to honor their god. The comet actually came at least twice before. To make the lake and the god's underworld shrine. Both times also created craters. So the god gave the family there power to save it's people.
-And the BIG Whopper. Mitsuha wasn't going to write her name on Taki's hand. There are a few ways to write her name, the first, Kanji, can be read in multiple ways and is kinda complicated to write in the small time they had, so she wouldn't write it that way for a first meeting. The second way, Hiragana starts similarly with a straight left to right stroke, but we see her in the beginning writing in hiragana her name with a curved stroke, not a straight stroke. 07:41 in your clip. Instead the theory is she was planning on writing 'Suki da'. Which is written like this: すきだ ("sukida") And while you probably don't recognize it, it was actually in the movie. Specifically 22:53 in your clip. Yep, they were going to write the same thing. And yes, makoto Shinkai, the director admitted Mitsuha would have revealed her feelings than write her name down when asked in a Q&A

Glad you liked it. I feel it's one of the best anime movies to come out in the recent time. I was getting a bit worried that you'd call the twist out and I think that it would have made the impact a bit diminished. I get a bit teary eyed at this movie, just because it's so beautiful and really pulls on that emotion of longing or searching. For more movies, Myazaki films of course. His movies are typical gateways for people who don't have much experience with anime.

    • @kenjutsukata1o1
      @kenjutsukata1o1 Před rokem +2

I've never met or seen anyone who managed to actually call the twist. Seen somebody throw out the 'she's dead' theory before, but he'd also thrown out every other hair-brained theory on the planet as well, so it was more of a 'throw shit at the wall until something sticks' type approach. And thus the twist still surprised him. But the movie is so masterful at making everything seem like nothing more than an innocent and light-hearted body-swap romance movie that nobody sees the sudden swerve coming. Even though the opening of the film literally spoils the outcome, nobody remembers it until after the fact. Just masterful storytelling is what it is. I'll never forget the feelings I got when I first watched it in the theater. Absolutely incredible.

Want me to explain? aight c̶r̶a̶c̶k̶s̶ ̶k̶n̶u̶c̶k̶l̶e̶s̶
    Spoilers Incoming:
"Why did Taki not remember Mitsuha?" They lived on seperate timelines, thats why even tho mitsuha went to tokyo to see taki, he didnt who she was, the one that knows who mitsuha is the present taki.
"How did Taki save mitsuha?" Well, as you guys saw, mitsuha and her family worship gods. as a member of the Miyamizu family, Mitsuha has spiritual powers and can passively exchange her soul with another person. Mitsuha's exchanges with Taki are triggered by sleep and possibly her spiritual powers, as she had unconsciously wanted to “reincarnate into a handsome boy living in Tokyo”. This phenomenon only occurs during her youth. Exact conditions and causes are unknown, however, it most likely activates when Impending doom approaches, this activates as a way to save the host(mitsuha) and other people.
"How did they remember each other?" Love. I know it might be cheesy but hear me out, remember the part where Taki writes "I love you" instead of his name? that part. If he wrote his name, it wouldve been erased by the gods since its not allowed for people that arent supposed to meet in the first place to know each other's name, But since he wrote "I love you", It was allowed by Kagutsuchi(God of fate) for it was an emotion that would bring the two lovers together. And that emotion led to Mitsuha looking for Taki, cuz she felt like something is missing.
"How did they see each other on the mountain?" They saw each other during Twilight, the time when different worlds/timelines/dimensions meet.
Reply to me if you have other questions.
