Thanks for the video!! Was wondering what material was used for the block cover! I was hoping to make my hat blocks more useful by covering them during blocking to account for the sweatband!

Sorry for the delay in answering. In theory your plan should work...however you will have to do a test one to be sure as we find that some of our hoods vary in thickness.

What are yalls hoods made of that slip on over your block? In many of the videos they show here on CZcams they only show stretching over block bare blocks and leave out how they actually achieve a perfect fit with the sweat band. So yalls method intrigues me as someone whos wanting to learn this craft.

Looking online alot of hat blocks have a style# on their blocks which I suppose is standard. Making a standard cowboy hat, what # would you recommend?

@@nothingnewtome1 there's plenty of information to be had from the videos. We just can't give out everything from our business on the channel, especially since it was never started as a comprehensive guide to the trade.

There are some excellent established block makers in the UK and Australia. There are random antique blocks to be found on ebay and in junk shops all across the country. ...and there is a composite block maker on etsy. A simple search can find these and others. The question asked us was where did WE get OUR blocks and we DID answer that question.

@@nothingnewtome1 As mentioned, we have classes in traditional hat making but cannot speak for modern hat making. As far as blocks we would seriously recommend that anyone starting out buy composite blocks from the maker in New York. As stated our blocks are a lifetime's colletion of mostly antique blocks: a bunch of "second hand stuff" that we have collected over the years or had made by wood workers that we knew (not hat block makers). ALL of our tools are antique or made by craftsmen not related to hat making as what we use is (in most instances) no longer made. Hats By Leko is a source of tools/supplies (geared to more modern hat making) and learning rescources that we can recommend. We also recommend a more light hearted and positive outlook as It was hard to take a your first comments seriously due to the confrontational tone. For example, if we did wanted the skills to die with us, we would never have made any of these videos. (And I might note that we have heard from several makers around the world who took what we gave, ran with it, and have successfull business now.) Again, if you are serious about classes in traditional hat making, email us at hatsbygrizzmadewithjoy@gmail.com. Have a wonderful day and if you have further questions do not hesitate to contact us by private message/email.
