#Magic #TTC #lrrmtg - Hry
I'd love a series of Cam, Kathleen and a guest to do a rough summary of Magic story.
That'd be a cool idea for a special, extra long 500th episode!
To give them a headstart: 'Once upon a time there were some brothers who fought over some rocks and because of that now millennia later we're all leaking oil from our orifices.'
Haven’t even finished the video, but… yes, this is a good idea.
I was just coming here to see if we could get some sort of series about all of the Magic Lore because I started playing in Ice Age and then didn't really play again until like Ravnica Alleginces/War of the Spark time frame so I really don't have a clue what is going on Lore wise and feel like there's so much lore I can't catch up....
Drunk Magic History
“The condom against the Phyrexian impregnation”
This is the quality content I’m subbed for. Never change guys.
I definitely want to see more Kathleen and Cameron talking about lore! Story recaps, old lore summaries, talking about how good the Ixalan stories were! I love some lore and would like some more.
20:00 Kaito is the one who says "I just hope she died" in regards to Nahiri after she crashes the arena down on the basilica. Elspeth gives him a look.
Lukka, Who Makes You Hold His Beer So He Can Try To Do A Backflip
Lukka, The Dude Who Got Chosen Because Gideon Isn't Around Anymore
Lukka, The Sukka
Ah, so Lukka is the embodiment of the concept of "my weird Uncle"
A planeswalking Florida Man.
I love this summary of Lukka:
_gets compleated because he wanted to pet a phyrexian dog or something_
- "Praetor Vorinclex, we have caught Lukka, the planeswalker, he has been compleated!"
- "Ugh, did you have to?"
the part that makes it funny is that lukka was right
he successfully bonds with the ruin, but to use his magic goes "hey make sure i dont fall off"
then his dog stabs him to pieces
Lukka is the new Tibalt.
I would love more of Kathleen and Cameron summarizing magic story
Is Cameron’s mic okay? His audio seems to super drop randomly
If there was an audio technician around maybe they were messing around trying to get rid of the crunch in the audio.
Most of the time it was when he turned too far away from the mic to face Kathleen. I think the mic placement was just not ideal. I have noticed that this seems to be a common problem when Cameron is on these shows. He is a soft spoken person and doesn't always rember to speak perfectly into the mic.
I noticed it too and I'm not sure that it was just because of him turning his head away; it doesn't layer perfectly over him changing the angle of his vocal production and it doesn't sound like the natural cadence of a speaker's production volume dipping. It sort of drops in a plunging artificial curve like there was a problem with a noise gate feature or something on the audio recording/encoding
To me, the reason the Glistening Oil is seemingly overcharged is due to Jin Gitax making some tweaks after learning how to Compleat planeswalkers. The upgrade likely happened a couple days prior to the story at most
I'd like to see a "Vorthos Corner" of some sort with these two and maybe an uninitiated person like Beej.
Call it "Planeswalk Slam" and I'm in.
Second suggestion: "Clue Tokens"
My biggest question has been. What is the Ur-Dragon doing? Period. Like all this crazy shit is happening in the multiverse. The Ur-Dragon canonically sees all of space and time. And it is doing.....nothing? Sleeping? Idk and it seems super unlikely. But I'd love for the Phyrexians to "wake the sleeping bear" that is the Ur-Draon. Much like Urza and Mishra "woke" Yawgmoth.
This was fantastic. Please continue to do so, I will dongle the bongle for these episodes. (Also, I'd kill for a "flashback" version of this for your personal favorite story entries from the before times. Yes I just want more people to talk about Alesha's story.)
Oh, retrospective episodes would be amazing! Especially for parts of the story that are Cam/Kathleen's favorite parts.
I'd imagine that Elspeth went beyond the blind eternities and is now in just New York somehow
It's like Disney's Enchanted, except Elspeth is much deadlier than a Disney princess
Please keep up with these! As someone with ADHD, trying to read the story in so many pieces makes my brain melt, so I really appreciate these recaps in the absence of the stories being available as an audiobook.
Would love to see more lore episodes for future sets! Makes me honestly more interested in playing Magic and appreciate the flavour of the cards a lot more.
I like the lore podcasts!
I love episodes like this! id love to have an episode like this for every set.
I loved this! I agree with Cam, I like when the stories are more character focused which is why I tend to like the side stories a bunch more since they are usually one-and-done character explorations that don't need to hit all the plot points of an entire novel. I would love to see maybe more conversation from you two about the side stories too, either as their own episode or as part of a full set story episode of TCC, since I think those would be the kind of stories you two would like to gush more about.
I would absoluteley tune in to more of Kathleen and Cam summarize magic lore
The best stories make you feel things.
Being hurt by characters being compleated might be a good thing, if written well.
I was especially hurt seeing the Slobad card.
Teferi goes to save Elspeth who then pours hope into the sylex and creates a huge burst of halo
I for one really hope you guys do more of these in the future, I so rarely have time to read the articles for myself as busy as I am, and it hurts my vorthos heart lmao
Lukka being Compleated being a cunning plan would be a real "handing Deadpool to the Borg" kinda moment. Imagine Lukka just finds a way to assert his stupidity on all of Phyrexia and turns them into imbeciles.
Also, yes, please more Magic-Stories discussion videos. This was great.
A Man of Parts is one of my favorite stories now.
If you keep making lore/story stuff I will happily keep watching. Loved this episode.
After reading this story I now get why Urza decided on soul bombs rather than trusting a group of 9 planeswalkers not to devolve into in-fighting on a multiverse-or-death mission.
I do like lore. I also like having podcasts of people from LRR hanging out and talking about stuff they like. So this podcast has been a total win for me :)
Cameron's idea around the 48 minute mark was very novel.
If some combo of The Wanderer, Kaito, Kaya, and Tyvar become the new faces of the game for a bit, I'd be fine with that (and, as a blue player, Teferi coming up more and Tezzeret become the next lingering bad guy before the next big bad, I wouldn't complain). Also, I enjoyed having real stakes, but, if anything happens to the mechanical origami tanuki, I will riot.
Yesssss two of my favorite Drs. LRR talking lore.
Yes yes! These Magic (and general) lore videos are my favorite! I have watched the EDSC episode where Cam tells Warhammer lore like 7 times
yes please! More LRR explains the lore
Excellent, as always. Thank you.
Just adding my vote to more of these lore streams. its really fun and interesting learning about what's going on in the sets. The asides to how they tie into previous sets and storylines are also a lot of fun for someone who only got into magic in the last few years.
Loved the recap of the story and hearing y'alls thought on where it might be heading.
I appreciate these lore updates because I don't get story updates anywhere else. I'm just a little too disconnected from the game, in my casual enjoyment, for them to reach my ears normally.
I have not understood what's going on in the story probably since Kaldheim.
I'd love a lore recap/rehash series, despite myself having used this as my first TTC video watched. I am fairly new to MTG and MTG Lore, thanks mainly in part to the first D&D set, and trying to catch up in reading the books has been a struggle. I didn't even know until this set that there were web stories. So, if more podcast-esque lore recaps and even going back to the beginning of MTG lore were to happen, I'm in.
Haven't personally found the desire to read the stories myself, but this cameron x kathleen format is incredible, we need more please
Lore drops are awesome and I’m here for more like this!
This was excellent, I hope there are more story recaps! Some deeper dives would probably tempt me, too!
This was awesome! Loved that you folks got the opportunity to do this. I hope it can happen again
I certainly enjoyed this and the Strixhaven story talkabouts and would happily listen to more :)
I think that Lukka's honestly a pretty good example of why you don't see more stupid planeswalkers. They need to have some level of intelligence (or at least, you know, some amount of instinct to keep themselves alive) or they planeswalk to Ixalan and try and make friends with Galta
I would absolutely listen to more of these!
YES! MORE LORE! I will absolutely listen to more of this type of podcast.
I love lore recaps like this! I hope you decide to do more in the future
love hearing you two discuss lore!
I very much enjoyed this. Thank you guys and more please!
I love lore. I would definitely listen to your analysis of old magic stories!
Oh my gosh. I would love to have these people just slowly explain magics lore to me, because I absolutely adore it, but I absolutely do NOT have time to accumulate it into any kind of coherentness. In short, more of these streams would be AMAZING
I plan to read more, but with little time for it atm, I really appreciate you guys giving your recap that I can listen to passively! I'm intrigued but it has always seemed daunting to read and catch up
As someone who had dipped out of the magic story after WAR and is only tenuously connected to the story now;
this a good recap about ONE, and it reminds me what I liked and didn't like about the magic web fiction. I definitely think they got gun shy about doing books after the WAR kerfuffle but I think them doing books in addition to web fiction would be a good move as like a lore directors cut.
I appreciate this recap even though I'm personally not interested in getting deep deep back into magic story. I'd definitely like a more regular "Hey here's a 'quick' but not exhaustive summary of this set" maybe not for every set but just the bigger ones, the smaller once can get a "here's this set's vibes" review.
Don't play magic, but I enjoy stories. More story-time with Kathleen and Cameron please. Thank you.
I'm very excited for this! I enjoyed the last set story but haven't remembered to get to this one in time
Please do continue this, listenting to Cam and Kathleen talk about the mtg story is amazing!
Yes! Please! More lore! I love getting literary analysis alongside the plot.
I would absolutely love an episode every so often of the two of you (and anyone else who wants in) going over the lore and discussing it~
I'd listen to more story recaps like this. It was a lot of fun. Thank you Kathleen and Cameron!
I'm 100% here for more episodes of Cam+Kathleen talking lore, as many as you'd like to make! As a suggestion for the future, I'd love if you gave a little more context for things; I felt like some aspects could be confusing for people who haven't read it themselves.
Also, I am definitely of the opinion that Jace was right in blowing up the sylex and I'm SO HAPPY you guys think so too! #TeamJace #JaceWasRight #JusticeforJace #Jacetice
I would love to see more lore vids! Can't wait to watch this episode!
I loved this story recap and would LOVE more
A nice change of pace, I liked it very much!
Magic story time is wonderful and I'd love more of it - praise Heather for the upload!
I would love more lore content from you guys! It was great fun to listen to.
I loved the lore discussion and would watch more of it.
This was charming. Please do more of these
I listened on Spotify but I’m coming over here to say that I loved this and I would so totally listen to more of your thoughts on the story :)
I absolutely love lore! Please continue to do this!
I love when people smarter than me discuss Magic story and digest it in words in ways I can understand without condescension
A small note though, in the beginning of the episode, you mentioned that there will be links to the stories in the description, and , unless I'm *utterly* blind, they're not there
I think Elspeth is going to ascend to old-walker-level power as she absorbs the sylex blast. Angels are generally collections of mana from a plane, and don’t usually have souls for a spark. But Capennan angels seem to need to ascend to angelhood. Old Walkers’ bodies were projections of mana from their spark. Coincidence? I think NOT!
This episode was great. More lore please. I also like how every time Kathleen is on the show she brings a little bit of goat talk.
Thanks for the update! I'd be totally on board for a podcast where the two of you explain and discuss mtg lore, that sounds both entertaining and informative. you could even dive into the backlog of older magic story if you ran out of things to say about the ongoing story.
Watched the whole thing. Definitely on board for more Lore recap stuff!
"They should let the author write what they want, and then put it in a book and sell it"
*War of the Spark novel war flashbacks *
Honestly what that novel needed was 1 person on the actual creative team to read the book BEFORE it was too late to make changes, because it certainly seemed like everyone who knew the lore was busy, and author just got the cliffnotes of the existing lore
I loved this lore discussion, please do more!
Very happy for more lore!
I really really want Kathleen and Cameron to continue these lore discussions and maybe eventually make dice friends campaigns in the magic multiverse with their infinite wisdom and impeccable comedy
I’d like to see more of this. I don’t read the stories anymore but this was a nice way to absorb some of the recent lore
This was great! Please do more of these!!
When talking about the length of the story, it was mentioned having a book for the guys that want all the lore, and a shorter web novel for the people who are less invested, and didn’t they do that for the war of the spark and I recall that being a neat way to be able to have a good way to be able to view the story from both angles
This is such a cool combination of a storytelling podcast and a chatting podcast - love it :D
Oh please I'd love for yall do do more of these like Lore rundowns
This was great. More of these please
I would love more of these, as I don't tend to read the magic lore, but would like to know it decently, and it is interesting hearing your takes on it
The five Praetors are all "vatborn" which I would say makes them more important than compleated Phyrexians but Atraxa was compleated from a Mirran Angel
Yes, please more of this! Now I am actually interested in whats happening
This was amazing hopefully it can become a recurring thing on the podcast
This was great! I felt really behind on the story for this set and now I know exactly what's going on! I would love something like this every set 👍
Seanan McGuire was the author for the main story, she’s done some of the side stories before and she’s always a fantastic author. Love her writing.
Of note, Tibalt is confirmed dead dead. Seanan mentioned on Tumblr that she wanted Tyvar to have some catharsis after Kaldheim’s story, and double confirmed permadeath was allowed with WotC. So Tibalt’s splat is final.
A sophisticated group of people don't need repeated instructions, yet you will provide.
Came to the comments to also note that I'd love a storytime with Cam Kathleen as a regular thing! Thanks for this, and please nerd out more!!
More Lore Please! Ton of fun to listen to and help me get up to speed while im studdying
That was fantastic
I'd love to see this as an ongoing bit, even more if it could cover stories past
I do really like lore and would love to see more of these discussions
I enjoyed it very much. I don't get a chance to read up on the lore and really appreciate you telling me the story.
This was awesone!
I haven't read MTG lore since Torment, and boy am I here for it. Thanks for making it so fun!
Yes, more lore summaries please!
I'm here to sign up for more lore episodes please :). Story digest episodes would be massively appreciated! This was very enjoyable
Really enjoyed this - I used to read the story religiously through the gatewatch saga until... well, the omnishambles. This has made me want to go back and catch up, so if you keep doing them as they come out I'll keep watching.
This was super great! I love reading all stories as they come out, but it's super cool to see people nerding out on things I like to nerd out on.
Also, I would love to see Lukka somehow being something like a last phyrexian after all of this and refusing to make more phyrexians because he's like "they are not as good as I am, so they don't deserve it. Humpf"
One thing I wish they'd explained was how these planeswalkers could just be compleated walking around New Phyrexia. Like, in the past, that was the thing with Karn. His spark left him immune to the oil he carried, and it was losing his spark that allowed him to succumb to the oil in the old story, and giving him a new spark basically cures him. With Tamiyo, it took Jin-Gitaxias and the reality chip to compleat her, not just leaving her on New Phyrexia for a long time (hence, Koth not being compleated). But, now, Nahiri, Jace, and Vraska can just be compleated by too much contact with the oil?
Also, I really hope they don't end the story with there being some was to "cure" phyresis. Like, I don't think any of them could be physically healed, but, I could see there being something about them being planeswalkers that there's something of them still in there that allows them to be brought back to their old selves mentally (they sort of hinted at this in the Texxeret story in BRO), but, I hope they don't do that, and that little bit of hope was justleft there so they had something to crush.
