Beautiful plant, I love the glossy leafs. I like the snow cap and the variations.
They're beautiful!
I had no idea these were perennial. I always thought they were a tropical. I learned something new today😊
Well some are tropical/subtropical, just have to research ones hardy for zone 7a and 6 to see which are more hardy. Lots to pick from!
Love this plant in deep shade under my trees outside. Biggest issue I see here in Florida is people plant them where they are over exposed to the Florida sun and get cooked.
And it doesn't take much to cook them with those temps!
Thanks Jeff!
i've been considering this plant. appreciate the care tips!
Always a pleasure! They're worth growing, easy and green!
This is like if a Hosta had a big sister. I kinda dig it that snowcap I might experiment with with its mohawk type vipe. Ty!
Love the snowcapped and that's a great way to describe them!
I have a couple of these. I'd recommend them for a beginner. I put mine in a terracotta pot because I find plastic pots have less moisture evaporation from the soil and can lead to overwatering issues
Thank you Jeff....
I don't really have an opinion on them one way or the other but I am leaving a comment because it seems rude not to.🤣 Hope you are able to find a new patio umbrella that won't fall apart after two weeks.
😆 I'm not even trying anymore. I'm keeping this torn up one until the storm season has passed. Looks like garbage but im sick of throwing money away on the dang things. I have a high quality one up in my attic but its a replacement canvas that needs to be attached to a frame and I don't have time for that right now.
Hi Jeff! I really like the looks of the Cast Iron plant, especially the snow cap and variegated ones. I haven't tried one yet, but may pick one up if I see one. I'm pretty leery of plants that tend to attract spider mites, like ivy. I will NEVER buy another ivy for indoors. Really appreciate all of the tips! Thank you so much for sharing!
Mine is nearly a decade old, and it is starting to push itself out of the soil because the rhizomes have all hit the edges of the pot. Time to divide! I have a 'Milky Way' one that has much more vigour than the regular green for me. 🥂
I need a Cast Iron plant! 🪴
They're nice plants to have around.
Mine outside totally unprotected took -6F with about 25% damage
Super sturdy! Mine always die back fully when it drops below zero. Maybe I should lift them and plant them a smidge deeper? I don't know how much that would help the hardiness of the foliage though.
How can I grow these outside in zone 6?
Plant them in well drained soil in a spot that stays relatively dry in the shade. If you have a spot near a wall or the house that offers some winter protection, that's even better.
Thank you Jeff. Be safe stay healthy and we’ll see you next time. 🪻💚🙃 Maybe on my 🎂, probably. 🪻💚🙃
Thanks Judy! Have a great friday!
@@TropicalPlantParty You as well 🪻💚🙃
I managed to kill my cast iron plant. It was living in the house and I brought it outside for the summer, I had forgotten that it was in a pot with no drainage holes, it drowned. It rained exceptionally hard one day, thinking nothing of it when I did finally check on my plants the cast iron was flooded. ☹️🪻💚🙃 Lessons learned. I can and do plant some of my plants in pots without drainage because I tend to underwater all of my plants. I just can’t take the plants outside when their in pots without drainage. ☹️🪻💚🙃
Oh yeah I'm the same. Can't take anything outside if it doesn't have a drainage hole. That's why I drill over-flow holes in all my self watering pots. Hate when that happens!
@@TropicalPlantParty It is annoying. 🪻💚🙃
I THINK you have a Plumeria ? If you do maybe you could make a video on Plumeria care indoors ? I want to try another one very badly, I fell in love with them when we visited Hawaii many years ago. I definitely have the time now to try one again. 🪻💚🙃
I agree, I had two cuttings… followed all directions and the both shriveled up and died. I am heartbroken. I would love to have a beautiful plumeria in my yard!
I ditched my plumeria when it got really big. Mine had plain dark red flowers on it that I wasn't crazy about. I did a video on them. It was more on their winter care indoors though since I've always just kept them outside during their growing season. I think if you search, "tropical plant party plumeria" the video should show up for you. 😊
@@TropicalPlantParty okay thanks Jeff. 🪻💚🙃
The cast iron plant I had was a VERY slow grower. 🪻💚🙃
They are exceptionally unconcerned with racing through life. 😆
@@TropicalPlantParty Yes, yes they are. 🪻💚🙃
