"As Good as New" is a song recorded in 1979 by Swedish group ABBA, and was used as the opening track on their Voulez-Vous album. The lead vocals are by Agnetha Fältskog. The song was released as a single in Mexico as a double A-side with "I Have a Dream", where it became ABBA's ninth (and final) number-one hit. "As Good as New" was also released in Argentina and in Bolivia.

The opening track from their 1979 Voulez-Vous album. A great song with excellent vocals from Agnetha. Unfortunately because it was an album track and never released as a single, it never gets the love it deserves but a great track nonetheless.
"If It Wasn't For the Nights" is another excellent album track from this album that was worthy of being released as a single.

The swedish group alcazar do the cover version of this for a live Abba tribute so it would be good for you to check out their version. Abba should have released this for a single but they didn't I am sure it would have been a big hit!😊
I love the first 8 bars of stunning string orchestra writing followed by funky disco.
Genius.
This was a great opening track to the album and a clever way to introduce the fact that they were embracing disco, with the strings giving way to the funkier sound.
You are so right this song was very underated at the time but i love today as much i did back then. The footage is taken from a tour they did in mid-late 1979 and the bits you are seeing is the US leg of the tour. I saw them live when they then came the Uk on NOv 9th 1979.
You really got to hand it to their session players too. Some of the best.

You can never go wrong with disco! Growing up with it I never grow tired of it. And I still discover songs I've never heard. This should've been a single. A happy up tempo song.

Their best album? It will be an even battle between Super Trouper, Voulez Vous and The Album. And of course Arrival with the gems Knowing me, knowing you, My love My life, Money M M & Dancing Q. It depends on what mood you are in.

100% agree that this track is so underrated. This album is one of the reasons im a Disco House DJ. Love this sound. Voulez-Vous is definately my favorite album, Super Trouper being a close 2nd.

Voulez Vous is a great album, followed by The Album
Part of the formula, with many of their songs is percussive lyrics to bring in the chorus. "Chi-qu-ti-ta" "Mon-ey mon-ey mon-ey" "Gim-me gim-me gim-me" "Ma-ma-mi-a" "There-was-some-thing-in-the-air"

i havent heard all the full albums of abba yet, but so far voulez vous is easily my favorite. Im addicted to it! its all killer, no filler. Even though i think i have a dream is a bit boring, and the king has lost his crown not my personal favorite, they are still GREAT songs! gonna listen through all abba albums, i hope they are as good as VV cause this is straight up the best pop album ive ever heard

A lot of ABBA songs only had a limited release. As Good As New is one of these with release only in Mexico, Argentina, Bolivia (maybe other Spanish speaking Central and south American countries too - not sure). Reached number 1 in Mexico.
Voulez Vous is their best album !!! Another great song from Super Trouper album to review is Our Last Summer !!
I love the classical strings, the refrain and the chorus as well. The disco parts reminds me of the Bee Gees (Stayin' Alive). The song is better than I've alsways thought. Maybe I didn't appreciate the mish-mash of styles, and the lyrical content seemd a bit lightweight. A fun song but far from their best.
'The Album' is my favorite ABBA album.

favorite if i had to choose, it would be The Album.. Eagle, Take A Chance On Me, The Name Of The Game, One Man One Woman, Move On, Hole In Your Soul, Thank You For The Music, I Wonder and the wicked I'm A Marionette as closer..... yep, a dance song is missing..... but still.
