OldSkuleNerd Theme Music by Torrential Rain - Hudba
Did you know that Tuomas started studies to become marine biologist but after four months music took him totally? Also there was three free divers doing those shots.
How do u know they had three divers
Three divers are being credited in the description of the original video on the NW channel
love those diver parts and wondered how they can dive so deep..so long
and Floor is a free diver
When I First heard this song, I wasn't sure.. especially with the very interesting video visuals. I wanted Floor's vocals mixed up front (unrepentant Floor fan). But..Now, I can't Stop listening to it. I'm hooked on this song. It's beautiful..tribal..anthem..Celtic accents and it Rocks Hard. I'm a Happy NW fan.
That seems to be literally the problem with this video, that so many people see this as Floor and her backing band, instead of a GROUP .. and now with her vocals being more a part of a whole rather than the full focus, so many people to me have shown how much they underestimate and undervalue the rest of Nightwish, not just Floor.
Obviously intended to be like that I thought it sounded magical, Floor still sounds brilliant as per usual. Do not get the nit picking with Floor's vocals not higher . Imagine this played live WOWWOWWOW
@@minimaltrace...Lead Singers usually are out in Front. And, at First listen, I was feeling that Floor's voice was mixed in a lighter "choir" type way....But, with repeated listenings, I understand that this was Tuomas's creative vision & Now I like the song even more.
@@minimaltrace To be fair most bands have their singer a lot more forward than in this song. Having your singer so buried in the mix is not usual. If she was just buried in the choir it would be fine, but the choir is also buried.
@@chrism2964 That's the whole point, "it is NOT normal",a lot of people saying the same thing about the vocal after the first hearing and afterwards make some "philosophical" excuse for it. The message ,for me,is in the poëtic lyrics and the video, there is no xtra value for me ,to mix the main vocal that low in the mix. I like the song/video,not the mix/sound production.
Another masterpiece of Tuomas mysterious mind
I still find it amazing that we know more about the surface of the moon and various elements of space, than we do about the depths of our own oceans.
A Lovely Bunch Of Coconuts = Nightwish's current lineup + Jukka N company.
The free diver is Guillaume Nery - and most of the underwater video is real footage, not CGI. (Search for "One breath around the world".)
Yes thank you…. When I make a reaction I have no knowledge of the what, why, how after I usually check out all those things
@@OldSkuleNerd There's a lot of detail that you can't pick up first time around. (All of the books are works of Charles Darwin, for instance.) I've watched it a dozen times at least!
@@OldSkuleNerdIf you are interested, check the reaction video of Manon de Reeper and read there the pinned comment about some of the filming of the Parfume of the timeless video. Very interesting stuff.
Your point about the incredible amount of scientific discovery going on is well taken. Three names. Charles Darwin, Max Planck and above all Albert Einstein.
Thanks for shariing your natural science knowledge. The world needs more nerding outs.😊❤
This song really draws you in and just gets better with every listen. Thank you for a nerdy reaction, I loved it. 😃
Came for a Nightwish reaction. Got a lecture about science and whales. Loved it!
I know I have my nitpicks about this songs sound mix, but when I Really Dive In (pun intended) to the music and lyrics, this song is as massive as The Greatest Show on Earth...WOW. And that statement: "You are the dream of many ancestors"... So Powerfull 🤯
This new Album is gonna be massive... Can't wait!!!
Great reaction my good sir!!!
NWSU/FloorFan/Epican/Ayreonaut/TWA 🤘😎🤘
Funny thing is now that we know what Floor sings in the choruses, it´s easier to hear her.
@@ANDZIGCREAM Agreed 100%!!!
I still have a LITTLE problem with the mix but, it's such a epic song wich grows on me the more i hear it. 🙂
Most people say it's the volume of Floor's voice (i also tought that first) but , it's more to do,i think, with the massive orchestral parts were some frequenties are in the same range as the vocals .But hey,if this is ,hopefully, going live in the future ,i'm sure it's gonna be a banger.🤘
@@strabel803 Kai said in a video that it's intentional. Floors voice is in the choir instead of lead.
@@ANDZIGCREAM Well, even if Kai says it's intentional, does that make it better?🤔 You know,i can understand artistic choises, but as a listener,i don't have to agree with some choises. Don't get me wrong,i like the song a lot but sometimes artistic choises get in the way for me as a listener. I respect Tuomas a lot as a composer/musician.,as a producer i would have some little differences with him, it's a personnel thing .😉🤘
I love this, and have watched approximately one million reactions already, but your expert "nerd" reaction definitely stands out, and I appreciate it. 👍🤘
That third verse goes strong with the horns. Hits like that meteor.
Great reaction, and thanks for the Marine Biology lesson it was brilliant and interesting 👍👍👍
Thanks, great reaction
Finaly the band that made youre channel grow extremly fast in the beginning back on the channel, Great reaction as always
It’s not my intention to not do a reaction to nightwish they have been quiet as they transition from past events of these years to this new vision so they never left my channel and I am excited for what stories they tell
@@OldSkuleNerd i never sad you left them😀 its just the way you bring the reactions on my Band, i love it so i hope en think when the album drops... i get a few....
Greetings from Finland 🤩
This song is a perfect sequel to Greatest Show on Earth
Kittos from the Netherlands
Good to see you again! This song is so amazing!
Hey mate, good stuff. There are a lot of Vocal Coaches who do the vocal analysis (but yeah, Tauri is great), it's always interesting to hear new angle to the video, especially if it helps explaining wtf is going on. Composers, Guitarists, Drummers, Roadies, Film Directors, Influencers, Monks, Psychologists, Historians, Biologists each have their own angle to talk about.
Nightwish fan 4ever 🤘😈💜
the free diving shots are from "Guillaume Nery - One Breath Around The World".
And that shot where you said that it was two scenes overlayed, pretty sure that is one shot but turned 180° where rocks are overhanging the water.
11:27 - what the heck? That's so cool! :D
*I'd be down to listen to you nerd out about this stuff :)
I actually think that the "under", "over" water shoot is actually under water but inverted. It could be an air pocket or something like that. But it looks sick.
that's it. It's upside down. What looks like a shore line is actually a rocky "ceiling"
I concur.
Yep.
Thank you OSN! Great reaction 😀🤘. Actually they flipped the pictures Upside down. You see the surface from downside and it looks like the diver is swimming into the sky,
but he is going down. 🤓🙃 Greetings from Germany 🤗 alex
Thanks OLDSkULENERD this being great .
I liked the enthusiasm and your particular take on explaining the marine parts.
Tuomas of course has always been obsessed with the ocean (album, Ocean born; lyrics in many songs including Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean, Ocean Soul,
Nymphomaniac Fantasia, Know Why the Nightingale Sings, Beauty and the Beast, The Riddler, Pharaoh Sails to Orion, Sleeping Sun, Stargazers, Dead Boy's Poem (in which he refers to [himself] "a lonely soul, an ocean soul"), Sleepwalker, Bless the Child (again mentioning Ocean Soul), Dead to the World (yet another ocean soul), Ghost Love Score of course, The Poet and the Pendulum (the best of all Nightwish songs) and Shudder Before the Beautiful (Ocean born again).
There is a lot more in here of course - the grand theme set out at the beginning, that we are all whispers of our ancestors, the lingering perfume of ancients.
Ville has directed/produced Nightwish videos for years and years, which is why they are the best music videos from any band .
A Lovely Bunch of Coconuts has been the company name he uses for a very long time.
Return to the sea
🤗🍒🤘🏻 well done again and welcome back
Nightwish is Nightwish :)
One of the best reactions I've seen. Dude you know what you're talking about
Só cool that you know all that stuff! Thanks for sharing :-)
Well done for keeping your reaction to this under an hour!😆😎
Thanks so much OSN!
Epic storytelling, beautiful song and video. Enjoyed your reaction 😀
I saw that Mark Twain was asked, toward his end, what he thought the greatest discovery was in his time. He said "anesthesia." ••• PEACES!!!
Really appreciate your style of reacting. You have a depth of analysis, creativity and positivity.
There is no Issue with the Mix.
Floor is singing WITH her ancestors, she is part of it, and not on top of it.
And the Chorus is represeting it in that way.
Be the nerd all you want! Your nerdiness excites me to be ever more excited to see this song and epic video. Everyone else the reviews this song bring another element to the song. I had to laugh at your reaction and don’t fret over others that don’t like you nerding out 🤟 long level Nightwish
loved your reaction and as for NIGHTWISH smh fucking awesome
Big NW fan OSN. The clip is great and the message is massive, but somehow I'm struggling here. But that's just me. Great achievement but Ill have to listen more to find the balance. And your reaction is honest as always. Rock on buddy!
Thanks for yor great reaction! This song together with the fantastic video is a great journey - a piece of art! The new album will (hopefully) a perfect sequel to the "Greatest show on Earth". Cant wait for the new album!
The research era began earlier, in the Age of Enlightenment:
Napoleon had a staff of scientists with him on his Egyptian campaign around 1799.
Alexander von Humboldt traveled the American continent around 1800 and recorded everything he encountered. The Humboldt Current, which runs through the Pacific, is named after him.
Johann Friedrich Böttger is considered the first chemist because he was able to copy Chinese porcelain through systematic research in 1708. In doing so, he breaks the Chinese monopoly on porcelain. Only one ingredient is different, which still distinguishes Chinese and European porcelain today.
Isaac Newton had already laid the foundations for modern physics at this time.
In 1880 we are in the middle of the industrial age and the beginnings of globalization. The findings can be used industrially and research is carried out for this purpose.
The scenes with the free diver are from this video. He swims with real (live) whales. The scene you explain with two frames is actually only one. He runs upside down on the ceiling of a cavern. There's some air on the ceiling, which looks like mercury here. Only the camera is turned:
One Breath Around The World
Q&A with GUILLAUME NERY
I 100% agree with you historical accounts I should have made it more clear that the knowledge was distributed out to the mass public so public knowledge of all these things began at that time
Thank you OSN! :) great reaction! :)
Great reaction, I love your insights. I think when the album Yesterwynde comes out, I will start listening to it while rereading The Baroque Cycle by Neal Stephenson, maybe you have read it, a mix of science, history, myth....
That was an outstanding series from Neal Stephenson. Hardly anyone seems to know about it.
@@WardDorrity Thanks for confirming. As chemist and science editor, and fan of everything from Heinlein to Tolkien, I love the roots of modern science and this book series was such a pleasure.
@@erickvermeulen9734 I suspect that our respective libraries would have much in common. I'm 73, and I grew up on Heinlein, A. E. Van Vogt, Louis L'Amour and so many others. You know what - now I have to set aside other stuff and re-read the Baroque Cycle.
Hey bro, another Nerd from germany here. Let me just tell you that I so much like your comments and knowledge of many things. It makes your reaction fresh and adorable! But one thing you STILL need to learn - lol - that is the pronounciation of Floors family name. Let me try to help you:
The a in Jansen is to be sounded like the a in FAR and the s is not sharp but like in NOISE.
So I proofed my nerdy side here too.
Stay the one you are, in fact I don't give a shit on how you pronounce, important is the love you show to our beloved band.
👍😆 I thought the same thing "3 months ,for learning to pronounce "Jansen" '". Most people say "Jensen",but the A is pronounced like ,for instance in the word "Arch". Well , Oldskulenerd has time till September (album coming out) to get it right.😉🤘
Yeah I’m not Dutch so… is it really that important that I say it perfect or that I keep saying it cause she will always be loved in my community? Lol 😊
@@OldSkuleNerd As I said, doen't matter at all as long as you show love to our alltime queen.
@@user-nr2by3gf8g I do realize she is one of the most amazing vocalists of her lifetime I have said so many times... but I will say I do not play favorites I love them all... #nogatekeeping #noelitism
@@OldSkuleNerd 😂 Well,just a bit worried after ,3 months of study,it's still not right.😆😉 😘 (you still have untill September 20🤣)
Floor and Nightwish already are legends for most of the army/fanbase and are still "recruting"more fan's the ❤ is getting bigger and bigger.🤘
The free diving bits are from One Breath Around the World with free diver Guillaume Nery. Someone on another video mentioned it. Worth watching, absolutely amazing just like this video. Great reaction 😊
The museum sequences were filmed at The National History Museum at Tring, Hertfordshire, England.
It holds the Rothschild collection of 'stuffed' animals from the period of history you referred too.
about the diver swimming in air the pic is just upside down vat you see as a coastline is air trapped under a cliff
Water need 🤣 and you nailed it 👏
Nice Reaction 😀
Anglerfish , but who cares , it’s great !
Both are there, lanternfish in the drop of water rolling off the leaf, lanternfish 50 seconds in.
That image your saying is 2 overlaid. It looks like caves Ive dove at the top of the cave with air spaces, the image looks like that but upside down. Just a thought. Diving for 40yrs, over 2200 dives logged. Great reaction.
Funny thing Floor wanted to be a Biologist when she was young.
👍👍😎😎🤘🤘
That minute of text with the epic music, I put it on TikTok, also the last part with Troy singing. A lot of views and likes 😁 Nice to see you back reacting to Nightwish ❤
🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
I totally watched to this point :)
I understand the free diver shots were from a NatG doc. But nicely edited and enhanced with cgi elements in places.
What a swank!
Marine Biology?! Nice! Come and visit us at Ecopath with Ecosim ;-)
Nightwish Arena (who else?) has the upgraded mix, for those who'd like more clarity in the Floor/choir parts 👍
The diver is freediving in water, that filming is done years ago.not by nightwish.
Lanternfish -----> Anglerfish
wondering if you ever saw the SciFantasy TV series Sanctuary (2008-2011)
I did but at the same time I’m not trying to David Attenborough a music video
Damn, not Nightwish giving you an Existential crisis halfway through xD You ok? xD
🐕
angler fish right?
There are multiple species of angler fish the one depicted is specifically referred to as the lantern due to its “lure” is not just reflective to natural light but can generate bio luminescence on its own… nature at its most epic “old my beer” lol
Hahaha, it took you 3 months to say the name Floor Jansen, but still you pronounce it wrong (No disrespect, it's funny) the A in Jansen sounds like the U in duck (I keep it nice) the J indeed s pronounced as the Y in English.
Floor is also a Free diver, I guess she got HUGE lungs because of this beautiful but extreme sport. I love the lyrics and the video. Every time I see and hear it I discover new things.
Thanks sir
Killer whales or Orca are actually in the Dolphin family they are not true whales.🤘🎸
Killer whales are still whales. The dolphin family is in the toothed whale suborder, which also includes sperm whales, but they are all still cetaceans.
super biology talk about whales and stuff in this video, perfect now Im more clever
Ville Lipiäinen is better than Cameron...he did this video. For some odd reason he will not receive those prices ,
however. Tuomas writes these masterpieces from his brilliant mind pretty much alone for NW members to perform. By the way...to me it looks like a whale skeleton, not body 10:36 but I am not a biologist.
I feel like an asshole pointing this out, but killer whales, in e of their name, are dolphins.
And still you can't pronounce Floor Jansen correctly...😂😂😂😂
The mixing is way off for me. The video/song is way too long. The song has no moments of "wow" for me (mainly because the mix is just awful). There are few redeeming qualities to this song which is frustrating since I had such high hopes for it.
