    I think as usual you are bang on the money with callum craig. It's such a shame because the man is quality. He's got the ability, a great attitude & obviously he fits with this team but we just can't go through the season with a striker who breaks down so often. If we can get £10-12m for him i think we have to take it. Totally agree with eddie that we won't get a callum wilson quality player for that kind of money but we are going to have to choose quantity over quality. All that said if we do sell him i will consider callum to have been a fantastic servant to the club when he was available & wish him well wherever he ends up. Cheers as always craig.

    Years ago I had a Ford Capri that I needed to do some work on and it would take a while, so I bought an old Alfa as a runaround for a hundred quid.
    The Alfa had holes in the floor, the interior was hardly palatial, but once the Capri was fixed, I saw no point in selling the Alfa from a financial point of view, because bang for buck it just gave me too much fun.
    If we sell Wilson the buyer is going to be 100% aware that he's only good for half a season at best, and his one in two record then translates to one in four - 10 goals a season, and the price we get will reflect that.
    It would make more sense to extend his contract and keep him.
    Isak could play as number one striker with Wilson as back-up / sub, and hopefully a bit of summer observation will show us that Minteh could do a job as and when required, maybe even ahead of Wilson.
    I appreciate the Eredivisie isn't the EPL, but the lad must be brimming with confidence and with Eddie around to coach him, he has to be worth a punt.
    Don't sell the Alfa. - for what you'd get selling it you won't come close to replacing it for the same money.
    Save your cash for another year, run the Alfa into the ground and splash out on an Aston Martin next year.

      But it's still an injury & what's more, yet another injury that's kept him out for weeks & weeks . Very sadly it's now dead men's shoes, every single player in our squad takes a place up that is absolutely vital to our future, not theirs . I love Callum but my goodness , even before these last 2 & 1/2 years when FFP, FSR have become imprinted on our brains , I found myself at least twice a season sighing and saying to my friends , here we go again , this will be another couple of months without Callum ! We couldn't really afford someone with that sick record then but we loved him , we're like that. We knew this would happen, we were warned we would lose players we really didn't want to lose &, for me, the first was Maxi & now it's Callum. Now I look and think, phew, at least it's not Bruno or Isak because, by next season at this time, if we're nowhere near getting back into the CL , it WILL be one or both of them ! Think of that , now that would be really tragic , with Callum we have to accept it's a natural progression ❤😢

    The conundrum is when fit he's a 1 goal every 2 games striker with the stats to back it up. How do you replace that without spending a load of cash or weakening the squad. Ideally we keep Wilson, guve him a year extension, and add a younger striker to the ranks

    • @andrewcharlton6080

      We can’t continue with 2 very injury prone strikers. Isak is the better striker and needs to be our first choice. We need a player who can be available a lot more than Wilson, somebody young who has potential like Sesko would be ideal.
      Wilson may score more goals per game than Sesko would initially but if Wilson is injured he’s not only not scoring but he’s also contributing to Isak being over used and increasing his injury risk.
      I belief we need to be investing in a young striker even if we decide to keep Wilson, the rumours are that Wilson doesn’t want that extra competition so let him leave and cash in now. If we can can £10-15m that’s money towards a new striker which we have to buy very soon anyway.

    • @robferriday9945
      @robferriday9945 Před měsícem +1

      It's also down to the player. Wilson is very competitive and won't want to be second or third choice striker. He'll want assured starts when he's fit. Been a great servant but I think it's best for both parties.

  • @sp.8632
    @sp.8632 Před měsícem +2

    I think it's misleading to crow about his strike rate and how good he is when he's fit because he's so rarely fit. Every season he regularly has spells out injured. As a squad with only 2 actual strikers, that puts a massive strain on the 1 remaining striker - which has adversely impacted Isak resulting in him having time out injured. If Wilson hangs around, it needs to be as a 3rd choice backup/competition option. He's never fit long enough to be the main man anymore. But if he isn't happy with that, then I think it makes more sense to sell and replace. But I think we need a new striker either way.
    My fear is in this morning's presser, Eddie seemed to be campaigning for Wilson to stay. Saying it would cost loads to replace him with a player of similar ability. But that depends when you compare - when he's on the treatment table ANY ability fit striker would be an improvement. I hope Eddie's player loyalty to his old friends don't derail next season due to again being stuck with injuries and selecting players in poor form.

    If it’s any less than 20 million then what’s the point. Keep him as a 2nd/3rd striker, limit his minutes + minimise the risk to injury = he’ll score goals. He’s been managed injury wise this season

  • @yossarian27
    @yossarian27 Před měsícem

    Wilson played 31 games last season and scored 18 goals. With less games he was rotated nicely with Isak and their playing time was managed properly.
    We all knew that to continue to manage them properly this season with the increased games the club needed a 3rd striker: ideally someone young who was happy to pick up 20-30mins here and there and learn from them both.
    Sadly, the club decided to collect full-backs instead and they have both suffered as a consequence.

    Just part of rebuilding and getting to where we want, if he was playing even half of the season id have him but the recovery rate is abysmal, every injury its at least 4-8 weeks and weve seen our squad depth not able to recover when both strikers are crocked. And we have to let Isak rest so his knee or hamstrings dont fall apart

    I still really don’t understand how NUFC appointing a new Director of Football has ANY bearing on how quickly they tie up a deal with Man U.
    The average PL Sporting Director earns about as much as Sean Longstaff, so there’s no issue with the club paying two salaries until the end of 2026. It really is immaterial in the grand scheme of things and they would be very happy to keep DA in the garden if it slows Man U’s progress.

    Completely disagree. First of all, you can't complain about squad places and highlight Wilson when the manager parks the players on the bench for the majority of the season (Krafth, Dummett, Ritchie, Manquilo and to a lesser extent Hall)). Wilson is not the reason squad places are limited. It is the manager who keeps players he has no intention of utilising.
    Secondly, Wilson having only started 8 matches still has scored 7 goals. He is not some dead wood you can discard. Gordon for all his brilliance has only scored 11 given the number of games he played. This club needs to add a striker, not sell a striker. Especially you would not get a like for like replacement for Wilson with his numbers. Mediocre striker Rasmus Højlund who costed around 72 mil pounds has only 7 goals to his name. Imagine what an effective striker would cost!!!
    As to your comments about lack of champions league qualification, we were in the champions league this year and we did nought. Many teams regularly play in the champions league but the winners are rarely first time champions. It is mostly the established teams who go further in the competition. If it just to collect appearance numbers then it is meaningless in the grand scale of things. It would be much preferable to win the competitions that we are actually in, rather than lament not making it to the Champions league. That is how Italy got the extra place of the champions league by going further in all competitions regardless of tier.

    They must sell him. He’s been good for us but as his whole career has been blighted by injury we need a striker that will get at least 30 games a season in and will score 15-20 goals. That’s gonna cost £50 million plus but it must happen along with a centre back. Then it’s keeping everyone else fit.

      Not necessarily. Getafe paid £7m for Arthur Dobryk. He's had a great season. Benfica paid £17m for Marcos Leonardo. We need to sign players from overseas

    He's looked poor this season when he's played. Definitely in a decline and time out doesn't help. I hope the board doesn't allow Howe to dictate incomings and outgoings because he seems to want to keep everyone. It's time to move on and actually win something, and you can't do that with a player who is lucky to play a quarter of the season.
