    NiSi now have a mini round lens hood with a filter... brilliant, completes the camera and make it dust and weather proof. Also the original lens cap still fits.

    I just discovered your channel. I'm loving it! I just purchased the X100V - I can't wait to start using it. I'm starting all over with photography as a hobby, I stopped for over 10 years.
    I'm taking a trip to Africa this summer, I picked up the X100V for the close range stuff and landscape type photos. Do I need to get a SLR style for the animals? I'm trying to figure out what I need to take and be minimal at the same time. Any suggestions is much welcomed.

    As an owner of the original X100, the F, and soon the V- I’d say I have my fair share of accessories over the years. Like you I prefer to have round lens hoods to follow the profile of the lens (JJC and Haoge). I only use Gordy’s lug wrist straps for the Fujis. And I found that using a soft shutter button provides a better tactile interface with the camera.

    Nice video! I have a lot of what you list here - the lens hood, the strap (I use a wrist strap, because I like to walk the streets ready to snap photos), the flash. However, I can’t get myself to buy the lens converter because to me (important part of this sentence!) the x100v is a fixed lens camera. It comes with a 35mm equivalent and the moment I add the converter, I add choice. Before getting out the door, I will be asking myself, am I going to go 35 or 28? So I’ll leave any other focal length to a future interchangeable lens camera. In June, no earlier - is what I keep telling myself.
    Anyway, yes. Nice video!

    2:30 that's so funny. My buddy has one on his x100 and I didn't get it at all. It's fine. But i've never felt I'm going to drop my own x100. I'm not sure if I've dropped any camera ever. Plus it's just an extra thing protruding from the camera and cramps or covers those top buttons. It gets in the way of the wheel which I use quite a bit. And get's in the way of the AFL/AEL know which I use to focus. To each their own, but i'd rather have the bubble level than a hot shoe. I don't use it a ton, but glad it's there and it looks really cool, and it actually does work as a level if you're doing some waist level shots.

  • @torinsall
    @torinsall Před 3 lety

    Always look forward to your videos.
    I totally agree with the Lensmate thumb grip and love that hinge. Also went with the Gariz half case...really nicely made.
    Disagree with you on filters...why does everyone who complains about filters say they " don't want to put a cheap filter over expensive glass". Nor do I...that's why I use a quality filter for my expensive glass. Also, it's much cheaper to replace a scratched filter than a scratched lens. ;-}
    Straps seem to depend on the use that day...I like good sling straps and wrist straps. Artisan & Artist silk straps and Gordy's leather straps are favorites. Peak Design is good.
    Have way too many bags, probably because the "perfect bag" hunt continues...the Think tank 30i you have looks good, so just ordered it. :-)
    And of course a soft shutter button is really nice to use...current favorite is JJC black metal w/blue leather top.
    Tried the jjc hood shaped like yours, but returned it bcs it requires the proprietary jjc adapter and won't work with the normal 100v adapters. Too bad, because I liked the hood.

  • @richardnugent7035
    @richardnugent7035 Před 3 lety +2

    Hey BP: regarding the filter: It seems to me that keeping a filter on the camera all the time would prevent dust from getting onto the sensor, would it not? As the lens moves in and out during focusing, isn’t a bellows effect produced that could suck dust inside? What is your experience in this regard?

    • @BoorayPerry
      @BoorayPerry  Před 3 lety

      Many people keep a filter on the camera for that reason. I owned three of these cameras and never had a dust problem but that doesn't mean that it's not a good idea to be precautious.

    the flash looks great - can you comment about the built in X100V flash?
    For flash im personally a fan of the idea of that one brand where you can pull the flash off making it wireless and use your other hand to direct the light at different angles as you please.
    have you used the tele conversion lens as well?
    is it possible for budget reasons get a 100F or older version to have left over budget for the conversion lens (S II)??

    • @BoorayPerry
      @BoorayPerry  Před 3 lety +1

      There's a video on my channel where I show how I use the built-in flash but the bottom line is I never use it unless I have no choice. I just don't like flat non-directional light.
      The x100f is a fine camera and buying that so that you save money for other things is a solid choice. But for me, the super sharp focus on the x100v and the tilt screen which enables me to shoot more easily from waste levels or over my head are such fantastic improvements that it's worth the upgrade.
