MADE A MISTAKE ON THE BUFFALO TRACE PRICE at 13:50 That price is for a 375ml, so we've gotta take back the prize for best price and give it to District Liquors for their $30 price! Thanks @OGbrick420 for pointing that out. Also, what we called the Booker's 2023-03 is actually the 2022-03. I guess sometimes you just see what you want to see! Haha!
All those expensive bottles in the window getting ruined by the sun. Crazy.
100%
Seriously. They have no idea what they are doing to them 😂
Evaporation is real baby. Just look at all those mini bottles you collect.
As a DC native.. the prices are insane because they can be. everyone there has money, and even the ones that don't do everything they can to look like they do, so they can charge whatever they want and it'll still get bought.
now i know where all of Virginia's allocated liquor ends up.
Definitely want to see a vid on your Jack Rose experience..
That one shop with all the Wellers, Pappys, BTACs...... Sitting in the freaking sunlight...... UGHHHH
Part of me always hopes that the stores who are charging outrageous prices for bottles eventually go out of business. It would serve them right.
It kills me to see these shops store those rare, expensive bottles right in the window, exposed to direct sunlight.
Came here for this comment. At those prices, those bottles will see some UV time in that museum window.
@@kolt.45they’re priced that high because they’re window aged 😂
Anyone stupid enough to pay those prices couldn’t taste the difference
I was thinking the same thing. If you're going to price gouge people, at least take care of the bottles properly. Unbelievable.
2:53 Thats a nice museum. At least they didn’t charge you an admission fee 😂
These videos really make me appreciate how GOOD the bourbon market is in Detroit.
I love the hunting videos! I would like to see a video on the pours at Jack Rose please.
I love these hunting videos!
Also, I'm totally an investor in Whiskey and Whiskers.
Thanks, Adam! We have a short 3 hour presentation for you then.
Would love to see more from your time at Jack Rose
Is anyone else screaming at the the screen, "No!!!!! Don't put that in the window!!! Sunlight ruins bourbon!!!!!!"?
Yeah, exactly. I would not buy a bottle that came from the window display. I wondered if they take them our of the window at the end of the day, too. Would seem very tempting for a smash and grab, unless they had bars that get pulled down at closing, but don't remember seeing any.
@@ItsBourbonNight I never even thought of the "smash and grab" possibility. I wonder too! But yeah that gives me a sick feeling in my stomach.
@@ItsBourbonNighttheres a store near here that doesnt block out any of their FULL PANEL WINDOWS and half their product looks sunfaded. I dont shop there and encourage others not to. I asked why they dont block out the windows while i was there and they said "theyre tinted" like a slight tint on the window does anything.
@@LeatherDaddy97 OMG! No words! I'm glad you asked. At least they know the dangers.Oh man! That's just crazy to me!
@@rogerpingleton9199 they knew, they just didnt care
Great production/editing Chad! And cheers to Sara for the "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" reference and the $.50 word "plebe". And YES, a Jack Rose pour video would be loverly. Because Chad doesn't have enough editing to do already. 😁
This comment is before the video but this video has to be fascinating! I lived in DC for 3 years and the best hidden gem bourbon finds were liquor stores in sketchy areas. Everything on the hill was usually overpriced...
Store 2 is a museum, not a store. Even asking $100 for KC 12.... $120 for Mckenna 10... yeah, even if they had something reasonable I'd never give that kind of store a penny of my money.
The New Girl reference at the bakery was perfect
That Shenk's wasn't a terrible price for a pretty rare bottle. That was also a 22-03 not 23-03
Love the video Chad and Sara! I would love to see a video of your pours (even if only for your patrons). You all are lucky. The last time I was in KY I was able to compare the Sazerac and Brown Foreman versions of Early Times Bottled In Bond at a Liquor Barn. I love liquor stores who offer pours!
I like when y’all do bourbon hunting!!
Jack Rose is my favorite spot in the city
I am about visit Washington Statr next month, so I got super excited when i saw the title. 10min, I realized its Washington DC😂. Still watched the whole thing , great content you guys .
Guys,
This was the best Bourbon Hunting video anyone has ever done.
No for real.
Great video.
🥃🔥😎🇺🇲💪
Thank you!! We’ll take it!
oh ya, hunt videos are my favorite!
Always enjoy your content, thank you for doing what you do! Absolutely do a video of the pours you enjoyed while in DC. So many of those stores were ridiculous, I'd be embarrassed to own a shop that was trying to charge some of those prices.
Perfect timing on this video. I'll be in the DC area next week
Thank you for showing/sharing the outrageous prices in D.C. Great video. I live in MD and find my best prices in OH when I get there. Yes, please post a pours video.
2022-03 Bookers It looks like a fun trip. You picked up some good ones for reasonable prices. THanks for taking us along. Cheers!
Glad to see another Hunting video from you guys. I live in Northern VA and Eagle Rare and Buffalo trace can NEVER be found in our VA ABC stores. At least know I know if I want to make the drive and deal with the traffic and parking I can at least find them at a decent price. Thanks for all the hard work you do.
Great content, I love these hunting videos! I live about 2 hours north of DC and have been considering making the trek. Now that I have a better idea which stores to check out I have no excuse not to! Will probably visit Jack Rose as well. Thanks!
I worked in DC in the 90s, so I recognized a few of your locations, but not the stores since I wasn't into liquor that decade.
I love it when you two go hunting in a fresh region. I had to unhinge my jaw at the Pappy and Parker and Stagg and Weller lineups routinely on display at the first store you ventured into. The effect mercifully wore off over time. I always knew DC was a boss market for whiskey. Startled as a Wisconsinite to hear how many things you don't see on the shelves in the motherland of Kentucky. The bourbon game is so strange! We have a Honeypot in Madison which sells Blanton at $129, so good for them, but I am over it as a house staple these days. Totally agree with your Buffalo Trace price assessment. It's plentiful in southern Wisconsin in the 28-32 range, and my lush brethren have adopted it after graduating from years of Korbel consumption. Like Blanton's, I'm over it and on to new, fun bourbons. Fortunately, there's always more to discover and I know my favorite podcasters will get to it all in due time. Five stars as always for the work you two do.
I used to live in Arlington- just across the Key Bridge. Many of the stores were not there when I moved out of the area 12 years ago. The prices will be set based on the income of the area…which is ridiculous.. great video. Keep them coming.
Great video. Love these. The Ragged Branch has a great line; I’ve got 4 bottles (including their Secretariat finished one). My favs are Cowboy Cut and Secretariat.
Drinking my OGD Bonded and shaking my head. Not at you guys or your selections, at the other Prices. :)
Granted there are some outrageous prices in DC, but I can find bottles I want there.
I work around the corner from Barmy and find most items are overpriced, but there are a few good buys. I’d been eyeing that Larceny C921 myself. Too bad about S&R! I usually have more luck there.
Is C921 that great? I’ve been able to order C922, A123, and B523 directly from VA ABC for $60.
Please do a video about the pours you had in the restaurant.
Man, for once I consider myself lucky, grabbed an EC Toasted for $60 last night. Great video and amazing to see all those bottles sitting there just waiting for taterdom to kick in! Cheers!
Love it and that's my challenge every trip to KY..bottles I want to purchase but realizing I need load them on plane for the trip home.
Thanks for the video. Went to Jack Rose and picked up the Peerless DO SiB. Also hit Dupont and got a Smoke Wagon Uncut The Younger and a MM BEP.
I’m so excited for your Charlie’s Batch Bookers review! Seems all the whiskey tubers have been dodging that one other than Mash and Drum. Charlie’s batch is one of, if not, the best bookers I’ve had in awhile.
I finally found an Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel reasonably priced @ $59. Don't sleep on those Glenallachie 12 & 15 @ about $60 & $80, great Scotch from Master Blender Billy Walker. Seems like there is a lot of BT stock these days just collecting dust @ crazy prices. I hope the flippers don't miss their window after the expansion stuff comes along ;-)
I tried Bookers 2022-02 last fall and loved it, but they weren't being sold anywhere anymore that I could find. Then was on vacation at cape cod last week and found one sitting on a shelf at a tiny liquor store for 90.99! Snagged it immediately
Great bottle hunt, thanks for bringing us along. Prices really are getting nuts for almost everything.
Did anyone catch that subtle "New Girl" reference with the cookie?
More of these type videos plz
This was a fun video! 🎉 I think I like your bourbon hunting videos best.
Charlie's batch my favorite bottle this year thus far. Great pick up!
Ha! A video in my stomping grounds. Neat. 😊 I'm surprised you didn't swing by Modern Liquors, but there really are just so many stores in the district.
Yeah, wish we had more time to get around to more stores.
Loved your hunting video. We were just in Kentucky and bought too much. If you’re ever in the Buffalo area, we’d give you pointers where to go or gladly be your guides. Keep up the great work!
Every time I enjoyed a dram of the "unreplaceable" stuff I own I realize I lost a dram of the "unreplaceable" stuff I own(ed)😭.
from Maine where it is state controlled for liquor prices, no matter how big or small of a store everything is same price! I recently picked up an Eagle Rare for $40 and $65 for Blanton!
Hahahaha, DC is the Wild West of liquor sales! Great selection and terrible prices. That’s my stomping grounds and I rarely by bourbon in the city.
Those Kilkerran 8 and that Longrow Red 15 at 7:29 😍(yeah I know, they're not bourbons, but they are awesome scotchs and hard to find).
I love these bourbon hunting videos, thanks.
I just found an Eagle Rare last weekend in SoCal for $80. FIrst time I’ve seen it in a LONG time, so I grabbed it! Sipping it now!
It crazy how distribution works with whiskey. Buffalo Trace and Eagle rare always available here in California. My local grocery stores have BT year round and my Target has KC 12 year for $60.
I can’t believe these prices. Screw that.
In San Diego, I just bought Buffalo Trace for $18 750ml. Lots of inventory. Also the Bookers 2023-01 for $99 if I bought 5 other bottles. Cheers.
After seeing the prices, I'm glad our liquor stores in Idaho are state run so no retail markup... got a 1.75ml Buffalo Trace today for $50.83 (after tax). The selection may not be amazing, but they do get some cool stuff on occasion and allocated releases regularly
Local Drinking group about an hour south of DC. Wish we knew you were coming. We could have hosted you. Next time you come I will take you to A. Smith Bowman for a tour of Sazarac's test production distillery.
Please show the Jack Rose pours video!
Thanks for the good video and it all depends on where you buy in the states because prices fluctuate as we all know.
Plus one for Jack Rose.
You guys make the best bourbon hunting videos.
Thank you!
Thanks, great video...
Thanks for this cool one folks and definitely bring on a Jack Rose pours video!
Lets see those pours! Great visit and tours...but those prices! Hard to get much down in GA too, but when I can get Buffalo or Eagle Rare it is a bit cheaper!
Fun to see what people from kentucky think about dc stores! Surprised that dc has more selection than kentucky. I thought kentucky would by default be the bourbon capital. I now buy more from online than visit liquor stores. More niche bottles for cheaper.
Those prices are absolutely bananas. So much cheaper on the west coast. Buffalo for $60?! I can get it for $20 at a normal grocery store. Oof.
I was recently in Salem Oregon and picked up a Blantons sb for 64.99 and 2 eagle rare for 38 a piece great hunting video as always
Looks like DC is a great place to find Bourbon! Any store that has floor bottles is my kind of place!
6:09 W L Weller Centennial, the inspiration for the 60/40 OWA 107/Weller 12 "poor man's". 6:25 Martin Mills
Wish I could have went to the Sagamore pick. Glad to know I can go deep into DC and find some stuff.
Hey you two. Love the channel and the hunting vids. I gasped when I saw the Navasos Palazzi Bota Punta next the Eagle Rare at 3:55 of your video. It is my special occasion whisky. I'm a bourbon guy, but this stuff is my favorite. It's pricey, and the only whiskey I'll buy over $100. I get the OK from the wife since I only drink it with special guests. Very hard to find, only 900 bottles produced each year. Would love to hear your take on it sometime.
Just found your channel. Enjoying the content and chemistry you both have. More of a scotch drinker but opening up to bourbon 👍👍
Awesome! Welcome in, make yourself at home!
I’ve ordered from the DuPont store a couple times (including a john j bowman for 60 bucks) and they’ve shipped with no issues.
It’s been terribly hot up here in the dmv. I felt kinda good that someone from outside of dc actually says it’s hot
There are so many foreign diplomats, lobbyists, aides and businesspeople that are in DC regularly that they can charge whatever they want and it'll eventually get bought. And most of the locals are rich too.
Seen the Hirsch Single Barrel. Have a 6 year Willett Juice. Great Bottle. Also KC 12 and BT at local Walmart for fair prices.
Found KC12 in Massachusetts for $64 while on vacation. Got 1 for drinking while there and another to bring home. Don't see very often in GA.
My neck of the woods. VA ABC has Blantons and ER at almost every drop. You should have visited MD, lots of store picks and better prices. 1 West prices are nuts but people with more money than sense do buy there...like Congressmen lol!
Just bought the Knob Creek 12yo for $59.99 in New Jersey. Has become a favorite.
I was in DC this week. Had a shot of old Forester's birthday. Great. Also went to a liquor store that had the birthday for $1500😂 and Stagg for 300.
Haha those prices make no sense! Stagg for $300 I could see, but not $1500 for Bday!
@@ItsBourbonNight yep. They had a lot of nice bottles with price to match.
Wow, some pretty incredible museums you went to. Best deal was the BEP
Shoutout to Shawn and Keith at District Liquors!!! great owners and probably the best store in DC in my opinion
I get that knob 12 all day for 59.99$ here in Massachusetts! Love it.
The second stop was right next to the Ritz Carlton in Georgetown. Of course, those will be overpriced or any place in Georgetown. There is a place in NE DC with a good selection at reasonable markups.
So funny how random places across the country have different things. I can find KC12 in Missouri all the time and heaven hill products in Arizona. But never everything everywhere :)
Didnt know tin cup made a 14 year. I've had the normal and the 10 year. Liked the normal more, but I'd for sure try the 14. Plus, shot glass included!
Friendly note, those bookers were 2022 not 2023 :) So that is why they were over priced.
Also, wish I could find any Bookers near me...
Love that you stuck a New Girl reference in there. Lol. I got you cookie.. 😂
Potomac wine and spirits is great! Met a rep there for Katadyn Creek - excellent product!
Don't sleep on the cvs's in Kentucky. I found a larceny bp, ECBP,ECT and a McKenna 10 in the one across from the Sealbach
If you are looking for a decent bar go across the river to alexandria to virtue and grain. Usually something on their bourbon whiskey list for a fair price. Had JD12 for 20 they also have great cocktails and poutine fries. Right up the street is mias italain too
I would love to see the pours. Enjoying your channel.
Ceiling whiskey .. sounds like a T shirt to me!
Weller Special Reserve Green bottle for $99.00?!!!! I just paid $28.00 for that bottle at my store here in KC. Sick!!! Eagle Rare I paid $45.00 bucks at my store and they almost never have it but when they do, they don't gouge their customers. This is just insane.
Being from SE D.C. makes this vid so satisfying as a bourbon enthusiast!!! Excellent job!!! Did yall check out the spot on Mc Arthur Blvd?
🤫😅
Thanks! Nope, we didn't get to check that spot out.
that buffalo trace @24.99 was a 375mL
Was it? Oh man, must have missed that.
@@ItsBourbonNight yeah the 375 was 24.99, the 750mL was 39.99 and the 1.75 liter was 79.99 i think.
