Thank you so much for subscribing! Im glad you are liking the channel so far. I will do my best to keep the quality (and sometimes not-so-quality) content coming. New docking video coming this Sunday morning! Cheers!
Thank you for the video. As a spectator it was weird to drive backwards all the time. In my opinion, the view was completely missed. It would be much easier to understand what you are doing at the helm if you showed us the helm and throttle in forward view. May I ask if you can use next time a head or chest camera. Thx
Thank you for your input and feedback. I will keep working on better angles and prospectives to provide you guys the best views possible. I have a new video coming out this Sunday, hopefully that view will be more to your liking
@@ElevateYacht I think that during docking the best view you ever can get is to get drone above you and that's it. One camera showing what you are doing with the joystick etc. Another camera from drone. And we will have perfect view what is what :)

Also, love the background and surroundings, I'd love to meet Chicago one day but for now I'm visiting Chicago through your videos. Thanks for the upload. Hey! Thank you very much for watching and for the kind words. I’m glad you enjoy the videos! We have a big spring and summer coming with lots of new boats and detail services, so hang in there a little longer and we’ll have new content soon! Cheers!
Rudder? Which rudder? I think it has Zeus pod drives, which also explains your steering wheel action when approaching the dock. Very informative and well done video. Thanks for being your co driver. 👍🏻
You are correct, this boat does have pod drives not shafts/rudders. They do have and call it a rudder indicator, but you’re right, it should be called a “pod indicator” in this situation, as it shows me the direction the pods are facing. Good catch. Thank you for watching and commenting!
have i seen the Yacht you parked behind before on ur channel? i think it is from the solo docking 60' yacht vid. this was awsome tho, pls make more vids like these

I’d been working part time as a captain and managing a few yachts for a small group of clients for years and while sitting at a desk job I didn’t enjoy I said screw it, and jumped in full force in building my business. One of the better decisions I’ve made 😂 and there is no looking back. I’ll take working by butt off on a boat over sitting at a desk any day
@@ElevateYacht I hear ya. I was a deck hand on a ferry in san Francisco Ca when I was in college. To this day it was one of the funniest Jobs I ever had. I had a chance to get my captains license , but went on to play pro sports. Wish I would have gotten it in my spare time. When you're young you can not always see the opportunities. I'll be watching out for you.
I too didn’t think to get my license until a little later on - had I gotten mine right at 18, I might have been traveling the world on a single vessel. The life of a full time captain isn’t easy with a young family. I have been lucky to pivot a little and begin scaling the management and Yacht sales side of the business which affords more time locally. Still take the distance trips when I can of course :)
I thought that the more maneuverable vessel had to give way. Asking an oil tanker or cargo ship to give way to a sail boat is a non starter and will end up with the yacht inspecting the keel of the bigger boat.
You are correct. Thank you for clarifying. I was referring more specifically to that situation between the sailboat and my vessel. Both of those two vessels are lower in the pecking order when it comes to vessels restricted in their ability to maneuver, and other vessel types as described in the Rules of the Road. Thanks for watching!
What’s the time between shifting into gear and actually reaching full idle thrust on these particular systems? The boat I’m used to takes about 2 seconds so it looks funny to me the way you jotted the joysticks around lol
It’s honestly pretty much immediately. The second you start moving the joystick to any direction, the engines start reacting. The smaller the movement, the slower the thrust. Perfect for very small corrections and precision. Thank you for watching and for your question!
This may differ in different areas but typically locks are on 14 and tow boats are on either 13 or 16. In areas that locks are very close together, like on the TennTom river, the locks will alternate channels so they avoid confusion in communication. Thank you for watching and for the great question!
This vessel has pod propulsion - not the standard shaft driven vessels. The propellers are on full 360° rotating pods, so when you use the joystick for docking, the pods work independently of each other and rotate to thrust in the specific direction needed to make the vessel do exactly what you’re asking of it. Bow thruster is still useful for small corrections around the dock or whatnot. Check out my Vessel Survey video for an under vessel view of these pods!
This vessel’s owners do choose to pull in forward. In our harbors, you can bow or stern in as you wish. Main reasons for this vessel to bow in are the use of their tender while in the slip (launching off their swim platform), and views of the Chicago skyline in the background. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Is there any sort of negative attitude from boat captains towards using the joystick control? I've seen so many videos where a perfectly good joystick has been available, yet remained unused. I'd have been on the joystick for the Zeus pods from the moment I entered the harbor. Of course, I'm not a boat captain and have no idea how to drive a boat like this in the first place. It just seems so much easier to point a joystick where you want to go rather than working the drives in and out of gear while punching the bow thrusters and using the wheel.
Honestly, I hear from a lot of captains that dog things like bow thrusters and stuff. Some think it’s cheating or it’s too easy. Sure, it’s best to fully understand how to operate a vessel simply with the throttles and not with the “extra” tools like joysticks or thrusters, in the event that any of those tools were to stop working. But the way I see it, if there are tools at your disposal that makes docking easier and safer, yes you should use them. With pod driven vessels, they don’t have rudders, so they are not as reactive if you try docking with just the throttles and not with the joystick. For me, bow or stern thrusters are only to be used for small corrections at or near the dock. I see a lot people using them for 30 seconds at a time to make full turns - that is excessive. But at the end of the day, it’s about getting your vessel into the slip safely, so however you do it is up to you 🤷🏼♂️ Hope this helps! Thank you for watching and for the great question!
@@ElevateYacht Wow, thank you for the in depth answer. That does clear things up for me.
