I checked out Cassette Tape and really enjoyed it! The audio was great and the use of color took it to another level! Loved it
ahhhhhh Iâm so happy you loved it! Spend so much time perfecting it and Iâm glad that you enjoyed it. Especially the sound, I love doing some work⊠fun fact a lot of the sound at the end of the short was re-created from scratch!đ
Happy New Year Kaleb! Right from the bat, this is the best assessment of BwXX period. Kudos.
Happy new year! Iâm so glad you liked the video! Iâm glad I did the stock proud
Great video mate, enjoyed Cassette Tape too, not what I was expecting, sucked me in and set me up, really made me laugh! The stock in 16mm looks fantastic and the colour sections were just gorgeous.
Ahhhh Iâm so happy you enjoyed the short film! That makes me happy!!!! And Iâm definitely glad you laughed. đ„łđâșïž
These are super clean shots. I think B&W really suits every scenario (except for maybe sunsets?)!
Thatâs not all that far off. I think you might be right hahaha
Love this!!!! BwXX is such an amazing stock just it can be $$$. Thank you and can't wait until the next video.
Yeah youâre right youâre definitely right⊠But like those results. Haha you should shoot in Super8!
Buy 100ft roll and bulk load it yourself, depending on how much you can get the bulk roll you could save a fair bit
Cassette Tape is really great! I'd love to see a video about the process of shooting and editing your short films!
Aw thanks!!!! I wish I had more BTS of this short ⊠next one!!! PromistâŠ. I would love to do a video like that
Happy New Year Man!!
This video makes us wanna go and shoot some BwXX rn!
1:59 Nice mug bro! đ
Hahah I was wondering if you were going to catch that! đđ
Happy New Year!
Great video! đ I donât know what it is but super 8 makes me all tingly inside
Oh yeah. I love making people all tingly!!!!!!! đ
Cassette Tape đ đ€Ł. XX is the business! Thanks for sharing đ
Double X is so so so good. Love it so much!!!! Glad you dig the video.
@@BadFlashes It scans really well too. I dig that!
Right!!! It really does in every format.
I have bought some of this films, but ever used. Next time, I will try with it.Thank you for sharing!!!
No prob yo!!!! You should totally try it out! As you can see itâs pretty great stuff all around!!! đ€©
I've never shot BWXX before. I recently bought a 120 roll that's waiting for me in the friiiidge. I'm excited !
Do it!!!!!!!
Thanks so much for this awesome content! Just discovered your channel and already loving it! :3 hugs
Yay!!!! Iâm so pumped you enjoy it đ„°
Thanks for tuning in! đ€©đ€©
Such an interesting video!
Awesome. Iâm totally glad! đ
Yes...you and Jason should do a VIDEO podcast (w/guests) You two both make great visual YT videos
đ„°đ„°đ„°đ„° love that people are into that idea!!!!!! Thanks for the love.
I shout some BWXX over Christmas, Iâm even more hyped for the results now đ€đŒ
Yesssss!!!! Did you shoot 35 or 120?
@@BadFlashes 35mm!
I put that fish through my AE-1 with bad light seals đ
Solid! Haha
Never shot in xx before but will give it a try now!
Haha you totally shouldâŠ. Need a loaner camera đ
dope channel man
Ah thanks yo! Glad to have you around đđŒđđŸ
I love thisss. I also have been looking at getting a super 8 camera recently. I also love the cinestill bw film, so good in my opinion. Hope we get to see the video when it's all done! That highlight retention is insane. Ah, the mamiya 7, goals for 2022 I think. Need to sell some gear first... goodbuy F4? Pentax 645? who knows. I also like tmax and triX, just shot one roll of each and compared to the cinestill, they're all great bw films. Love that shot under the bridge wow. Colorado maybe? Like on the way back from KC? or To KC? Completly wrong? probably. Oh I see a BBQ, so maybe Texas? lol Have a good one dude.
Dude! Super eight is so much fun. It can get a little pricey but it is totally worth it for some things! I definitely wanna shoot more this year. Mam7 always a good way to go love that camera⊠but I get it little pricey. And now we are still just in California didnât go anywhere super Cray Cray đ
I like that you went with the zeiss cp.2 for your short film, it really shows the crispiness of the 7222. Do you consider doing some 16mm 500t content in the future? or maybe in 35mm to go full baller mode.
Hahah thanks! I love cp.2 lenses so much! They are great and super light weight. Iâve shot a bunch of 500t for 16mm. My short stadium (on this channel) was shot 500t ⊠and the color portions of Cassette Tape were also shot 500t⊠I love that stock so much. I have more cans in my fridgeâŠ. And as soon as I can get my hand on some 35mm both film and camera⊠you know damn well Iâm doing it !!!!! đ
Will be checking out the stadium short, keep up the good work!
Oh awesome. Let me know what you think!!!!! :)
Damn 2 in da morning đ”đ”đ”
I know I know. It miss uploaded haha
Iâve shot this on both 135 and 120. Came to the same conclusion, at 120 itâs pretty close to TMax100. Havenât tried it with D96, only D76 (1-1). Due to the longer development time, with D76, prefer TMax 120. But at 135 prefer XX
Nice thank you for the little insight!
I think we as a Species have perfected B&W film. Tri-X, HP5, TMAX, BWXX, Fomapan - Name one 'bad' B&W film. Shit, even the economically priced and always sold out Ultrafine Extreme is just brilliant.
ok, Bergger Pancro - But i'm willing to bet it's just my choice of Developer (HC110)
Hahah you know. You might be onto something.
Have you ever checked out duplication/intermediate film? Namely Kodak 5242, 5244 or 2242? If not, any chance you'll try them?
Not much covered on them on YT, exception of Diego Amador, who's freezing his nips in Alaska rn. His videos suggest he does not Mclove them, so no xhance of redo from.
Ok. May have exaggerated. There's a couple videos on low ISO in general, forgetting I've seen them all. Forgot to say, love the vid too! đđ
Hahaha I have some of that film actually I just havenât donât a video on it yet hahah but this year with some testing Iâll definitely get around to it so stay tuned. :)
Thanks so much for the love đ„°
@@BadFlashes Yay! No doubt, my guy! đ„° đ
The shot at 7:49 is killer!
Oh thanks. Iâm a fan of that one as well!!! đ
I really wanna get into motion picture film, and Double X seems so dope, just motion picture film is very expensive - so if I ever got into it, it'd have to be a special project!
Yeah. I get that. Could roll your own. Is the stuff from FFP expensive? I havenât looked.
@@BadFlashes I donât know actually, Iâll check their prices outâŠ
@@BadFlashes oh and btw, I enjoyed cassette tape a lot and love the way you use black and white for the present and colour for the past! Great stuff!
Ahh Iâm so glad you liked it, that makes me happy :)
Hi, is the 35mm film i use lately, i push it to 400, i love it.
have ever made a review on the Apx 400( new ), it is a film that i also like a lot
I havenât done a review on that yetâŠ. But maybe I should look into it :)
I subscribed after âsexy 62â ainât gonna lie
đ!!!! Love it!!!! Thanks :)
Hi Caleb! Did you shoot double x 16mm with a yellow filter (Y8) and/or expose 125/100 asa instead of 250/200? Thanks đ
Nope we shot it at 200 no yellow filter.
Hope that helps
@@BadFlashes Yes for sure you help me. I've shot two projects on double x, and get some tests: double x it's a great film but had zero tolerance to pull/push process. The better way it's to shoot as nominal. đ And I've seen on "Cassette tape" and works. Thanks again đ
Of course. Good luck with the project!!!! :)
5222 was my main film for a while with K400
One roll of 400ft 5222 is sitting in my refrigerator and this is the last one I have.
It is sad that I can't go back to LA and can't buy 400fts anymore /:
Itâs so so good. Well maybe you might have to order some from B&H or something haha đ
@@BadFlashes 5222 is out of stock. Isnât it tho? Lol
Oh ummmm I actually donât know đŹ
Maybe it is âŠ. đł
Hey, Caleb. I was wondering if you had any opinions on how Double X compares to other b&w motion picture films. Like Lomography's b&w stocks. I read all their Kino films are also re spooled motion picture films. I recently got some D96 and I need to pick a stock. Thanks!
Unfortunately I havenât tried any black and white Lomo films ⊠sorry đą
@@BadFlashes It's quite alright! One more question about Double X though, I havent been able to find the answer online. How much thicker than normal film is it? I know that some Cine films are a little stiff and some don't recommend their use on point and shoots and so on. What about this one?
I never really had an issue with its thickness. I think you would be fine ⊠I think lol
Mr. Bad Flashes! I think you inspired me to get some more Double X 16mm and shoot a film now!đ
But what is a good way for funding a short film? I want to start shooting more short films on super 8 and 16mm but funds are *cough *coughđ
Yeah. Thatâs the hard thing for sure. Iâve finessed some shorts on kickstarter before. And the others Iâve just saved up. But DOUBLE X is great
@@BadFlashes Gotchaa okay! And yessir I agree, its like you can't go wrong with it because of the look and unique grain structuređ€. Have you shot this stock with any color filters by any chance?đź
Nope I havenât. Sorry :/
Tri-X is kind of hit and miss for me, but something about XX hits a sweet spot every time.
Oh hells yeah it does!!!! Iâm so into it. :)
The super 8 shots with a white sprocket hole means it was reversed?
Negative film always has to be inverted or reversed. Yep
I print 7222 onto same or 3378
đ„łđ„łđ„łđ„łđ€©
Kodak should be smart and release this as their own film, I know Kodak Alaris and Eastman are technically different companies but CineStillâs getting a lot of my money that would go to Kodak if they sold this film. So In a roundabout way thank you CineStill for the film and you for making a killer video about it.
Completely unrelated but I have an Against Me! Tattoo as well. So I think youâre cool just for that. Do you have a favorite song? Mine is Disco Before the Breakdown. Short story long thank you for being a cool dude and keep shooting people! (With your cameras)
Yeah I feels ya⊠Iâm not sure whatâs happening over there. But Iâm grateful for the lovely peeps at CineStill. Iâm glad you like the video! It was a fun one to make :)
Also thatâs dope!!!! Whatâs the tattoo like?!?!?!? Disco before the breakdown is so raw. I love that one!!!!! Picking a fav song is so so hard. Itâs really what Iâve been vibing with lately. But black me out might be my pick. :)
Thanks for watching and digging the channel!!!!
@@BadFlashes I got technically 2, itâs the lightning bolts from the label of As the Eternal Cowboy. They are on my right forearm one a solid black and one an outline. They are on either side of a heart made to be a bomb. Itâs another musical reference this time to The Clash and their song Spanish Bombs. Music and photography (and I guess a few peopleâŠ) are really the only things that make me want to keep on keepin on. So in a roundabout way your tattoo and photography are why Iâm alive. Thatâs weird. But Iâm ok with that. Thanks Caleb!
Listen to Spanish Bombs if you havenât, itâs on London Calling.
@@BadFlashes oh I forgot, Black Me Out is a hell of a song good choice!
Haha itâs like you dove into my musical loves. Of course I know Spanish Bombs ⊠The Clash was my first love ⊠those are pretty awesome tattoos by the sound of them! đ€©
Iâm glad to be apart and help out in any small way! Thanks for the love and support!
@@BadFlashes I figured you would know the song. I might be wrong but Iâve found that people who like the kind of music we both do tend to be good people. Thanks for talking to me, youâre a cool cat (also your cat is cool too).
May I suggest if you havenât checked them out yet that you listen to the band SQUID. Their first album came out last year and itâs my pick for album of the year. Oh also to keep the clichĂ© tattoos comin Iâve got the Black Flag bars underneath the heart and lightning bolts. All these tattoos are old I got them in like 2007/08. Iâm ramblinâ but anyway thank you for the cool content and for being an upstanding human in a world filled with shit bags.
Fairly certain Night of the Living Dead was shot on this film.
Yeah I can see that too!
So key take out from this is that BwXX is a great film stock, but not much different to t-max or triX in 120 with the difference being evident in the smaller stocks ... interesting. Also does that mean 800T is actually a iso500 stock? Better to shoot at iso500?
Yes 800 is actually 500âŠ. I think CineStill rates the 500 T stock at 800 because of the removal of the ramjet⊠Makes it a bit more sensitive at least thatâs what Iâm up to understand
@@BadFlashes Good to know. On a side note, "The Remjets" would be a good name for a super group. Specialised element that needs to be removed for normal society, but when uncovered produces amazing outcomes ......
Anyway, keep up the brilliant content! Left a comment with Jason buy think the podcast would be a brilliant idea! Combining your combined story telling abilities in a series style podcast would be fantastic.
Oh thanks Iâm glad you dig the podcast idea weâve been kicking around for sometime but just havenât got around to it. :)
I believe it says on the 800T packaging that itâs designed to be shot at 500 outside and in daylight but 800 for inside/artificial light!
Indeed your right. Daylight with an 85b filter

1st?
0:28 haha, bite me, human. No, actually, let me bite your nasty finger.
BwXX looks amazing, might even try B&W. My first roll of film was FP4+ (and also my last B&W film since then ).
I haven't grown to like it yet, or maybe I suck at making good pictures in B&W. Not that I can in colour, but.. Yeah, self doubt is new sexy.
Hahaha I feel you on the black-and-white front. It took me a while to really understand what I liked in a black-and-white image and even how to take a good black-and-white image⊠Not saying that I canât either. But give it a try something that has contrast inherently built into it is a good start :)
