Happy birthday, Juliette ❤ Detrucci, Juliette was the one who introduced me to Eivor and I immediately fall in love with her voice. This is so beautiful. She reminds me of Sarah Brightman, Lisa Gerrard and Enya. You should do Trøllabundin by her next.

I know I'm watching a reaction, but I got goosebumps. Eivør's voice never failed to amaze me. This is my favourite performance of her. So ethereal and you painted an incredible picture of her singing on top of the ocean like a siren. Trøllabundin is a great one from her too. Happy birthday to the lovely lady who requested this.

I like the pictures in your mind as you listen to this. I, too, feel something much bigger than a "relationship song". It feels like it's touching "The Mystery" and our longing for that, whatever it means to each of us. What a joyful reaction - I'm sharing it on my Facebook page!

Thank you so much! You made me happy. This is my favourite from Eivør (and she's a solo artist, not a band 😁). I know you'd enjoy this because I know how much you like folk elements in songs and they remind you of home. Haha I actually put this in my stargazing + meteor shower watching playlist 😆 Beautiful reaction, Detrucci. It did leave you speecless eh? And thumbs up for the Panda shirt! 🐼

I want to go meteor shower watching, the last time I went I had the perfect day and it was dry....but i looked up and the sky was pure filled with nothing but cloud...I layed there for 4 hours waiting for them to disappear.... sad face :(
But it was still fun haha

You may know this dude in Avengers called Thor. And havn is "harbour" in Scandinavian. So Thors Harbour on the Farao Islands (or Færøynene as we call them).
She is a trained jazz singer from Iceland, but here she is vocalising a lot in the Norwegian traditional vocalizing called "Kuling" (that one also find in western Sweden, since we have been united or not for centuries here in Scandinavia). A lot of Scandinavian, even pop music, pulls on this tradition - including the traditional verse-structures and tonal-systems (that one can kind of hear also in traditional medieval music - such as Gregorian chanting. Some think it sounds Celtic, and when one dive down into historical roots more than 1000 years old, there certainly are shared evolution.
In addition, she is invoking "Joik" structure a couple of time - from the Scandinavian Sami culture.
Once one is aware of these Scandinavian musical roots, one can even find them in the harmonies of Abba - building on traditional "Dorian modes" in pop music that back in the 1970s when every pop-song was written in the upbeat major modes.
This is why I think so many people get a sense of melancholy from even modern Scandinavian pop-music.
I suggest everyone to listen to the Electronica geniuses of Røyksopp's "Poor Leno" after just having listtened to Eivør and hear them using the same Dorian themes in "upbeat" Scandinavian electronica almost 2 decades ago czcams.com/video/sPG6OQy2iwI/video.html&ab_channel=WarnerMusicFrance
So different - but when you are aware - there is a common "vibration" in there. It is centuries old Scandinavian folk-music roots popping up in pop-music.
Try going back to Aha "Take on me" - the happiest poppiest song of the mid-80s. Go and listen to it and wonder what sticks out. It is written in a minor (Dorian) scale as a backdrop.
These days most pop-music runs in minor scales (just think of Adele) - but most are in flat minor. Listen to
Next time you think "this sounds a bit Nordic - think about this.
Now check out Helvegen by Waardruna ("reconstructed" viking music) czcams.com/video/FnkTuHP9q3o/video.html&ab_channel=wardruna or Aurora herself doing "through the eyes of a child" stripped czcams.com/video/CFzExUN1N8I/video.html&ab_channel=iamAURORAVEVO
    Listen to the harmonics.
This is the reason you find "Viking" in so much of Nordic pop-music.
If you really want to dive deep - Scandinavia has a vibrant traditional folk-music scene. But it also has a scene of taking care of music so old that no composer is identified outside the concept of "trad."
This link leads you to a song sung for Edvard Grieg (the composer) in the region where I grew up. It is called "Gjendines bånsull" and it is certainly of pre-protestant origin czcams.com/video/EDOHj_CXDp0/video.html&ab_channel=Vikingskog
If you are musically inventive you can hear how this voice can be overlayed on Scandi music - including how vocalists are using the Kuling-trickle but also resting and slightly unusual Dorian scale structures.
Even Disney picked it up a bit for their "How to train a Dragon" and especially "Frost" sound-tracks.

Your pronunciation at the beginning was really close. The way you said it would be like Eivøøør. Too long Ø.
Eivør is her first name. Eivør Pálsdóttir (daughter of Pál).
