Luther is EXCELLENT. At least the first couple of seasons.
Watching The Sopranos for the third time. So many great moments in each episode. It set the bar for what has become the second golden age of television featuring cinematic production value. Rome gets honorable mention. I loved how they used the character of the newsreader to move the story forward.
Pine Barrens best episode
For me, The Wire is miles better than The Sopranos. But Soprano is my second fave show ever.
I've been watching The Wire, almost done with it and it's good. Took me a while to get into the story, but after the first season it started to flow and gain momentum. It's grittier than the Sopranos, because a story about the Italian mafia will be different than drug dealing street gangs, but it's definitely on par. Just remember that what makes The Sopranos so great is that it was the first. It set the bar for what television was to become. There would be no The Wire, or Breaking Bad without The Sopranos. Each of these series are crime dramas but had their own distinct vibes. What they share is excellent writing, acting and cinematic quality production values. BTW I know that Breaking Bad isn't an HBO series, just using it as a comparison.
Chernobyl is definitely a must watch. The story telling and cinematography is amazing

The Wire was my introduction to HBO shows and Band of Brothers from there. Then you have Thrones, Sopranos, and Raised By Wolves. At this point, I'd watch any show they put on the app

You cannot go wrong with the following: Boardwalk Empire, The Wire, DeadWood, GOT and Sopranos. Can mix in a little Chernobyl or perhaps a comedy to round things out.

Game of Thrones was going to be the best and most epic show of all time. It's the only show I can remember where there were watch parties all over the world like each episode was the Super Bowl. Why did they have to blow the final season :(

@Rich Dollars nice !! Yeah Banshee was one of the best shows ever at least the first 3 seasons were. There were no boring or just filler episodes every episode was just so good. I feel the same way about Warrior. They are making a season 3 of Warrior !! It will either come out at the end of 2022 or not till 2023. Have you seen the shows See, Frontier, Gangs of London or The Punisher ?

Good list , just re- rewatched Band of brothers with my wife who saw it for the first time. It is a powerful and heart wrenching telling of war with no bullshit attached. Anyone here that has not seen please do .

Netflix library in the UK is probably better than Netflix US. because it still has great shows like Friends, The Big Bang Theory, Luther, Line of Duty, DC Titans, Friday Night Dinner, Red Dwarf.

HBO realized - somewhat too late, that cancelling DEADWOOD was a HUGE mistake. 3 Seasons was not nearly long enough, and they just left the audience stranded. The reuniting for the movie was such a disappointment, it seemed like all the actors were just doing a cameo "Hey, here we are again - ain't it great" - No, it was not,
You are right on the money with Band of Brothers, The Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire, Barry - are all great shows. My wife and I finally took the time to watch The Wire in it's entirety - well worth it. Could not, as try as I might - get in to Game of Thrones, sounds like the finale was a dis - glad I didn't !
Agree Deadwood should of been continued, not watched the movie expecting disappointment... A wrong move not watching game of thrones, every season was absolutely fantastic, the finale was good but more was expected due to the rest being top class. Dont miss this show for that reason only, finale was just a little deflating. You'll be riveted as were millions. No show or movie was downloaded more worldwide
Game of Thrones final season was a huge disappointment. That being said, the series is amazing. I would most definitely recommend watching it.
I heard there were a lot of contract issues with Deadwood. The actors were wanting, and deserved, big money but HBO didn't want to shell it out. Big mistake! One of the best shows EVER cut down in its prime.

I'm missing Euphoria, Rome, Veep and Rick&Morty. Sharp Objects and Big Little Lies are also great series worthy of an honorable mention. I loved the inclusion of Oz in the list, it's a bit dated but what an intense series that was. Chernobyl higher than Deadwood and GoT? Up till at least Season 5 GoT is the best series ever imo. Westworld Season 1 was amazing, Season 2 became a bit of a mess and season 3 looks cool, but the writing seriously went downhill. Personally, I don't get the praise for Barry. I also probably wouldn't include Silicon Valley and haven't seen Eastbound&Down and The Night of yet. The Office UK and Friends? Sure, fun to watch, but in terms of quality I don't think they belong. Overall HBO has still by far the best collection of series.

@@maruf2050 Chernobyl is indeed great and flawless, but also only a mini series. Doing a great mini series is one thing. Doing multiple great seasons is a whole different game and thus I would rate it higher. As for humor, I'd say my top 3 are Arrested Development, Veep and Seinfeld.
