- Benromach Cask Strength Batch 1 V Ardnamurchan Cask Strength AD/02.22 Single Malt Whisky Review
We have another comparison review today! Two whiskies we have really enjoyed previous expressions form in the past and couldn't wait to try! We found they were quite opposite from each other in many ways but had some similar notes so made for a really good comparison!
Have you tried either of these drams? What did you think of them and how would you compare them? Let us know in the comments!
We do in person and virtual tastings. Follow the link to book on! We'd Love to see you there! callander-drinks-co.myshopify...

All of the distilleries owned by companies with a history as independent bottlers seem to make some of the best stuff if you like a bit of dirt to add to a well-rounded whisky. Edradour(Signatory), Springbank(Cadenhead's), Benromach(Gordon & MacPhail), Ardnamurchan(Adelphi)... it makes me curious to see what Torabhaig(Mossburn), Ardnahoe(Hunter Laing), Dál Riata(North Star) and Portintruan(Elixir) will manage to cook up.
That's very true! Good observation, never thought of it quite like that before! What we have tried from Torabhaig was excellent so hopefully the rest on your list follow suit! It is definitely a good time to be into whisky!!!
'Picknick by a pier' might be the best note i've heard this year so far! Not had a chance of trying cs ardnamurchan, but their regular bottles are just yum. And as a bit of a benromach fanboy, the silence after your first sip spoke volumes. Nice one.
I think we need to do that when you come visit Scotland Menno.
Sometimes the silence says more!
just found your channel. very charming, no-nonsense reviews. feels like having a dram with friends. instant sub.
Aw thanks! That's lovely to hear! That's what it feels like to us in the comments too!
Bas ste cool, prva devojka je progledala nakon par gutljaja
"smelled a wee bit more jobbie like" line of the show right there :-). Another cracking review from the both of you. Benromach "the Springbank of Speyside". Currently have the 2009 CS open, get similar notes from recent kilkerran cs8 sherry. Bit obsessed with Benromach just now (as you can tell from the profile pic..). Loving their CS and single cask releases.
Definitely an underrated distillery doing some interesting stuff!
It’s like picking your favourite child
I would buy both bottles, as I have done ! Thanks for the tasting session on Friday it was excellent
Glad you enjoyed it! Your Benromach will be with you this evening!
To get the smoke, you can try to rub a drop on the back of the hand and then smell it.
Great smelling and tasting notes - good advice all round - now I am hooked on both of them!
Great! Glad to hear it. Enjoy!
Got both these bottles on the shelf. The 'romach is soooo tasty. Not opened the 'murchan yet though. Got a bit of a backlog of bottles. But everyone keeps telling me I should open it.
Oh, you're in for a treat! Its nice to have a few waiting to be opened though! 😂
I have a bottle of the Benromach and it's something special. Hoping the Ardnamurchan CS makes its way to Australia soon enough!
Fingers crossed!!!
A good video and nice time relaxing and tasting whisky. Sadly I have not had either, but hopefully I can fix that issue soon! Take care!
Thanks! Hope you manage to get a taste soon!
Great review and very interesting to hear your comparison between these two bottles.
Luckily I did get to try the Ardnamurchan Cask Strength at the scenic distillery. Certainly the Ardnamurchan has less peat in it.
Glad you like the comparison. Thanks for watching!
I think it is Ailsa Bay that also measure the ppm at bottling and put it on the label
Ah! That might be who I was thinking of! Thank you
Fab I have an Ardnamurchan on its way and a Benromach in the cupboard. I'm going to recreate this at home. Don't think I'll be as funny as you 2 though. Nice vid as usual ladies
Thanks! Hope you enjoy them!
Here in the US, Benromach Cask Strength isn't widely available but Ardnamurchan Cask Strength is basically a unicorn.
You'll just have to have a visit to try some!
Depends on what state you live in, but try the online UK shops!
Every time they say Bananas Take A Drink~!!!
😂
Came for the Jobbie reference, stayed for the rotting veg. Nailed the cherry lips BTW, was enjoying my Ardnamurchan CS while watching and the cherry lips hit hard. Glad you two are back!
Thanks! Wow that makes us sound quite disgusting!😂😂😂 Jobbies and rotting veg!
For some reason I thought the Yorvik Viking center had closed years ago. We went there in 1995 not long after it opened. Remember parts of the ride smelled like seagull poop 🤣 Cheers
I was also there in 1995 on a school trip! The only smell I remember was the smoky one!
Was that jobbies and rotting veg? Not going to hear that on other reviews. Loving the Ardnamurchan cs, was interested to see how it might hold up against the batches. very much recognisable as Ardnamurchan yet quite different too. Not got around to opening the Benromach cs, just can't open them all, not enough days in the week. Soon.
It was indeed! And no, you certainly won't! 😂 At least it was the smell of the place MINUS the jobbies and rotting veg! 😂
What would you do without having eaten a huge array of cheap sweets? I’m waiting for the sweet reviews with whisky notes…
Haha, we'd have no tasting notes! Ok that has to be done! Keep an eye out! 😂
Rach could you please explain “jobbie like “ please
Oh Simon, I'm sorry to tell you that jobbie is a Scottish word for poo! 😂 The Yorvic Viking centre is meat to be an immersive experience of what it was like to live back then! Hope this helps!
@@TheGrailTastings Thank you, and yes you’re right I’ve visited the Jorvik centre and indeed it does whiff a bit jobbie like 😂😂😂
