- After 1 year I check the condition of my 20 gallon fabric pot worm bin & discover many worm balls & worm bin treasures as my red wiggler composting worms turn cardboard & food scraps into natural fertilizer & soil amendments in the form of worm castings! I also release about 7 worm balls worth of worms all at once in an ending time lapse after I rebuild the bin & add a feeding!!

I did this today! I harvest the castings making a nursery, then I made them a new bedding with layers of tree bark,
They loved it last time and spring break on those,

Mamas' are the best !! Great clip of the future. This bin is having numerous worm parties here! It's getting a little too wild in there 😂😆The worms were having too much fun they missed the banana 😀🍌 That was a crazy amount of worms at the end! My guess would have to be at least 3-4 lbs.

I was just as enthused as you when you discovered the large worm balls 👏👏(I used to shutter 😵💫)!! re: Cooked celery - obtained from soups and from pieces stuffed in turkey/chicken when roasting. I loved the time lapse. SO MANY WORMS!! Can't wait to see what foods they attack, particularly the citrus peels. You kept it moving so I didn't even notice the longer than usual video.

Considering the amount of food you give at each feeding and how much moisture each must contain, your substrate looks surprisingly dry.
I`m loving all the worm balls.
Emptying this bin really helped me find every last worm ball around every last food scrap!! We have had quite the warm up these last 10 days here in Florida so I think the change in weather has dried the bin up a little around the edges. I love this bin. I started my first worm bin just before Christmas, they’ve overwintered in our spare room as I wanted to get the numbers up as much as possible . I fed and fluffed today and the population is exploding and eating like mad. I’ve got the bags and once the weather warms up they are going outside. From all I’ve seen this seems to be the best fit for me. Thanks for the update

As always very interesting video. When I fed my bin earlier this day I also found two mango seeds while aerating. They were going for the fibres too and even occupied the inside when I opened the already cracked seeds. :D Started aerating my bin while feeding soon after I found your channel last year. The moisture levels, smell and consistency of the casting is so much better since then. Oh and by the way, the grinded peanut shells seem to be the perfect addition when it is too wet, they take lots of moisture and don't need as much volume as shredded cardboard. The worms seem to like the peanut shells too, no problems so far.

Thank you!! The fabric bags shed the perfect amount of moisture and let the whole bin breath. Normally I don’t add moisture to my bins but with these fabric pots I can dump a bunch of dry bedding in them and pour water over it without worrying about it getting too wet!! I’m also in zone 9b but way, way…way further south than you in Florida so I can also leave them outside year round, so no worries about them shedding water onto something. Oh I loved seeing them all curled up in the avo shell!! I’ve been interested to see if they will break that down completely….?? And the same with the mango 🥭 seed, it’s incredible watching how they work!! They definitely seem to like loofah 🙌🏼 how good are those grow bags?!? I honestly would never have thought of doing worms in them but I can tell they are really loving that environment!! These grow bags really are indestructible when it comes to using them as a worm bin!! I though for sure I'd find some degradation or holes. Those avocado shells are like little individual worm bins for them😂 They always seem to harbor worm balls! It is so hard to wait for the time lapse when I'm doing them in real time...I always want to disturb the worms as they make their way down😀 But I think, by far, this is the largest one I've done!! Thanks!! I think it weighed about 3-4 pounds the way I was able to sling it around, but I wish I had weighed it then. I think there was at least another 1-2 pounds still in the castings as well. I got those two old grow bags from, coincidentally, the same person who was moving away & could not take along the worm farm that was entrusted to me & started vermicomposting for me back in 2017. I think those bags - which are home made, not store brought - were already in service before I got them for a couple years. I believe that they are also going strong & could easily go another 5 years or longer... 👍🏻

I have a worm bin I get the cardboard from toilet rolls save them up then fold 2 or 3 and put it inside one tube makes a nice hide out
And I put food in them too

I have a question. I have a billion really tiny white bugs in my bin. I don’t know what they are, if they’re bad, or how to get rid of them 🤷♀️ Any ideas?
If you look real close do the seem to be jumping? If yes then they could be springtails. If they are just tiny white dots that move then they are probably mites. Neither are a problem and are part of the normal cycle of a worm bin. They actually help the worms breakdown the food scraps. If they suddenly appear after a certain food and don’t eventually go down in population then it could be a sign of overfeeding or a fermenting bin. Again, the mites or springtails aren’t the problem they just help indicate that the parameters in the bin may be less than ideal. Hope this helps!! Thanks so much for taking time to watch!!🪱🪱🪱

I'm not sure, I haven't tried it but I do make kombucha & I have a kombucha SCOBY I could take a piece off of and try! Hopefully someone will see this and let you know if they tried it. I have a bin coming due for a feeding I can try it in but it will take me a week to find out the results for you.
