In the year 1950, Subbayya Gaaru opened a small 10-seater mess in Kakinada in the East Godavari region of Andhra Pradesh to serve honestly-priced food of the land. Legend has it that he would treat each customer as a guest visiting his home and leave no stone unturned in feeding them. Tales of his legendary hospitality and traditional fare soon spread far and wide and this tiny eatery evolved into the legendary Subbaiah Gari chain of restaurants. I visit their newly opened Bengaluru outpost where I explore the kitchen and the making of some special dishes before savouring a lavish 30-item banana leaf meal that is served with dollops of neyi (ghee) and old-fashioned hospitality that can leave you bursting at the seams! If you’re looking to savour the traditional flavours of the North Godavari region in Andhra Pradesh, look no further than this special 30-dish Andhra Bhojanam. You begin with tantalising sweets like annavaram prasadam, poornam boorelu, junnu, savoury fries like the tamalapaku (betel leaf) bajji, garelu, before moving on to the procession of curries, lentils, tantalising rice preparations like the pullihora (tamarind rice), panasa (raw jackfruit) mukkala biryani and chutneys. The list of dishes served is far too long to be contained within this description, but suffice to say the food prepared by the master cooks who have trained in the original Kakinada Subbayya Gaari Hotel will hold your attention. But then, this is also the sort of meal that you need to savour at leisure, in order to do full justice to the dishes that are served with generous dollops of neyi (ghee) and old-fashioned hospitality.

My father told he used to serve food freely many times to him and sometimes my father used to pay/concessional. My father would tell us stories about subbayya hotel in Kakinada from his college days in the 50s. They are able to maintain the same hospitality and standards even now, which is commendable
It's all about his hospitality, they don't leave you until you taste everything.. I had that experience in kakinada..

Heaven is ... Having an wholesome Andhra rice meals on a Sunday afternoon... drink buttermilk.... have 2 or 3 paans....and most importantly, have a full 3 hour afternoon sleep..

My tummy was full and I was struggling to get up from my seat but, next to me the person serving food stood with a Butter milk glass and said in telugu ' koddiga majjiga osukondi pottalo sallaga untadi' the way they shower ❤️ is what cannot be found anywhere else!

I’m glad that something which is Andhra/Telugu in true sense is opened in Bangalore. I was tired of having food made in the name of Andhra meals but by people who don’t have an idea of flavours. Majority of the Andhra style eateries in Bangalore sell chilies mixed with food in the name of Andhra. I’m based from both Telangana and Andhra. Will visit this place with my parents and wife once I’m back to India. Thank you sir for the information regarding their opening in Bangalore.

Bro.. same applies here in Tamilnadu.. on the name of Andhra food they just add more spicyness to all the curries.. or just include some podi with ghee and call it andhra food.. there are very few authentic andhra hotels in chennai... i mean literally few.. but the rest are crap.. they even sell Hyderabad biryani and trust me when you eat it.. we as andhra/telangana people will regret eating or lets even say that they are naming such biryanis and tagging to our states..

I had a lunch in this hotel in Hyderabad the I have waited for almost 25 mins to have my seat in the hotel the hospitality shown by the hotel management is outstanding and after having the lunch I couldn’t even walk and stayed in the lounge area there for 45 mins “probably the most delicious vegetarian meal I have ever had”😍
