That 8.3 Cummins and 8LL combo is hard to beat!
My uncle started out with an L8000 like this one but it had a 3208 CAT in it. Tough trucks for their size, and the cabs had a lot of room too.
Laying down some super smooth shifts right from the beginning. Love it.
Can’t beat an old Ford. Great job on the video
Only thing ford is the frame and cab.
Everything else is Cummins
Eaton Fuller
Spicer
Hendrickson
Dayton
Or Saginaw in some cases
I love the l9000 though. It’s in my top 5.
I’m rebuilding a door for one right now...
I drove a L8000 in my early years..it had the round headlights and a 3208 (cat 210 hp) in it that smoked like it was on fire when it was started first thing on a cold morning..
Thanx for the ride along 👍
Them old Ford's were hard to beat, I put a few hundred thousand miles on a L9000 hauling logs, great trucks!
Them old trucks were more interactive than the new ones lol. It's like riding a bull while steering a boat.
I have one 8.3 Black Cummins 300 HP with 14609 Eaton
Fuller ,good trucks!!
I appreciate the ride along. Thanks again for sharing your experiences with us.
Great video Tim. Thanks for the ride along. 👍👍👍
Thanks for the ride along. The old Ford was gettin' er done!!
That old girl sure runs good. Shifts smooth rides smooth very nice old truck man very nice truck I can see why you haven't sold it

Thanks for the ride along in an old classic.
I started out driving a older dumpdruck like that when I first got my CDL license, seems to still be a great running truck, hope that you and your family have a Happy New Year
Like the looks of that truck when Ford come out with the body. A guy I worked with had one was a nice looking tractor. Keep the good videos coming. Love watching your videos. God bless you.
The old boy can still drive a truck. Happy new year Tim & family.
Great video of 2018, can't wait to see what's in store for the new year. Happy new year to u and family
Nice little ride Tim Thanks.
Happy New Year Tim and family!
Tim, you and your family have a healthy and prosperous New year
That's a nice truck, no computers. Happy New Year to you and you family.
Wow, reminds me of the days I hauled timber in and around Cape Town with a M.A.N.30.280. Bouncy and noisy as hell, but tough as nails!!
Those old Louisville Fords were tough trucks. I had a 73 880 that had a 534 gas with a 5x3 trans. It had double bunks on it and we hauled 8ft post or 18 ft pulpwood on it. The gas engine only got 3.1 mpg and converted that gas into a lot of noise. It was geared low 3200 was 55 mph 3500 was redline. It out pulled 427 Chevys loaded but even their long stroke truck version wound up quicker than the big Ford did.
I have a 71 f800 with a 391 with 5x3. Truck has bunks and a prentice on it. Badass trucks
The 534 was used in several Trucks, they are fuel guzzlers but sure do have some power.
Good old truck! Happy new year
Like the video Tim on Ford truck ,Happy New Year 2019 .
I used to drive 1 like that but a triaxle what the fords had going for them the trucks where easy to drive and are good on fuel. Happy New Year to tim and family. Be safe have a great day
Cool ride along 👍
That’s quite the driveway you’re lucky you get snow down there it would be A pain to keep that plowed lol

Have a happy and safe New Years celebration Tim. I see you subscribe to the "Indicators...why tell everyone where I am going" school..LOL. Cheers big ears, from the land Down Under.
I Enjoy your video nice old ford dump truck keep her running
Would be so cool to see a cold start with this view of the pedals and controls!
That runs pretty good.
HAPPY NEW YEAR SIR!!!!
Good stuff enjoyed that,
hello there trucker Tim 😂. thanks for the awesome content today bud. as always stay safe out there and take care fella.
😊 NICE RIDE-ALONG (They don't make em like that anymore) Maintained LN 8000 30 years, 3208 auto, still motating,.
📆🥴🥂 HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL / THANKS FOR THE LOOK INTO SOUTHERN LIVING 😍😍😍😍😍
nice old dumper man
like to get my hands on one like it. they were good trucks ford had put out 👍
I have a 94 L8000 too. My truck has the small 8.3 Cummins motor in it. Too small of a motor for a tandem but it works.
I got an old Norfolk Southern Railroad Ford L800 Hirail Truck like this!
Gotta love the ole cummins
Really nice just listening to the machine do it's business, them old diesel units will work until the body and frame have turned to dust with decent maintenance.
I have a Ford F-800 as well as a M923A2,M931A2,& M936A2 with the 8.3L 6CT.I have 240 HP/592 lbs of Torque for all of mine, the 12 Valve is one hell of a bulletproof Engine.Alot of competition drag trucks use 8.3L's and they can be far fetched as high as 1,000-1,400 HP being fully built.Even though they stay with their life span at 300 HP or lower, and alot of them don't like more than 40 Psi of Boost from a Turbo, espiecally if you try to run 2,500-2,700 RPM or more, which a different Governor Spring can help with that.I keep mine around 2,200 RPM and the H1E in my M923A2 does 18 Psi of Boost.
going through a stop sign at 2:20. Living life on the edge
nice country !
Nice!!
That old girl still got plenty of get up and go
Love the old Ford!
Do all the gauges still work?
Fords claim to fame was if all the needles on the gauges pointed to 3 o'clock everything was OK. Quick Glance.
Super trucker 👍👍👍
Great video Tim ! Just curious though ... the shift pattern you are using seems to be a 9 speed transmission or am I wrong on that? We have a L8000 at work with a 10 spd tranny and the old 7.8 litre Brazilian Ford Diesel .
That's a 9 speed transmission bro 😀
awesome!!!! i got a 95
Looked like you were floating gears?? I drive a 92 L8000 with the cat, they’re bulletproof trucks. You absolutely cannot kill it.. Ice cold AC too!
👍 nice
How did you put a 8LL trans behind a 8.3? 8LL is a 2” input shaft. Did you put a in a bigger 2” clutch housing instead of the 1.75”?
Ik our 1990 l7000 will pull 8t in the bed and a 15t backco that the same time it didn't like uphill 😂😂
You gotta keep that diesel trucking, just put that hammer down and give it hell...
I learned how to double clutch on one of these, except the transmission was absolutely trashed, you basically slammed it down or up till you found a gear
Truck sounds sweet Napa mike
like someting of coilbook
1:25
I see you only used the clutch to downshift. We’re you floating the gears?
Stop signs? Who needs em!?
Wonder do ur l8000 got a Cummins or cat engine mines got the n14 Cummins
Must suck to have to steer with ur left hand lol.
We in Australia are right hand drive.
Right hand steer left is joystick, as it should naturally
Did they figure out your trans problems with your newer ram ? And where is goldy?
What kind of transmission is that? I can hear it winding. My dad has that transmission in his Mack granite dump truck and it’s a maxitourqe transmission he has that same exact winding sound. So is it that transmission designed by Mack?
No, that's straight cut gear whine. Dana Spicer.
It's probably either a Dana Spicer or even Eaton perhaps.
So I have this school bus with a p pump Cummins and I was thinking about putting it in a Pete 358 with an Allison transmission and pull only about 70,000-80,000 lbs behind it on flat ground and also have as a drag semi lol I think it would be a great idea but I’d love to hear some one else’s opinion
I'd take it if ya gave it to me! 😉😂
Not using clutch?
What is the water sound in your chat videos? Do you have a fish tank? Does Brin have a website for M&M demolition?
I was wondering about an update from M&M too.
I did enjoy your video does that truck have a 9 speed or 8 speed. Hope you have a good Sunday and next week
9 speed. You can see Tim put it in "low" when he takes off at the start of the video.
It’s an 8 double low
What's the difference between the two? Or do we just have different names for the same transmission?
You got low and a second switch on the shifter that’ll drop it into a lower gear than normal low.
Yes tim I started to say 8 double L
You got skill timmy
Eaton 9 speed ?
Have you heard any updates on Dalton? Did you put your bike away or do you still take it out for rides?
He got his port out Friday and is good.
Thank you for the update.
Do you still use this dump truck? Or even have it? Do you have any complaints about that engine/transmission or truck in general? I was looking at a 1995 f800 dump body with this engine and the 5 speed with low/high.
Still have it and use it.
@@cotontop3 thanks for the reply. Can I ask your opinion what one might be worth? Just a ball park range. The one I’m looking at is a 1995, I’d say it’s good condition all the way around. It has 65k miles.
For the people that dont knw how many times did u shift up or down i lost count at 60
Dont tink u did over 55
Is that truck an 8 speed or 10 speed
Looks like a 8 Speed "Double Low".
Sounds like a train
9 speed right?
8 double low
How many gears
Looks like 8.
What Trans?
Has to be a 8 Speed.
@@Slim_Slid Its actually a 8LL. Saw him respond to another comment and said its an 8LL
Do you not like 6 gear lol
It’s an 8 double low so you don’t go back to the low hole when you start into the high side.
Are your friends at how farms work going to beat mf to 200000?its very close at moment.
shouldn't record yourself running stop signs like you do
Shouldn't drive while loaded
