If you’re talking ray tracing then yes, but even then the 6950xt is comparable to a 3070 in ray tracing (which is still great), and trades blows with a 4070 ti in traditional rasterized performance. And while it doesn’t have frame generation, it’ll have fsr 3 once that’s out, and amd’s drivers are amazing gaining small (but noticeable) performance uplifts every few months. I’m definitely trying to sell you on amd, but overall it just depends. It wins some here, and loses some there, but the 6950xt is most definitely competitive with the 4070 especially considering it has 16gb of vram while the 4070 has 12gb

Just for laughs, I ran Firestrike EXtreme with a 5900X 3060 ti and a 2070 as a dedicated PhysX card and got 13867. The Physics score was 32448, but Graphics was only 14184 and combined was 6844. I'm hoping that next week I can pick up the RTX 4070 and then run tests with a dedicated PhysX card, testing both the 3060 ti and the 2070 in that roll.
It should be interesting to see.
The big appeal for me is the low power draw, i want to couple one with an R9 7900 cpu for a low power, low temperature PC that can pack a good punch.
I bought the RX6800 PowerColor Fighter. It seemed to be the best value for those looking to keep their graphic solutions more long term. 16MB of VRAM is the new 8!
I agree, I wouldn't buy any 4070, 6900xt, or 3080. The 6800 is where it's at. Even though I'm still on an RX 580. And I'm using my Steam Deck more than my gaming PC these days.

long term the 6800 will encounter rasterization problems long before the average game uses 15GB of vram at 1080p
I got the 3070 took while to get but it works well with benchmarking VR games in vrchat definitely vrchat for dancing but there is a limit with the 8 gig
I'm really considering this card to throw in my old OMEN. Currently running an i7 8700/2080. What i like the most about the 4070 is the efficiency of it. It's pulling the same power as my 2080. This card is currently going for 479 on ebay. Hmmm

RT doesn't matter with 12gb vram for future titles. The 12gb vram is going to run into a wall at 1440p + RT. RE4 remake showed us that. Personally, I would pick the 6900xt simply because nothing beats the raw raster, also, slightly larger vram is going to serve my gaming needs. I also don't need cuda and live in a place with relatively cheap electricity. Everybody else can have different picks because everybody else may have different needs for their gpu usage.

I bought the 6950xt after seeing the reviews across the board on 4070. I’m a 1440p player and RT for what I’d use is good enough if I use at all.

@@diddymies it's not ideal, but that wasn't the question :) I've been running a 5700XT (higher power) and a 3900X (higher power) with multiple add in cards and spinny disks on a 10 year old 550W PSU with no problems.
550 is a bit low for a 4070. At least get a 650 one.

I would be interested to see the undervolted 6900xt or 6950xt performance compared to the 4070 to see what the power-to-performance is as you undervolt those AMD cards down to the typical 4070 power draw. Can you save 70W-80W of power without kneecapping FPS?
You can drop the 4070 to 140-160w while keeping 90-95% stock perf depending on the workload, which is far far more efficient than a 6900 xt or 6950 xt which will be approaching double that even after being undervolted and having similar performance. Keep in mind that your GPU is NOT as big of an impact on your power bill as you might think, unless you have your gpu running at 100% load 24/7.

Yeah, the price might still be a little high... but I'm looking forward to more reviews of the smaller versions, as you can finally get a current gen gpu that fits in some of the smaller SFF builds.

Remember the days when a XX70 class card beat the XX80 class card (of the previous gen) by a 20%+ margin for $100/£100 less money? In the hypothetical scenario I would have chosen the 6900XT providing of course PSU pricing was also reasonable and sane.
Even now, buying brand new - the case could be made for the RX 6800XT's here in the UK at around £560 in one retailer in particular. RX 6900XT's and 6950XT's are at RX7900XT pricing anyway due to lack of supply. 20% VAT (sales tax) is the killer which makes us UK people extremely jealous of our American cousins.

xx70 class cards have often been close to beating the best of the previous generation. This is really terrible performance for a xx70 card, as if the lackluster performance wasn't enough it's also 50% more expensive.
The 70 class cards on Nvidia's side historically were at the previous gen 80Ti level. It was the 60 class cards that were at the previous 80 class cards. So yeah, in my opinion, you're paying more for less performance, even factoring in inflation.
In germany 6950xt goes for around 650€, so it is the same price as in the US. We dont pay tax after purchase, the tax is included in the price. What do you pay in the US, around 10%?! on top of the 650$, so it would be around 715$. 650€=715$

I've got problem with selecting right card for me - 7900 xt has raster perf (4080 perf on msi model after 2,94 GHz OC) and ok rt perf, 4070ti and 4070 have good rt performance and around 5x better cyberpunk OD RT perf. Last 2 times I went for 5700 and got hurt because no rt, no dlss, and 6700xt and got hurt because fsr2 super late and rt perf made it possibly to only play in 900p for a first year. I don't want to repeat that but I also don't want to be pushed to 1080p because of the vram - DLSS also eats vram.
If you are between 7900xt and rtx 4070ti, then yeah i would go for amd. Unless RT is a must have for you. But if you plan on keeping your gpu for more then 2 years, then the 7900xt will be a better buy. (4080 owner here)
@@themadnes5413 Your 4080 is great in both vram and performance :). The point is my 6700xt runs OD RT in 450p 30fps and 7900xt is only 2x better, meanwhile 4070ti is 4k60 DLSS2+3 - and I've seen FG and I like it. 7900XT, especially with +12% OC, reaches raster 4080 levels but it's 5x slower on path tracing. If every game comes out with path tracing after an year then 7900 xt becomes useless. If 16GB VRam becomes required for 1440p then 4070 ti becomes 1080p card. Are you still sure 7900XT is better choice? There's a 760USD price cut in Poland for the XT now.
@@michahojwa8132 From experience, you dont want to use FG with like 60-70fps, it feels very sluggish. At around 75-85fps it starts to feel ok (at least for first person games). I dont think we will see a flood of path tracing games, simply becouse the consoles can't handle it. But most likely you will see a lot of RT games. So it depends on your needs at the end, do you really want RT in your games or can you live without it. And FSR 3 is close, dont know how it will look and perform doh, specially the inputlag. To conclude: for the next 2 years and RT -> 4070ti, for simple RT and 3-4 years 7900xt, hard to choose i know.

@@michahojwa8132 The RT games we will see will mostly be UE5 lumen which does not have a preference for nvidia, the 7900xt will perform like a 4070ti and the 7900xtx will perform like a 4080 with lumen RT.

I have the RX 6900 XT
I mainly use my pc for work and multitasking a lot with several monitors all at different resolutions and panels. While I do enjoy gaming, I also enjoy doing so with Ray Tracing. I know my fps isnt as high as an Nvidia card would be. But, when I only game about a third of the time im at my pc, I couldnt justify the price of the nvidia card for performance.
The lower fps during ray tracing isnt a large downside to me. In ray traced games, im not caring about massively huge fps. If its over 60 fps, Im good with that. And most get over that or extremely close to it even on max settings in game and 2k resolution on an ultrawide monitor. In the end, Im glad I got the amd card and likely would purchase one again.
I'm also leaning hard with almost every reviewer that AMDs 6000 series high end cards are very compelling.
FSR 3 will add frame generation to 6800, 6950 etc and they have large vram.. So if that silly frame generation fakery is what's setting ngreedia cards apart, well folks have you heard of fine wine?

@@gabrielsemipro true, but I'm old school and don't think we need FSR or DLSS. It's kind of a scam.. Give us more performance rather than lowering resolution, creating artefacts and then using sharpening to mask as much as possible. AMDs raster performance is very good dollar for dollar against ngreedia. I'm personally uninterested in FSR but it will eventually help us when the GPU purchased is a couple of years old and there's a new game out etc. It was made for consoles so give us our money's worth on PC, we're spending more on GPU than the entire console

At $600 I'd be looking at a 6950XT as the higher VRam will probably keep the rasterization performance higher for the long term verses the 30 and 40 series options. I don't see an aging card doing much ray tracing in the long run as games get more demanding to run. This is the my opinion as a current 3080FE owner.

Not prices right. We've been duped the last time with 3070 8gb and now it's becoming a hindering factor. Eventually down the line 12gb will be next. I would've been hyped if this was 500 again. But honestly? 450 dollars since the struggle of 8gb worries me and future triple A games requirements.

look at the specs on the card, then add 100 watts for overhead, if it says 650 thats thats just for the video card. other components in your system need power too, like USB peripherals.
Great video. The only powerful card other than FE that will fit my blessed/cursed Dan A4 SFX. INNO3D's Ti card which is the most powerful card that can fit is unfortunately 50% more expensive. Just not worth it for the same 12GB.
I think 4070 FE and 3080/3090 Evga XC3 ultra will fit the A4. Just a little toasty, but manageable.

is likely VRAM related, enabling RT or setting Ultra for texture details is most likely the root cause. The last I checked there's about 8-9 games that use over 8gb vram @ 1080p. So try lowering texture details or RT down to medium/low on the games that affect you. This is very game specific though.

I probably won't buy anything, cause to be honest I don't play any demanding games so why buy any GPU. But if I did the main question I would have would be a 6950xt now or wait for the 7800xt. The cheapest 6950xt I've seen (powercolor red devil) is 50€ more expensive than the cheapest 4070. From the "leaks" some youtubers have talked about it doesn't seem like the 7800xt will be any better than the 6950xt and it will probably cost more (than the 6950xt costs now).

RTX 4070: Sips power though pain in the ass new power plug./ Features low Vram amount that's already barely enough for the latest games maxed out, forcing you to lean heavy on DLSS 3 and FSR in games./Features fake frames with bonus visual oddities and latency.
Seems like an easy choice to me. RX 6950 XT is the way to go. Saying this though, I had already went from a RTX 2070 Super to a 7900 XT, so this isn't really an issue for me. But if I was more budget limited, I would have picked the RX 6950 XT over the RTX 4070 any day of the week.
AMD already has a GPU out that competes w/ the RTX 4070, their RX 6900 XT. We'll see if they drop an RX 7700 XT or RX 7800 though.

As a 5600 XT + Ryzen 5 3600 owner who is also working and keeping up with other expenses, I want to upgrade but I'm not looking to. It boggles me that you have to spend 2-3000 USD on a rig, just to keep up on a 500 dollar console. F to PC gaming, for now.
Buy yourself a nice and high quality monitor for now, if you haven't.

The RTX 4090 is still Nvidia's lowest margin card, making the 4090 still the best "value" card
The 4070TI is less than half the card of the 4090, which historically would place it between 1/3rd to 1/4th the price, or between $539 and $400
With the 4070 the margins do come down significnatly, but the 4090 is still the card making Nvidia the lowest percentage of profit

I’m getting a 6900XT
The limited RTX4070 GPU bus (192-bit) suffers biiiig time on newer and more demanding titles such as Hogwarts Legacy, CP2077, and newer titles to be release. Unlike the 320-bit bus on the RTX3080. I for one, imo, am not a fan of Frame Generation (FG) or ‘fake frames’ to booster fps claims 🤦♀🤦💩💩 by Nvidia. I own 30 and 40-series gpus and don’t like how it feels in game. We need actual rasterisation performance increase of value …. Not what we can get with fake frames and upscaling to reduce die sizes, make gpus cheaper to build and dearer to buy by manufacturers.
Framegen starts to feel sluggish under like 90-100fps, above that i think it is perfectly fine.

This card is positioned to create a false sense of value, just because the RTX 4070 Ti is overpriced as a decoy. If you watch some videos that do breakdowns of their marketing strategy, you'll probably feel manipulated. At least this time around, they don't totally rip off consumers. It's not bad value. It's just not as good value as you think it offers.
It's Worth around 500 bucks
12gb would making the same mistake as 8gb 3 years ago unless you're happy paying $600+ for a 1080p card.

Cards are garbage. Even the Ti is trash at 12gb, it should be 16. Get the 7900xt over this and the Ti. Yeah, its much more pricey, but 20-50% better depending on the game
