What is realistic though, is that if you are at a good friend's house and their mother decides to sweep the floor or do the dishes, as an example, you typically will do it for her, even if her child is too lazy to help her with the task. But that's really tough on such friendships. So, you usually try to look like you are assisting your friend, who should, even if grudgingly, join you!

This is why i don’t invite any of my friends to my house 🤣🤣😂. Because in the presence of your parents, they act like reasonable and respectful people, but outside there, they are something else. Anyway, I am also guilty, in fact, 90% of Nigerians are guilty of this🤣. We just comport ourselves in front of elders or our friends parents. I invited one of my friends to my house, and my mom has always talked about how respectful and hardworking she is😭(a girl that is very rude outside😂😂), The funny thing is that my mom still talks about her till date, and it has been eight years already.
I don’t know if it is an African thing, but it is definitely a Nigerian thing. Assisting your friends with chores at their house is normal here, but we tend to overdo it cus we want our friend’s parents to see us as good friends to their children. If the reverse were the case, Ojo would do the same at his friend’s place. Lol, so it is not for the fun of it; it is also a way to show that we came from respectable homes and that our parents trained us right. In this part of the world, if a child misbehaves or goes astray, the parents are blamed for not training their children well, so we, the children, always try to show that we are well mannered wherever we go. If Ojo’s friend didn’t do what he did, Ojo’s mother would have tagged him as a bad and untrained child and might most likely ask Ojo not to associate with him anymore.

It's an African thing. The way I am so lazy at home but when I am at a friend's house - I even offer to cook😂😂😂😂😂 It hits different when your friend's parents start praising you and calling you a good kid. One time I washed dishes till dawn at my aunt's house because there were people - I hate dishes. That day the grannies were calling me praises and my aunt was so shocked😂😂😂

What he meant by "How I was brought" was to show that kids clean up dishes after meal.
You can do it as you like is the way we show respect for elders
In the case of my brothers and i, it was school holiday and we went to spend 2 weeks at our cousins. Now in our own home my brothers and i were brought to wake up early do our chores, shower and get ready for breakfast... so we simply did same... our cousins never do that... we didnt know this of cos.. gosh.. the hell their mom rained on them that 1st morning cos she had been trying to get them to do same but they made her look like she was crazy.. then here we are, her sisters kids.. doing exactly what she always wanted.. Gosh.. the next few days after that was tension between us cousins. but by the 3rd day it was all water under bridge.. boys being boys.. 7 boys in a big home having a blast..

I'm south african and I always wash the dishes (except the pots) at my friend's house whenever the family invites me over for lunch or dinner😂 😂
They not rare at all i av them plenty….example if my friend comes to eat at my house and he knows my mom is there he would be like ( bro let us wash the dishes naw) I will ignore him but when my mom hear what he says,she’ll give piercing look to go and wash d dishes in d wrong time when she knows that’s not d time for me to wash dishes…..sometimes I regret wen my friends pull up to my place it’s torture from my mom
