"Looks like jelly on a plate" loving your welcoming humour. I believe the beach worm you catch on your videos are only native to Australia, although there are other species of sand worms across the world. I've recently come across your videos as I am currently a carp fisherman in the UK. I'm going to Thailand early October and my resort is right on the beach, I am planning on taking the rod with me and fishing the surf using your advice and guidance. From all the action you seem to be getting and the variety of fish, I think you have persuaded me to stop waiting around for the fish to come to my bait, like when fishing for carp, to go out to the surf and find out where they are hiding. Keep up the awesome videos and the positive fan base that you take on this journey with you. If I ever go down under, I will be sure to buy you a beer.
Thanks buddy, have a great time in Thailand!
We get similar worms in the UK, we call them ragwort, there are a few different types, harbour rag Which are small and white, we put about six on the hook and are good for flounders, and on the other end of the scale we get king rag worm orange and black in colour; good bait for any species and they can be up to two feet long and as thick as your finger. They’ve got pincers too and they can draw blood
You find. Them in pebbley sand and mussel beds
Very good bait if fresh
I meant rag worm obviously, you can buy farmed rag worm in the uk
Thanks Derek, great to know.
Love watching your videos Roger. Coz you actually take the fish home, ❤
Been having that for months now in my area, southwest of Portugal, flat beaches full of weeds. we have beachworms, but way smaller,we also have a species that lives inside a kind of cocoon and it is awesome for nigth fishing because it has a bit of a glow in the dark,it´s called Casulo worms.
I used to fish Puget Sound in Washington State and would dig up what was called sand worms or blood worms. When you pinched them off there would be red bloody. They had some very efficient fangs and could actually draw blood if they were good size. There were also Sand Shrimp you could dig up on the beach as well.
Thanks James, we get blood worms here too. They also have fangs
Great informative content Roger - especially your watercraft explanations. Next time you catch a Sting Ray, can you walk through in detail how you handle and release them. especially dealing with the barb.
Hi Roger! I fish in the central coast of California and we do have beach worms, though they are much, much smaller than the worms you get where you are. We call them "sand worms" and they normally get anywhere from 6-10 inches (15-25cm), though they look similar to the species you show in your video. The species is called Phyla Annelida, or Nemertea, or Platyhelminthes (Flatworms) and they have similar fangs and color to your worms there. A good video to watch about these can be found here: czcams.com/video/Sxy0b_sw5CA/video.htmlfeature=shared&t=672
Many of our near-shore fish eat these as the tides rise and waves crash upon the sand, so they are an exceptional bait to use if you can find them fresh. We also commonly use a soft plastic bait from Berkley called Berkley Gulp Sandworms which have a similar shape and color and are usually around 2" or so, and they work quite well to help find the bite. Anyway, love your videos as always, and thank you for the tips! Happy fishing!
Hi Roger. Once again, thanks for this captivating episode. Your content always immerses me and makes me lose track of my surroundings.
Thanks heaps. I appreciate your encouragement.
G'day Roger, in Vietnam they do eat a type of beach worm/marine tube worms - beaten up in an omelette. I've tried it and...truth be told, when you mix anything up in an omelette, you mostly taste the omelette. So quite tasty, with extra protein! Love the channel, unfortunately down south here in Vic we don't get quite the same variety of species as your beaches, but there is salmon. Love me sambos.
when I can’t be fishing, I watch your videos, love your work Roger 👍
Thanks Roger, for such practical and useful videos.
Thanks Jim, you are very welcome. I enjoy teaching people and passing on my knowledge.
Hi Rodger, Many thanks for sharing another great video.
You are very welcome
Hello, I'm from Portugal and here we have several species of worms, and they are fantastic for fishing in the Atlantic ocean.
Bruno, Where do you find your worms and how big do they grow?
Hi, it's usually at low tide In the middle of rocks where water is retained, this type of worm is 20cm long and very thin, 3mm thick.
Love the way you don't mind getting wet or wetter to land your catch 😂
Thanks Ian!
Another beautiful video Mr Osborne.
Thank you🙋♂️👍👍👍👍👍.
You are very welcome
Great video Roger! I was looking at the fish identification species book I bought my son and it shows that beach worms only live from southern QLD around to SA - WA border… I thought it was very interesting, the same book showed that squirt worms and blood worms lived around the entire Australian coastline.
Thanks roger for another amazing video, your content is always so helpful.
Very welcome
Really enjoyed the video 😀 A quiet session turned into a good session. And your right, if it gets tough, moving should always be an option. A burley bag washing about the shallows can help on those quiet days too. Attracts fish to your location. Old bread and dry dog food with a good dash of tuna oil on it. Gets a slick going. Cheers 👍
Thanks Trevor👍
I know what you’re saying about getting your leader tangled after a fish. Because the best time to catch a fish is straight after you have caught one - nice bream, that second one.
Thank you Roger for another intuative video, and thank you for your recommendation regarding beach research for better results! The only question that I have is: Aren't you afraid of the wild life late a night, like dingos that might be roming the beach in search of a meal?
Ni, I don't think about it. I have never seen a Dingo on the beach in NSW
@@RogerOsborneFishingThank you for the info! Since, I am not from Australia forgive me for my ignorance.I just wanted to know we're it was safe for fishing on a daly basis.Take care Roger!
Perfect to watch on ANZAC Day too, thank you Roger. 😊 Lest we Forget
We have them in east coast USA as well but they are called Sand Worms (max 8 inch)
They grow to 8ft here!
Awesome video Roger!
I love Watching your videos, it's very educational. ❤️👍
Happy to hear that!
Great vid, I've never seen anyone fish on the nudist beach side before.
Haha!
Great video Roger. thanks 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it
You should do a catch and cook with a banjo ray. They are sold commercially as Fiddler. I'm very fussy with the type of fish that I eat, but fiddler tastes great. My brother and I used to buy fish and chips up near Newcastle, and we couldn't figure out what fish they used. We asked the owner one day, and he said it was fiddler.
Awesome, thanks Brad. I will have to try it!
How do you filet them? We get heaps in vic
Good vid roger keep up the good work mate 😂
Thanks, will do!
How are you Roger, a friend of mine lives in Maine USA and the catch beach worms like us. Hope this answers your question.
Hi Oger, i live in Australia, but come from Ireland and we get them there and in the UK. We call them Ragworm.
Kieron, do you catch ragworm at the beach in Ireland?
Hi Roger , we used to dig for them with a garden fork. We got them on big open tidal areas. We dug them when them tide was out on open areas of sand. There was another type of worm called lugworm. @@RogerOsborneFishing
We have them in the country of Queensland, Gold Coast sea beaches. Get your passport and come to visit.
My friends dad would eat prawns from the bag of bait. Like not the prawns from seafood shops, like from the bag you get at the servo.
Oh man that’s so gross lol
Mate of mine eats them with the shell on.
Really liking your videos Roger and all of your insightful information you provide. Any chance you could give us abit of a rundown of what you carry in your backpack and bucket. Not sure if its just me but i feel like i might be overloading on the gear for a beach sesh.
I know where you are, Christmas Moon 2003 I fished there at night for mulloway with live squid I'd caught the previous night in the lake.
Trying different locations is good advice. 👍
Also try different bait or lures…
Last time I went Australian salmon fishing, I ran out of bait (pilchards), and decided to try a metal lure (blue fish). What a shock, when on the first cast I caught my biggest salmon ever! 🎣😃
Nice 👍
Love it 🤙
Rodger , I can’t get enough of your brilliant informative videos . What’s your location ! Where are these beaches ? I must check them out 😅
We have mole crabs, pipies, blood worms, ghost shrimps, and other live baits here Roger but where I live only mole crabs work well with most species. Wonder why. Also this time of year, we get skunked most of the time until the water is a bit warmer.
Where are you?
@@jameshudson3651 Indonesian Ocean south of Java.
Love your videos Roger, I'm visiting Sydney this weekend any recommended beaches please to visit to get the kids on some fish.😊
Live in PA and fish in New Jersey. I know we get blood worms in New Jersey. Often wondered if beach worms exist. I don’t think so. I believe you do not want blood worms to bite you. But, good as bait.
Hi Roger and Gday from sunny Queensland , i have enjoyed all your vids and often wondered why you specifically target those bottom feeding rays , is your sinker too heavy ??? to me it is a loss of a bait and time , i go for top and middle water feeders , thank you for all you vids , cheers
Thanks Colin, at certain times the Rays are a pest, but I still catch plenty of quality fish on the bottom hook
Great tips👍 By the way who is behind the camera? Like who's filming all those great shots???😊
Rebekah my camera woman
@@RogerOsborneFishing Great! My compliments to her👍✌️
Hi Roger, love your videos. The beach looks very familiar, but can't place it, which beach is it please.
Sunburnt Beach

What? No salmon! I was just about to coin you the salmon magnet..
`that beach looks awesome Roger , where abouts is it exactly?
Sunburnt Beach NSW
The are called Rag worms in England!
👍😍❤️ GRAZIE ❤️😍👍
I have eaten beach worms before as a drunken dare before. Luckily I was that drunk I don't remember what it tasted like.
Classic, thanks mate
Hi Roger, have been following your channel for several years now. Also subscribed to your channel multiple times as my subscription disappears from time to time. Love watching your fishing adventures BUT your secrecy to location is very frustrating, please share approximate area so others can have a go as well. Understand you are on the northern beaches, but at least give us a clearer understanding of good fishing spots! Thanks for sharing your knowledge. 🙏 Have you fished Forster, Old Bar, just moved to this area, want to know if worms are easy to find here and what fish are best fishing here. 😊
Gotta remember that Roger goes fishing a lot and we really only see his successful trips.
I have not eaten a beachworm yet, however when too many people are fishing on my favourite jetties and are noisy i will catch a yellowtail put its head in my mouth and bite its head off.scales blood and guts everywhere many get queezy or sick and pack up and go home
Thats funny. I am sure you would freak some people out
@@RogerOsborneFishing it does roger.but tastes like oysters too so its never an issue to do it again 🤣
how do you setup your rig I didn't see any video on your page unless I missed it 😂
Why do you go in the water and cast when you are not casting too far and you can do it from the dry land?
Just habit. I like to be near the water
@@RogerOsborneFishing Interesting!
BTW Roger we have a fishing bait product we were wondering if you accept sponsorship?
Any in NZ ???
Hey roger I was also wondering since I’m only 14 and my family isn’t really interested fishing with me, do you think I’m better off with one or two rod
Would be gd to throw a drone up and see how far underwater that rock goes out.cast near the edge of it.
Prob gd jewfish spot at the right time
Bloody drones and sounders. Just fish haha
@@dragginmedown i know but technology has increased our chances over the years with lures braid rods reels the whole lot motors etc so why not keep on pursuing it with the sport
@@tiller_gorilla7220 all good mate just joking.
Trusty Garden fish 😂😂😂😂😂
Hey roger I have a 5000 shimano Sedona with 15lb braid and a 7 kilo rating penn 9 foot rod would that be alright for this fishing
Yes Mathew, Perfect!
Don’t eat a worm.
