I always liked the form factor of this handheld.
The backlit one you have there is the TFT screen version. The IPS version have the same screen size as the original screen
I had 1 about a year ago. This color exactly. My issue with it was finding some games were pretty difficult and expensive. I ended up getting rid of it but the controls feel very good.
You could have got a flashcart.
@@jimbotron70 I should have. I believe they were around $80 for the flash carts and idk It feels different for me to use a flash cart. If I can, I feel having the authentic game is better.
@@a1austin They are the same bytes, only disincarnated from the cart rom 😀 I use mine with Gameboy, very handy
@@jimbotron70 very nice. Yeah it was just more hassle than I wanted really. The analog stick was very satisfying to use.
I bought mine when it first came out and I imported some games from Europe & Japan but what I liked most about it was it has a separate battery for game saves and now there's a person on Etsy that offers a backlight mod I play Neo Geo games on my modded 3DS

First the Atari Lynx, and now the NeoGeo Pocket Color? Wow, could the Vectrex be next? :) I purchased my NPC during a period when Amazon was selling them at a very affordable price, along with 4-cartridge packs. The NPC excelled at fighters, which isn't surprising when you consider the big boy Neo Geo. I was a fan of SNK Gal Fighters (insert "Chick Fight!" comments below), but I was addicted to Picture Puzzle because I'm boring and have no friends. SNK vs Capcom Card Fighters Clash (had to look that up) was considered by many reviewers to be one of the best carts for it. I had that cartridge! Did I play it? Sadly, it's one of the many games on my Wall of Unplayed/Underplayed Shame, along with Final Fantasy Tactics (PSP), Advance Wars (GBA), and too many others.

I got this system when it came out back in the day and absolutely loved it! The micro switch d pad is awesome and was perfect for all the incredible fighting games that came out for. SNK vs Capcom mach of the MILLENNIUM is still one of my favorite fighting games!👍👍👍👍

I bought when released and had all the carts. Good little system but like the GBC, way better in emulation since back lighting and bigger displays.
I had a neo geo pocket color bsck when it was new. The games were amazing. I played so much neo turf masters and capcom vs snk match of the millennium.
My friend, I remember this and...how angry I was when I found out it was not a handheld AES. That is what I wanted so badly. Here is what right never made any sense to me...the Pocket features a Toshiba TLCS900H 16-bit processor and a Zilog Z-80 8-bit co-processor. Both run slower than the AES's 68K and Zilog Z-80 but essentially they are the same. Even the RAM inside the Pocket isn't that far off from the mighty AES. So why do such a thing? It is my belief had SNK went with an AES handheld for a few dollars more it would have sold like mad. I would have purchased every single color the Pocket came in, no question. Hey man, nice find.
Addendum- The Neo Geo Pocket is more like playing on an Atari Lynx, Turbo Express, and (or) Sega Nomad as it is a 16-bit machine. The Game Gear was basically a handheld Master System and quite a bit weaker than the Pocket.
Bonus- Did you know that Sega and SNK were partners in 1999? The Neo Geo Pocket can be connected to the Sega Dreamcast. If I remember correctly they share some game content for certain titles.
No backlight and the low resolution made this system redundant for me when I got an SP.

It's rather easy to polish the "glass", no different from original GB/GBC/GBA. Takes about 20 minutes. You just need to remove it from the case. For finishing touches it's best to use some cloth with toothpaste.
The joystick had such a light but unmistakable click. Also, for the time the NGPC had an unbelievable battery life (~40 hrs), and the color display looked much more colorful than the GBC.
I like this handheld because it was one of the first handhelds that had a Sonic the Hedgehog game for the system. Now of days you can get the analog pocket with the adapter if you want to pay for the adapter because Analog can't sell it with the the handheld.
I WISH we had a more Modern Handheldd with a D-Stick or D-Nub! China why have you not done this yet!!!😭

You have the wonderswan color? That would be an awesome review. I remember getting it to play ff1, 2, and 4 lol. The neo geo pocket color was something i unfortunately never owned
It is in fact from Sonic 3, not Sonic & Knuckles (that had a different title theme)
Also, for the gameplay section of the video, you could have captured game audio directly from the audio jack to make it clearer

Man I regret getting rid of mine. I really loved the joystick, it was perfect for their arcade games.
Not all their stuff is so expensive. The little arcade thing is cheaper than Sega and Taito equivalents, but its nearly all fighting games.

I stil have my neo geo pocket color and one with a back light mod I have this one in the box it’s almost mint condition
To be honest the NGP was badly marketed and suffered from an anaemic software library outside of Japan. It sold poorly, hence the high prices today for non Japanese hardware. Certainly not ahead of its time, its being compared to the gameboy that was into its second decade and already had a 'colour' version out, and the game gear that was also nearly a decade old.
More Game Gear than Gameboy.
The master system and game gear sonic felt so bad. The momentum sucked. This one looks a lot nicer with movement.
