  • This is day 2 of our series, Cat'n To Ocracoke 2019.
Cat'n to Ocracoke is a World Cat Boat owners event where a flotilla of boats travels from Morehead City NC (sponsored by Fort Macon Marina) up Core Creek, Adams Creek, The Neuse River and then through the Pamlico Sound all the way to Ocracoke Island on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
    Highlights:
People Hiked from TN to Ocracoke - 0:26
Ocracoke Inlet Navigation Map - 3:28
    Ocracoke Inlet Visual - 5:09
    High Speed Trolling - 6:30
Returning Through The Inlet - 9:53
World Cat Party with Friends - 13:07
Day 2 of this even is designed for guests to tour the island, see the lighthouse, explore the island, sit on the beach, relax by the pool or as we did, participate in the World Cat fishing tournament.
We were the only boat from our group that ventured offshore and there was only one other boat, a 40' Charter Boat, that had a 1/2 day morning trip. They only ran 8 miles out to a wreck for some bottom fishing while we ran 30 miles offshore for some high-speed wahoo trolling action.
Other than a cargo ship and some sort of dredging ship we never saw another boat offshore while we were fishing.
Out time was somewhat limited due to the weather forecast. We were out in 15-20 mph winds. Starting around 2pm, FishWeather.com was predicting winds above 25mph and we didn't want to get caught out in a location we were not familiar with. Not that we would want to get caught in any bad weather but especially when we do not have local knowledge of the water ways.
We were on the water from 8:30 to 2pm and it was great getting to know Lin and having him teach us more about high speed trolling for wahoo. We worked the ledge trying to get a bite but never found the fish on this trip.
We headed back in, I jumped in the pool to cool off, then got a shower, took a little nap and ended the evening with a great cookout provided by World Cat.
They provided a spread of boiled shrimp, BBQ, and all the sides you could want. Not to mention some of our fellow World Cat boat owners fished around the inlet and caught a ton of blue fish. The restaurant next door was kind enough to fry them for us so everybody that wanted to could have a little fresh caught bluefish.
Typically, bluefish are not my favorite, but when the come straight out of the water and into the fryer, I have to admit they taste pretty good.

Thank you for posting this, and much-thanks for the overhead view of the channel. I've been through that channel countless times since the late 1970's, and the channel has moved significantly over the years... Last year I was heading out but could not find safe-water; it was white-water all around. (blowing 20-25 S).... I aborted and fished inside....

    I'm interested in a 29dc.
What's it like to fish offshore in the DC?
    I have owned 2 world cats 266sc.
Just wondering about visibility over the bow?

the 290DC definitely rides bow high relative to the newer 295DC and 296DC models where World Cat made adjustments. The 29 line is a great platform. Super comfortable and fast.
