I ran trains for BN when this 6706 was brand new. And, I am sure I worked on this engine many times as it was used as a coal motor into and out of the Power River Basin. This saddens me so much as those SD-40's were such loyal servants. Nothng like listening to them SCREAM coming out of the mines or up Moorcroft hill, etc. Goodbye my beautiful friend.

There’s no such thing as a cemetery, so don’t send those old units away, fix them and you won’t have to spend more on engines that might be bad, although I love the K5LLA on the lead unit
@Cristal Boutte Most of them are scrapped and others undergo an analysis of their condition, only one will be restored and it is the BNSF 555 Dash8-40BW.
@@chuckgilly it does seem like a waste. If up to me I would find a way to make them safe and comfortable for the crew and run them until they can't take no more.
@@gmac8852, I would think that most of them would be rebuilt by National Equipment and Larry's Truck & Electric. The GE B40-8Ws are becoming popular with short lines. I have a bad feeling about the 3 EMD GP20s.
@@chuckgilly or let some of the short lines get them really cheap to help out economy. Every train don't need big power and those 20s could probably get some life with a little money. Just a thought.
Look at all those dead locomotives.(except for BNSF 555 that went into a coma for one and a half years) Although BNSF 234 is still alive without the engine running. BNSF 555 is on its way to get restored. I think the leading engine taking all the dead locomotives is strong like Luisa
