Thank you so much for watching and for the support :) I actually enjoyed this project a lot and especially the end when things where coming together.
Making a trebuchet without blueprints was a bit challenging, but it also gives me more room to be creative along the way. A ballista would be awesome to give a go at some day!.
Looking forward to bring you another video in not so long from now. Cheers!

always a fun little build... looks like it still needs a bit of tweaking, getting the counterweight to the right amount, getting the top pin angled for optimum release timing, etc...... I did a small scale one years ago from a plan I found that originally called for using popsicle sticks....it would throw a 1/4 ounce fishing weight across my living room with a suprising amount of speed. i've threatened to scale up to the size I could fling a golf or tennis ball, but my wife said she didn't want me arrested for laying siege to the neighbors..

I've been on extended sick-leave for 7 years, for suffering from mental illness. It's not easy, but with help and medication, I have crawled up from the darkest of the abyss and I'm now taking life at a slower pace. I've never been handy or practical, I was always the bookworm. Therefore it came as a surprise to both me and people around me when I took up woodworking as a hobby. I got my hands on a simple used 200-dollar lathe, a set of beginner's tools and a set of carbide cutters and some other odds and ends. Wood is both hard and easy to come by; parts of a birch felled by a winter storm "found" their way to my porch (which is also my woodworking shop) and I buy 2by2s and 2by4s fir from the local home improvement store. Anything more exotic than that is out of my budget, unfortunately.
The focus I need when I'm at the lathe is like meditation to me now. Even though I only turn and carve small things; mortars and pestles, small mushrooms, magic wands, every finished item, piece by piece, is slowly re-building me, giving me more reasons to believe in myself.
The inspiration to start doing this... is you. You, and other CZcamsrs who inspire and educate through your videos, who've spent countless hours creating them.
I am so grateful to you and your fellow makers, thank you!

I made a several small models, based on popsicle sticks before moving on to a larger (about 20cm) model. I did a fair amount of research and found that the throwing end of the arm should be around 4x the length of the counter weight end. making the throwing end as light as possible also helped with the overall performance. The other thing to note is the ratio of counter weight to projectile, aim for around 100:1. The 20cm model I made was not safe to use indoors, the power was quite surprising. Yours looks a lot better than my attempt.

Good fun build! I built one 14 feet high that throws a 4.5 kg concrete ball. The angle of the hook, the length of the sling, the weight of the projectile, the weight in the ballast box all determine the trajectory of your projectile.
Trebuchets can throw backwards or even straight up if the mentioned variables are not tuned correctly.

    - The slide would work better if it is one piece (you wanna make sure there are no lips or edges that the sling can get caught on)
    - For weight use coins! they are much denser work a lot better than dirt

Very nice build. Impressive that you did it without a real blueprint. Ever hear of a Murlin Trebuchet? Build one of those. You'll love it.
