Why I bought the Z690 OVER the Z790.. - ROG Strix Z690-E Motherboard (Review)

  • I needed a Intel 13th Gen Motherboard for my endgame PC Build.. I chose this one.
    In this video, I'm reviewing the ROG Strix Z690-E Motherboard. I'm giving you my thoughts on this motherboard and whether or not I would recommend it to someone looking for a high-end gaming motherboard.
    Note: I was able to speak with Asus/ROG about the Memory limits regarding the differences between the Z690-E and Z790 and they can vary greatly depending on your CPU. With Intels 13th gen you can hit a max of up to 7000 mt/s under guarantied OC conditions (possibly more with extreme Overclocks). The rated 6400 mt/s max previously mentioned by ROG was in reference to intel's 12th gen Raptor Lake processors. TLDR - this Motherboard is even better than I thought lol.

    nice video man :D, if you are using that hyte y60 as case for this build, then it would be the big brother to my build wich is a Z590-E on a hyte Y40, hopefully upgrading to the one you reviewed here when prices get a little lower 😅🤣

    Hi, very informative video. Have you found out 4 Ram used way? May consider Kingstone Fury Beast Ram (4 ram stick) and let me know if it's working. Can you share your full pc specifications details including casing/psu etc?

    • @zekedgtl
      @zekedgtl  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Yea the verdict is - your can’t use DDR5 x 4 and expect full speeds / OC Speeds.
      You will have to sacrifice performance when using more than 2 dimms or a packaged set of DDR5. There are more resources out there to understand why and possible workarounds within BIOS but I ultimately ended up using a 2 stick set of 64gb DDR5 RAM from the same brand and everything’s stable and fine. There are no benefits of running 4 sticks (essentially running 2x dual channel) other than purely cosmetic

      Much love! Yea I’ve heard some stuff after the fact as well, but personally I haven’t had any problems. I video edit on it anywhere from 4-12hrs 6 days a week and some occasional gaming since I got it and it’s held up. Most issues with ram I’ve heard of often come from people using too many separate pairs of ddr5. Things get unstable but that’s also not a motherboard problem lol 🤷🏽‍♂️

    Just to give you a heads up. This motherboard does not like have 4 sticks on ram. You have to constantly run on safe settings without XMP. Currently on 4 sticks of Corsair 6000 32GB.

    • @zekedgtl
      @zekedgtl  Před rokem

      You got that right. Later in the video I address it briefly. If you’re able boot you’re gonna have to sacrifice speeds for stability, (which is a no go if you planned on OC). Go 2 Dimms total for most efficiency & stability

    • @lesliegrace8360
      @lesliegrace8360 Před rokem

      @@zekedgtl Keep those spare 2 sticks of ram, it is harder down the road to find 2 identical specs to match - timings,speeds, etc. Tried again today to turn on XMP and lowering voltage from 1.35 to 1.3 as well as lowering speeds to 4800, didn't post. Decided to leave it in there and force boot into safe settings. There's a new bios update released in March 2023.

    I like how the new Strix boards with 700 chipset have only 4 Sata_6G, despite the fact that the chipset allows you to have up to 8 Sata_6G, looking at 1/3, 1/4, 1/2 cheaper boards from ASRock, Giga, and MSI, you just wonder how they had enough money and opportunities to put 6 and sometimes 8 Sata_6G on their much cheaper boards. And for this I hate Asus, because the company in its premium line decided for the user that 4 Sata_6G is enough for him, and the rest of the properly working HDDs and 2.5" SSDs the user will connect through additional crutches, because the RoG series is very cheap, and there will be extra money.
