I think it's because Robin has a son, who if he died, would be an orphan. And then he also had a baby on the way. He had a family to think about that was better off with him around. And I think it was everything coming full-circle. Emma unintentionally taking Regina's happiness away and then returning it to her by any means necessary. Because she promised her. And because if Robin stepped in, Regina would be miserable anyway. She would once again have lost her happy ending with Robin. I'm not saying you're wrong, to sacrifice yourself for someone is an act of love. In this case coming from Emma. But I'm saying Robin had good reason. Because if I understand it Regina isn't the one who's going to raise Roland now that Robin's dead.
Emma also has a son and yet she still sacrificed herself. Compared to Robin, Emma has a bigger family meaning that the time she went to sacrifice herself, she didn't only sacrifice her own happiness but also leaving Henry, Regina, baby Neal, David, and Snow to deal with her sacrifices and the aftermath. In my own opinion, Robin was a coward. But anyway, I don't really like instigating ship wars since it's too time consuming not to mention pointless. He'd be fine. Roland would too, I mean, he has the merry men, but it's not the same has having your father. Hell, Roland might miss his father less than Henry would miss Emma given that he's younger and much less likely to remember his dad well, but that doesn't change that he'd be an orphan. To be honest, I see where you're coming from. I remember on Castle, Rick was always ready to sacrifice himself for Kate regardless of the fact that he'd be leaving his daughter behind, whom he'd been the sole parent to for a long time and who loved him dearly. (Teenaged and with a grandmother, but still.) I just don't always think this choice is practical. Especially when you have small children that rely on you. But that's just me. I feel like there are times true love for your child has to win out over true love for your other half. (That you need to be aware of the risks of the choices you make and how they could affect your child.) Kind of like how Snow left the underworld to be with Neal even though she didn't want to leave David behind. I think they're always going to try to make sure that at least one of them will be there to raise their son, unless they have no other choice.
