Love the video. The wear and tear a classroom goes through 10 months out of the year is truly shown!! How you keep your classroom well organized blows my mind!! Waiting to use your flexible seating is absolutely smart because you have to do the not so fun part of writing your policies for them😩!! The best part is you can gather ideas for your policy from other teachers. Use what works well and discard what doesn’t. I had the experience of writing technology policy for my home school system when I was younger with my father who had a pilot program of laptops. We learned from experience of bigger systems to generate our policy!! I cannot wait to see your full flexible seating classroom in September!!

Students take the popsicle stick with their name out of the basket and put it in the bucket of their food choice from the lunch menu (I.e., if they want entree 2, they put the stick with their name in the entree 2 bucket). Then a student counts how many students chose each option, and sends the numbers to the cafeteria so they can prepare the correct amount of each choice. Then the sticks are put back into the basket. I did something just like this when I taught third grade.

To cover the windows on my classroom door, I bought a peel and stick blackout paper window shade (Home Depot or Lowes). The temporary window shades you often see in new homes. You cut them to size and they are long enough to cover any size door/windows. The shades are pleated and come with two clothe pin...easy up/down. If you wanted, you could easily decorate the shade with duct tape...but I like the solid black. The one I'm using now I've had up for three years. Just thought I'd share😊.

My classroom is always a mess. I have piles of paper everywhere, things shoved in random places and I had to zip tie my desks together bc at the end of the day they had all migrated into a crooked mess. I’m SO SUPER impressed but a realistic classroom....this is not what I’d call realistic only because most teachers I know are not this organized and meticulous in keeping it that way. This was super helpful! Thank you for taking the time to make this. It’s helpful to hear that not all of our ideas pan out or it’s okay to switch to something that works better! Have a great summer!

    Heres something you could do
You could put a task for them to do and if the do it within a week you get a treat like packets of potato chips (idk what you call them) mini packets of haribos or mini chocolate

One good thing about moving is your organization of materials will make packing so much easier. Those snap boxes and drawers can be kept as is and just moved. If you can find enough, those extra large ziploc bags ( larger than gallon size ) could be used for your picture books. If I were you, I would keep your science/ social studies binders and project materials as the school may change back to having you teach one or the other of those classes in 2021. You know how that goes, everything changes year to year. 😏 By the way, the room looks amazing for the end of the year!

I used to get in trouble for reading in class ALL THE TIME! It was super frustrating and I know a lot of students who ended up hating reading because of that. I can tell you're a great teacher, I just want to remind you that when a book gets good, it is hard to put down. Continue the confiscating and stuff but be willing to sit down with that student and remind them that reading is fun and highly encouraged but they need to give their full attention to you during class time. Teachers would just take my books and write me up (which only made me read more out of defiance), which didn't help me feel like I was doing a good thing. Love the video!

Love how organized your classroom is. Currently in college now to get my degree in early childhood education and just browsing videos of how to set up classrooms. I want to teach 3rd grade. That's my top choice. But I'd be happy with 1st or 2nd grade ♥️

As a 13 year old girl I want to give you an idea. My 5th grade ELA teacher had the most smartest idea of a sign out sheet for the restroom pass. She would hang circular metal cooking trays. Then she put on circle pieces of paper numbered 1-30 with a little magnet on the back and you would move your number magnet once you left the classroom.
