We're entering an interesting time where after the summer, we actually don't know what Nintendo is planning and what games are coming out for the rest of the year. We have some ideas of what Nintendo could be doing to keep everything moving along and still make 2024 a great year. Also in this episode, we're playing a lot of new games but on some unexpected systems and we dive into the drama that's happening at Square Enix with the Dragon Quest development teams. Fun Fact: There's never been a DK themed console at retail. There were a couple of extremely rare GBA SP and NDS systems you could only get through sweepstakes and the green N64 was just a bundle (it was also sold separately from DK64).

Still really surprising to me that Xenoblade X, the two Zelda remasters and Yoshi’s Wooly Wooly World all haven’t received the port treatment.
If any of them have been ported, it’s now or never!
The eclipse is only spectacular if you're in the path of totality. We got totality here in Montreal, and it was absolutely amazing! The thing is that you can take off your eclipse glasses when the sun is completely covered by the moon, and it's an undescribable moment. EVERYONE is focused on the same thing during that moment. Old and young people, police officers, the homeless and the rich, everyone was in awe at the surreal sight of it. Sounds cheesy, but for that moment, there was nothing but positivity and nothing else that mattered. It's that larger than life moment reminding you that you are part of cosmos, and I'll remember that eclipse for my entire life for sure.
I recommend you to travel to totality next time there is one in North America. It's worth it!
100%. Glad I was in path of totality here in Ohio too. Seeing the sky go pitch black for a minute during daytime was something I'll never forget!

It always felt like a shame we never got special edition Nintendo hardware themed around DKC Returns or Tropical Freeze when those games came out just because the aesthetic of the silhouette stages would look so incredible for a hardware design

It sold 4.6 million copies on switch alone as of December 2022, should be well over 5million now, sounds pretty good to me for a "barebones" port. The WiiU version sold over 2million copies, considering that even mario 3d world "only" sold 5 million copies just shows how unpopular the wiiU really was.
Kit coming out strong with his year of DK idea. I love it!! I would also add bringing DK64 to NSO and adding other rare games to NSO. That seems to bring a lot of media coverage when Nintendo and Microsoft work together to do something unthinkable. Another great episode!!

@@AREAlhero just like a little bro, following me around 🤣 anyways the larger point being that here's K&K IN APRIL pontificating what Nintendo could do in 2024 to extend and keep relevant the switch. Krysta even says at one point that there's literally nothing currently to look forward to.
The one thing that NSO would have a huge benefit from is Pokemon being added. Putting all the games from Red all the way to Emerald would be huge for the service and would drive subscriber growth and reduce churn more than any individual game. There is no Pokemon release for this holiday for the NSO release of gens 1 through 3 to compete against, and the sheer popularity and nostalgia for classic Pokemon is big enough to treat all of those games coming to NSO as a centerpiece for holiday marketing.
Pokemon on NSO is not likely to happen given NSO supports cloud saves, unless it were to not support Pokemon Home, which in my opinion it would need to. So their hands are kind of tied. This is because cloud saves would allow you to dupe Pokemon, and The Pokemon Company has shown they are not going to allow the potential of Pokemon duping even in almost wholly single player games (Legends Arceus, and Legends Z-A was also just confirmed to not support cloud saves).
The most likely way this could come to fruition is if NERD made a separate collection of these games that utilized their emulator to the same capacity, but this of course would be sold at its own price point.
They should release a Nintendo Selects line to stay relevant. Dropping all of their best titles down to $20-$30 would encourage people to buy all the games they missed out on.
Also, I’ve always pronounced Marle’s name the same way Krysta does, “Mar-lee.”

If you haven’t seen a total solar eclipse I can understand why you think it’s not a big deal. But during a total one you can look directly at the sun during the 2-4 minute totality phase (well technically you’re looking at the moon at that point). It’s really something and worth your while if you can see one in the future! Partial eclipses are like, nothing in comparison.
Chrono Trigger was such (and still) a big step in the JRPG scene for a lot of reasons.
1: No random encounter
2: Multiple endings
3: New game+ feature
PS: I only want Zelda Wind Waker HD + Twilight Princess HD for the end of the Switch. It's so easy money for Nintendo. Like... Please ahah.
2024: New DK game, New Mario Baseball anouncement, Nintendo Selects, etc. Kit is standing tall with his odeas with DK. Its been a decade since we had a new DK game. This is a good episode with a little solar eclipse on top
I think this would be a good year to put Metroid on the spot. If Prime 4 is well in development, they could release the remaining parts of the trilogy and begin the Prime 4 hype cycle.
First of all, thank you for answering my question on the Zelda for Wii U tech demo at E3 2011, from the 1:49:16 to 1:521:45 mark. Give me an Ocarina of Time remake that looks like that, but even better since it would be on newer hardware, and I’d be beyond happy.

Kit, a total solar eclipse is definitely awesome in the path of totality. You get to see the the corona and bright pink prominences....parts of the sun not normally visible to your eye. Pictures don't do it justice. The experience is surreal.
Given the compartmentalized nature of Nintendo, it might have never reached you guys, but Vicarious Visions was making an Open World DK known as DK Freedom. Remember Skylanders TurboCharge DK? That was just the beginning. But the project was canceled by the end of 2016 due to Activision wanting VV resources to go to Crash Trilogy remake and Destiny 2.
Donkey Kong Freedom was the Bala Brothers game, the last game Karthik and Guha Bala did at Vicarious Visions. Not much is known about Donkey Kong Freedom but it was 3D, and Pauline was playable.

I've always pronounced it as m-aww-ruhl (the way Kit pronounced it). That's what the lady in Final Fantasy 7 Remake is called and spelled in sector 7, the land lady! 1:04:26
Re: Marle's name pronunciation; I always read it "Mar-luh" but looking at the Japanese name, it appears to be "Maaru" so it would appear that "Marl" is arguably the correct pronunciation.

About the complete versions of games; there were rumors about a Smash Ultimate version coming out, but so far that hasn't happened. They have done a Splatoon 2 complete with DLC physical, BotW physical with dlc, and MK8D physical but most of the DLC (it only doesn't have the final wave) in Japan only. However, you can still import those games and they play them in English (except for Splatoon 2 for some reason)

If it doesn't include Diddy Kong Racing - nevermind, it would HAVE to include DKR. I might like DKR more than Mario Kart overall.
On the topic of helping indies - what if Nintendo hosted a Nintendo Game Jam? They could have small prizes and give a lot of visibility to new gamedevs. THAT would keep Nintendo's brand in focus.

1:07:51 The fun thing about the Mobile version of Chrono Trigger is that you can use the backbone for it. I’ve been playing on the DS because of a couple extra features, but the mobile port was my second choice. I just would rather play on a physical console. lol

I think I'd be more than happy if 2024 was the year of remakes, remasters and indies. For the entirety of the Switch's lifespan I've been wanting Switch ports of Woolly World, Kid Icarus Uprising, and the Zelda remasters. And some of my favorite games of the past few years have been indie, games like Ori and the Blind Forest or Grapple Dog; currently, Penny's Big Breakaway is my favorite game release of 2024. If the June Direct has even just one of those remasters plus a few promising indies (c'mon, Silksong...) announced for winter, it'll be a good winter for me.
(Also, in terms of the pronunciation of Marle, the Japanese pronunciation, that we can determine from the characters used, is Māru, which would seem to imply that the English rendition is pronounced Marl, rhyming with Carl. And for Ayla, the Japanese pronunciation is Eira, so it'd be pronounced Ay-Luh.)

I'm still playing my Switch daily and still have a lot of fun with it, despite how much it has aged. I wonder what prompted the delay for the successor console. Was it the continued strong sales? Was it shortage of parts? Was it the new software titles, whether by Nintendo or third party partners, weren't ready for launch? Was it they saw how successful the Steam Deck has been and are beefing up the specs a bit to make the new console more in line with that device?
The Wii situation was quite different from the Switch. The Wii hit the wall hard and had a steep drop off in support once casuals got bored of motion controls and played games on their phones instead. The Switch has maintained strong support over a longer period of time. The Wii got hot quickly and burned out just as fast.
Would like to see a yellow DK themed switch lite Oled to launch alongside the collection. Also 1/4 scale DK arcade machines (DK, DK JR, DK 3 models) similar to Replicade or New wave toys but higher quality with USB c battery power and replicas of the classic Nintendo joystick and buttons for the office desk gift. Gameboy Advance mini. Pandoras Tower HD.

Before hearing their ideas ~ I'd suggest focusing on the most beloved brand titles and do a multi pronged "attack"
Make small cross over DLC content between these titles where you can.
Make external content (such as fun art connected to very current products and events outside Nintendo) to make people feel connected to these games they love In the here and now.

They need to resurrect some of their forgotten franchises…I mean look at Metroid Dread and Pikmin 4, both are the biggest successes in their respective franchises already! Give us a new DK, Starfox, Earthbound, Wave Race, Diddy Kong Racing, F-Zero and obviously Metroid Prime 4 please lol.

Marle is called "Maaru" in Japanese, so it seems the intended pronunciation would be closer to "Marl".

One idea, find a fun indie game that's almost finished, and ask the developers to put Link in the game, or another Nintendo character. That indie game will have a lot more eyes on it.
Outside of Smash, I haven't played any games on my Switch since Sea of Stars (which isn't even exclusive). Luckily, I have a PS5 and PC to play other games, but I'm disappointed that Nintendo has not announced anything to make me look forward to 2024 for their console or games. A remake of TTYD is awesome, but it's not the same as a new game.

Seriously, though....since Nintendo has ironed out Nintendo 64 emulation with N64 NSO, and since they've got RARE on board with things like Banjo and Goldeneye....and "Switch 2"'s rumored delay, I feel like this Holiday is the perfect time to release a Nintendo 64 Classic Edition, rather than a GameCube (as much as I would LOVE a GameCube Mini/Classic Ed, its time will come...). Just think about it, imagine Nintendo doing N64 Classic Editions in select FUNTASTIC colorways. You have the traditional charcoal black/grey version, and maybe a Jungle Green, a Grape Purple and maybe like a Fire Orange version or something like that.... And, we can get even more unbelievable with it....The Funtastic versions and additional Funtastic controllers are ONLY available as Nintendo Online exclusives (like the Nintendo Switch NSO controllers), but the standard charcoal version is available in retail stores, on Amazon, etc. Everyone said that the N64 Classic would never happen because RARE wasn't on board with games like Banjo or Goldeneye...but now it seems that they might be a bit more receptive of that since they're on NSO. Thoughts?
Also....randomly....I'd LOVE for Nintendo to do another version of the NES and SNES Classic Editions, but in NES Top Loader and SNES Jr./Model 2 form factors instead of the originals...just like how Sega did a Genesis Mini 2 of the second Genesis model. Imagine how absolutely adorable those two consoles would be in miniature form...

I think the Game Cube mini is not something they'll even consider because they're better off just porting / remastering / remaking these games on Switch. They have done it for Pikmin1 and 2, Metroid Prime, Mario Sunshine kinda, and now they're releasing Paper Mario, without mentioning all the 3rd party games. I think there are still plenty of games they can re-release on Switch or the next console and others they may include in the next console online service.

Hey I've never played Chrono Trigger but I was curious about that name "Marle". I looked it up & her original Japanese name is "マール (maaru)". It would be pronounced in like "Mahru" (the "ru" said like you're starting to say the word "rule"), I'm not an expert tho but I think that would be a good way to understand it coming from English speaker's view 😅. Anyway sounds like the way Kit says the name is closer to the original Japanese 👍🏿

Oh huh, I guess Marle is pronounced Marl. Japanese is written phonetically, and Marle is written as マール (Maaru), meaning it’s read as Marl in English-based on the combination of the Japanese and English spellings anyway.
Is it me or was Kit really rude with Krista in this episode? I know they have a lot of fun and mess with each other but there were partes I felt Kit went kind of hard with Krista. Like when they talked about ray tracing, the “don’t look at my computer” part, or the 3Ds section.
