That oregon full skip, 73exj, is the fastest chain I've found for our hardwoods. I sharpen them as soon as I make a new chain up off the roll though. Lol. Something about skip chain works well for me.

I started using a HEXA file on all my chisels chains.
    I’m running full skip too.

I have thought about that! Not sure if they cut much faster. What do you think?

@@timberandtools Faster than round file and incredibly smooth. I had a few round file chains that I converted then started converting my square chain to HEXA. I’m currently playing around with converting .404 chisel to HEXA. The files are about $20 from Stihl and getting much easier to find.

      @@timberandtools I recommend it!
I set the rakers to .040 and I think top plate was 30 degrees. That’s what works for our stuff, I’ve had the depth and angles all over the place. Anything between .025 and .050 , and 20 degrees to 40 degrees, would cut good depending on what type of wood and chain speed.
