- This week's Veg Hack focuses on the extraterrestrial looking kohlrabi... it's definitely one of the more unusual looking vegetables you'll find in our veg boxes.
Here's chef James breaks it down into 4 cuts and suggests ways to cook and eat each of them.

Always get these in our CSA basket (community supported agriculture) and have never known what to do with it! Thank you! Have an enormous one so will try half roasted and half in a salad!
Such a high-quality video! Cannot believe that you have just 5k views. The moderator has an excellent voice, the script is well thought out and the video editing so precise and intuitive. Congratulations and wish you all luck from Germany.
Greetings,
Varun
while growing up i hated it because they've always cooked it into soups. i still only like it row as and afternoon snack with a bit of salt, but i will try the roast too now. thx.
Thanks, nice and simple but really helpful and all that I needed to know! 🙂
The kohlrabi most popular veg in Poland the best for chunky soup
Using this versatile veg is a really good addition to anyone's cooking and really good to get recipe ideas from countries where it is more familiar.
Growing for the first time this year. Can't wait to try it. Thanks for taking the time to help us!
Excellent video thanks, never tried kohlrabi but just planted some so now looking up what to do with them!
Never had it before. Looking forward to trying it. Thanks for all the tips.
Thank you, that was excellent & informative! I was hoping to be able to use the leafs and stalks too. They look tasty!
Thank you for the very compact video! Very informative in a short time. Love it
Lots more ideas on our website recipe pages to enjoy too Samantha - happy cooking!
Great vid, music a bit distracting. Love Kohlrabi, used it in coleslaw, used stalks with rainbow chard stalks and lots of garlic and cream in a gratin, delish!
Looking forward to doing all of this with my kohlrabi this year! It's getting close to harvestable!
Great presentation, keep it up.
Love it!
Awesome! Thank you! I received a German turnip in my weekly veggie box and I'm excited to experiment with it!
Happy cooking!
Grew this for the first time this year from seed, glad I watched this as I didn't know how to use it!
Thanks
Congratulations on your bumper crop and glad our Veg Hacks will help!
This was super useful and clear ! It would be great to make for other veggies. Leaks, artichokes etc. I’m eating kohlrabi for some time and I was always throwing away the leaves :(
Where I come from I never heard of cooking it. Ever since childhood, I just peal it and eat it raw as it is. Also it's common to put it thinly sliced on piece bread with butter. My grandma patiently peals it by pulling the skin down with a small knife, it goes off quite easily
Yes James!
Growing for the first time this year. Looking forward to cooking my own homegrown! Thank you for the video of how to :)
Fantastic. Hope they come along well!
Lovely
thanks dude!
Very helpful! Great to know most of the kohlrabi is edible! Thanks!
Glad this will help you make the most of this wierd looking but wonderful tasting summer veg!
Nicely produced and interesting but to be honest not sure about the music in the background 😫😝
Great, thanks. Can you cut the bulb into wedges to roast?
They do make a good addition to roasties in small chunks or wedges as long as they aren't too big, Lots of recipes to try here using the different ways of prepping them: www.riverford.co.uk/recipes/Kohlrabi?
There is white stuff like white dot dot on the inside of my German turnips I don’t know what it is! I don’t think it is off but I haven’t seen this before so I don’t know what to do? Pls reply thanks
My Thumb up is for your idea to use the leaves like spinach.
Glad you love that simple zero waste hack!
Could you do one on Swiss chard? I’ve 2 now and no idea what to do with them
We have a video about Swiss Chard coming out on Monday at 9am
A popular suggestion - to use up the ones you have already do try some of the recipes here: www.riverford.co.uk/recipes/chard?
When I tried to cook the stems from the store bought kohlrabi, they were quite bitter, is it better for soup?
I got 6 big kohlrabi from a friend and thats why i come to this video
Every one says to cook them. How long do they take to cook? No one tells me that.
Lots of info on our video plus more recipe ideas on our website, including full instructions for timings www.riverford.co.uk/a-to-z-of-veg/kohlrabi

Great vid but kill the music please
Turn the music off!
