They seem to be a collector's item, were before their time, and more popular now than when they were new - fairly rare in North America, only a few thousand sold in 2005 and 2006. They go for ~$3000 to ~$5000 USD used in US and Canada. There were a lot more sold in Japan 2004 to 2007.

Totally! I fantasize about an electric version. My electric scooter is about 15x cheaper to run (electricity vs gas), and almost zero maintenance.
