There are many reasons to enlist in the armed forces. Each of us has our own story. Mine was twofold. My family's military service goes back to the 1800s and I needed a job. What's yours? Whatever it is you must remember this. Serving your country is not about you. It's about protecting us and going above and beyond the average citizen every day you are in service. It's a lifestyle. It's commitment. It's enduring hardships that most people can not imagine. It's about the friends you make, teamwork, and getting the mission done no matter how long it takes or what you have to do to accomplish it. Most of all you have to have fun. I was also in broadcasting in the Air Force. I totally loved it. I retired after 30 years. What you experienced Mikayla was/is the same that I experienced. I loved every moment of it.

What a smart move for you. Somehow your video showed up for me as a CZcams pop-up and found it really interesting. My Dad really liked the Army Air Corps / Air Force from 1944 - 1958 in electroincs communications. and I know is how he met my mom when stationed nearby. I remember being 5 when my Dad spent a year in Newfoundland. That I do remember but he soon then left per my mom's request when he was to next head to Germany but his Air Force experience sure paid off for him for his next job. I am retired and did know four retired IT information technology Air Force who joined our firm and they all did well and were great to know. i also have a friend who wanted to be a doctor and his only way was through the Air Force. I went the college route after high school fortunate to have been accepted in to an IT intern program with a company that paid my way through college. Thank you for your service.

I hope to join early 2023 . I talked to my recruiter last year November. I work construction and I'm not good in math at all so it's hard for me to study 🙃😂 cuzz I'm so tired by the ends day . But I have all the notes I need for math and now I jus gtt try study some practice questions and hope I do good on the asvab . Plan on taking it next month October
I'm a retired USAF MSgt. I did 23 years active - moved 14 times and was in four different AFSCs, the last of which set me up to walk into a corporate job with a Fortune 50 company when I got out. Your videos make me want to go back and do it all over again. An eye opener on pay and benefits used to be the annual RMC letter. Realized Military Compensation which shows the monetary value of your retirement plan, your tax advantage on BAH and BAS,etc. Am assuming you still get 50% at 20. So a 38 year old would have to have how much invested to pay them a monthly dividend equal to your monthly retirement check? I meet so many people my age who are now struggling with retirement, medical care and when they look at what 23 years on active duty gave me they openly admit they wish they'd stayed in.

I wanted to join the Air Force at 26 but had complications, but now my process is good to go and joining this fall 🙏🏼 You at 25 is perfect, go for it. My family and friends who joined tell me is well worth for the experience in self growth and expanding your potential. Pushing yourself out of comfort is what will make you stronger. Mikayla, you make some good points here. There is a lot a potential benefit in joining the military: job skill training, work experience, LIFE experience, educational benefits. But you also make the point that serving in the military isn't all about the individual. Its about functioning as an effective part of a team toward a common goal. "It's the mission - not you." And that means that sometimes you sacrifice: you can't always serve where you wish, can't always be doing the job that you wish and can't always take leave when you wish. And that, more than anything, is what separates the military from civilian employment.
I did 14 years as a Security Police Security Specialist assigned to SAC, USAFE and TAC HQ on 4 continents The USAF has the best jobs, the best living conditions, the best food and the best looking female Officers and Airmen, some with beautiful brown eyes!!
To transfer your 9/11 GI Bill benefits to your dependent(s) you must ensure they are listed as your dependents in DEERS and, BEFORE you separate, you must assign at least one month of the benefit to each of your dependents BEFORE you separate (if you don't they won't be eligible. You can reassign benefits later as long as they have at least one month's benefit at the time of your separation) The 9/11 GI Bill pays for 36 months of public, in state college tuition. There are limitations but you get more benefit by taking more classes because the benefit is based on the months you are in class, not the number of classes. (i.e, you use up the same amount of your benefit of you take one class for one month as you would if you took three classes for one month. Both would use one month of your benefit) If you want to go to a private university, check with admissions because many private universities have what is known as a Yellow Ribbon program. If they accept this, you can use the GI Bill to pay for school and the school forgives the difference in tuition cost. When youbare using your GI Bill to go to school (while you are no longer active duty, you can use it on active duty but you don't get full benefits) you are entitled to Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) at E5 single rate based on the location of the institution for full time in person classes. (if you remove all benefits from any of your dependents, they are no longer eligible to use the benefit) So my daughter's tuition is paid for by the 9/11 GI Bill and she receives BAH at the E5 rate and a $1,000/year book stipend. If she doesn't use all of the GI Bill entitlement for whatever reason, I can transfer whatever is left to myself, my wife or my son and it can be used by someone else.

I'm just curious cause I'm at the "point" in my life where like I am looking to settle down and I know being in a relationship in the military is hard. So what are yours thoughts/experiences if I may ask?
I think relationships while active duty heavily vary based on your job, where you’re stationed and ultimately the person you’re with. In my experience, I have seen plenty of both healthy and unhealthy relationships while active duty. There is definitely plenty of opportunity to meet someone while in the military and settle down though. Wishing you the best!
If you are active duty, can you go see any civilian doctor if you're willing to pay for it? Or do you always have to go to military doctors? Let's say you want to go to a very good civilian doctor that a friend recommended you, can you just make an appointment an go/pay yourself? Some people might not want to go through the whole process of scheduling an appointment with your military primary care physician and then be transferred to a specialist and all that which could take longer than you want to wait.

I graduated from community college with an Associates Transfer degree and I found on Google that if you graduate with a two-year degree or greater you will be paid more, I believe my rank would be E3 . . ? My second question is, I have disabilities. My main ones are XP and Scoliosis. I really want to be a part of the Air Force, financial freedom is literal heaven. I don't want to be told I can't join because of this. However, when I wear a back brace and cover myself in protective UV clothing, I can accomplish anything! However, I'm scared that I'll be turned away. I have to join! Please help.

I was an honor graduate. 10% chance. Help others pass. It is not about the money. If you join, a chance you may die. I didn't. But disabled. Shit happens. Keep in mind, it can be deadly. Regardless of your position. I went through 2 volcano eruptions and earthquakes. Luckily survived. Oh, and Desert Storm. At least I am paid for life. Unless Republicans vote that away. 🙄 USAF the best force to join. But I wouldn't be here if my family not army, marines, and USAF. That survived. We have always been survivors, since WW1. Not one of us has died in war. We have killed lots of enemies. WW1 to Desert Storm for sure. 😁 The job.
As of December, 2022: $1833/month (base pay), before deductions, during basic training, and depending on your selected job into tech school, too. You need to get your financial house in order BEFORE joining. In fact, if your finances are in disarray, you can be denied enlistment, due to being seen as a risk.
hi mikayla, im 15 and i really want to join the air force when i am older. i dont know where you stand politically, but i am assuming that the overturn of roe v wade upset you, specifically since you are a fellow female. if so, did it affect your enthusiasm and commitment to the country when they have taken away your rights?? idk if that makes sense, but i find myself questioning if i want to fight for a country that wont fight for my freedom and choice over my body. id love some insight because i really dont want to give up my dream but i also want to stay true to who i am.
hi, i've been in since early 2021 and happy to answer any questions. overturning of Roe v Wade is not the first, nor the last poor decision our leadership has made and will continue to make. you're gonna have to choose some jobs if you do enlist, so my advice would be to see what pursuing that dream looks like with vs without the AF and see which you think will get you there faster/more comfortably. tbh almost everyone i know in all branches, including myself, regret enlisting and plan to get out ASAP. if its your dream, then go for it. i just thought that would be helpful to know. look at the pros and cons. you'll probably be underpaid, in stricter working conditions, and longer hours compared to the civilian equivalent to that job. biggest pros imo were making all the friends, connections, and memories. hope this helps paint a more realistic picture by knowing a little of the good and bad. last thing, also consider space force! its the same thing but w less bases but theyre all good ones
@@MegaMijit What is your job? You've been in about a year, so I assume you're still in your teens or early 20's. Basically, you're upset because your required to work and can't spent hours at work on your phone. I realize work to many people in your generation is a bad thing but it's in your future no matter what you do. Step back and look long term where are you going to be in 15-20 years and beyond. I retired in 1999 and hired on with the Az Dept of Corrections, I retired from there in 2020, I started social security in 2021, I draw 3 retirement checks a month for $6500 clear. I haven't paid a medical bill in my life or never had a student load. Think long term my young friend. One good thing about the military is if you don't like your supervisor wait 6 months and you'll get a new one. Best of luck to you no matter what you decide.

To the old guy coming to complain about how my generation doesnt like to work. Sir, i've been working since i was 14 years old(started on lobster boats), and usually held more than 1 job at once like many young people have to today. and yet, you think we're lazy. okay. you've probably only ever had one job at a time, which sounds pretty lazy in comparison. news flash buddy, my generation is BY FAR more hard working for way less compensation and benefits than yours because we have to just to scrape by these days. this is the state of things that we are left with due to the inaction of your gen. think long term? i think about how i dont want to hate everyday of my life working in a place i legally cant leave for years unless i want to face prison time. you're literally giving up your FREEDOM at that point. so you call it what you want, but our gen has smartened up to the point that we know our worth and dont put up with shitty working conditions. crazy concept i know. basically what youre saying is "shut up because benefits" which is terrible advice bc the military isnt even the only place you can get majority of those benefits. however, it is the only place thats made me come in to work on weekends unpaid, . that wouldnt fly at any of my civilian jobs. there's a lot of things the military will put you through which civi jobs never would. To answer your question, i work in tech and on track to retire in less than half the time than the traditional 20yr. but i know i could have gotten here faster and more comfortably had i not enlisted. I have friends non-military working in same career field that did just that. So im just passing along what i wish i knew/didnt do at that age to those about to go down the same path.
This was a brilliant commendable question to ask especially for you age. Someone told me long ago that the quality of your questions determine your quality of life, so keep asking great questions. In addition to space force, i'd also suggest looking into the other components such as Air National guard and reserves.
Govt employees are non political so you can vote for a blue party in the military ;) or a red party ;) but if you are too political it can hinder your work and might get arrested. USMC family.

Hi ~ ^ ^ thanks so much for all of this wonderful information. I plan to join this December, and I have a few questions that I hope you would be able to answer. I graduated from community college with an Associates Transfer degree and I found on Google that if you graduate with a two-year degree or greater you will be paid more, I believe my rank would be E3 . . ? My second question is, I have disabilities. My main ones are XP and Scoliosis. I really want to be a part of the Air Force, financial freedom is literal heaven. I don't want to be told I can't join because of this. However, when I wear a back brace and cover myself in protective UV clothing, I can accomplish anything! However, I'm scared that I'll be turned away. I have to join! Please help.

Get a pulmonary function test to confirm or severity. If it determines u have asthma you cant join.
Try making money as a civilian and get a pilots license. Try working EMS or have a job hope this helps.

I was an honor graduate. 10% chance. Help others pass. It is not about the money. If you join, a chance you may die. I didn't. But disabled. Shit happens. Keep in mind, it can be deadly. Regardless of your position. I went through 2 volcano eruptions and earthquakes. Luckily survived. Oh, and Desert Storm. At least I am paid for life. Unless Republicans vote that away. 🙄 USAF the best force to join. But I wouldn't be here if my family not army, marines, and USAF. That survived. We have always been survivors, since WW1. Not one of us has died in war. We have killed lots of enemies. WW1 to Desert Storm for sure. 😁 The job.

As of December, 2022: $1833/month (base pay), before deductions, during basic training, and depending on your selected job into tech school, too. You need to get your financial house in order BEFORE joining. In fact, if your finances are in disarray, you can be denied enlistment, due to being seen as a risk.

hi mikayla, im 15 and i really want to join the air force when i am older. i dont know where you stand politically, but i am assuming that the overturn of roe v wade upset you, specifically since you are a fellow female. if so, did it affect your enthusiasm and commitment to the country when they have taken away your rights?? idk if that makes sense, but i find myself questioning if i want to fight for a country that wont fight for my freedom and choice over my body. id love some insight because i really dont want to give up my dream but i also want to stay true to who i am.
hi, i've been in since early 2021 and happy to answer any questions.
overturning of Roe v Wade is not the first, nor the last poor decision our leadership has made and will continue to make. you're gonna have to choose some jobs if you do enlist, so my advice would be to see what pursuing that dream looks like with vs without the AF and see which you think will get you there faster/more comfortably.
tbh almost everyone i know in all branches, including myself, regret enlisting and plan to get out ASAP. if its your dream, then go for it. i just thought that would be helpful to know. look at the pros and cons. you'll probably be underpaid, in stricter working conditions, and longer hours compared to the civilian equivalent to that job.
biggest pros imo were making all the friends, connections, and memories.
hope this helps paint a more realistic picture by knowing a little of the good and bad.
last thing, also consider space force! its the same thing but w less bases but theyre all good ones
@@MegaMijit What is your job? You've been in about a year, so I assume you're still in your teens or early 20's. Basically, you're upset because your required to work and can't spent hours at work on your phone. I realize work to many people in your generation is a bad thing but it's in your future no matter what you do. Step back and look long term where are you going to be in 15-20 years and beyond. I retired in 1999 and hired on with the Az Dept of Corrections, I retired from there in 2020, I started social security in 2021, I draw 3 retirement checks a month for $6500 clear. I haven't paid a medical bill in my life or never had a student load. Think long term my young friend. One good thing about the military is if you don't like your supervisor wait 6 months and you'll get a new one. Best of luck to you no matter what you decide.

i'm just saying its worth looking at the cons and the opportunity cost before making a major life decision. congratulations on drawing 3 retirements. thank you for your service. please hear me out. the world is in a much different state than it was 20+ years ago. allow me to enlighten you. there's a reason why enlistment and retention is at an all-time-low, so its not just me. and definitely not for the reason you think.

Sir, i've been working since i was 14 years old(started on lobster boats), and usually held more than 1 job at once like many young people have to today. and yet, you think we're lazy. okay. you've probably only ever had one job at a time, which sounds pretty lazy in comparison.
news flash buddy, my generation is BY FAR more hard working for way less compensation and benefits than yours because we have to just to scrape by these days. this is the state of things that we are left with due to the inaction of your gen.
think long term? i think about how i dont want to hate everyday of my life working in a place i legally cant leave for years unless i want to face prison time. you're literally giving up your FREEDOM at that point. so you call it what you want, but our gen has smartened up to the point that we know our worth and dont put up with shitty working conditions. crazy concept i know.
basically what youre saying is "shut up because benefits" which is terrible advice bc the military isnt even the only place you can get majority of those benefits. however, it is the only place thats made me come in to work on weekends unpaid, . that wouldnt fly at any of my civilian jobs. there's a lot of things the military will put you through which civi jobs never would.
To answer your question, i work in tech and on track to retire in less than half the time than the traditional 20yr. but i know i could have gotten here faster and more comfortably had i not enlisted. I have friends non-military working in same career field that did just that. So im just passing along what i wish i knew/didnt do at that age to those about to go down the same path.
This was a brilliant commendable question to ask especially for you age. Someone told me long ago that the quality of your questions determine your quality of life, so keep asking great questions. In addition to space force, i'd also suggest looking into the other components such as Air National guard and reserves.
Govt employees are non political so you can vote for a blue party in the military ;) or a red party ;) but if you are too political it can hinder your work and might get arrested. USMC family.
