Thank you for doing something other than White Rabbit or Somebody to Love by them. This is another example of how Jefferson Airplane could build a song to a beautiful climax. She Has Funny Cars, Crown of Creation, Lather, House at Pooneil Corners, Wooden Ships, Eskimo Blue Day are all well worth your time. Short history - Paul Kantner and Marty Balin co-founded the original Jefferson Airplane with Jorma Kaukonen on lead guitar. They soon added Grace Slick, Jack Casady (bass) and Spencer Dryden (drums). Over time, Marty left the group and the band splintered into Paul & Grace and Jorma and Jack. Paul and Grace did several LPs together and evolved into Jefferson Starship. Jorma and Jack became Hot Tuna and Joey went on to play with The New Riders of the Purple Sage. Marty joined Jefferson Starship for several years but ended up leaving again. Eventually Paul, and later, Grace left Jefferson Starship which then became known as Starship.

That was Grace singing with Marty during the second half of the song.

    What's next from Jefferson Airplane?
    I'd recommend:
    Comin Back to Me
    Eskimo Blue Day
    Volunteers
    Fly Trans Love Airways
    Crown of Creation
    Embryonic Journey

Sounds so much of its time - and that’s such a wonderful thing

Marty Balin on the fantastic lead vocals here; the man had pipes. "Blues From an Airplane" from their first LP is another ethereally beautiful song, also sung by Balin. "She Has Funny Cars" is sung by Balin with Grace Slick on discant, weaving around him; that song was used in the first episode of "Stranger Things."

Once he began recording and performing acoustic music around 1990, I produced many concerts with one-time long-time Jefferson Airplane lead guitarist Craig Chaquico. I absolutely loved his music and he could not have been a better or nice person to work with. I felt like we were pretty close over a 7-8 year period.
He has had dinner at my home twice. As a favor to me, performed (free) for children at a resource poor middle school nearby. The kids who were there that day will never forget it. Another time after one of our concerts he performed an extra set at a live music club in our town for a very reasonable fee. 25 years later people still mention that night to me.

My favorite Jefferson Airplane song. My brother would record FM stations on his reel to reel all night long and we'd listen to what he recorded at a later date. I was asleep with headphones on when this song started playing. It immediately woke me up and I've loved it ever since

Grace Slick playing the recorder, and Marty's vocals hit straight to the heart ~ 💜

A lot of people got married to this song. Gorgeous.

Gorgeous song, sung beautifully by Marty. I'd suggest "We Can Be Together", "Triad", "Pretty as You Feel", "Coming Back to Me", or a personal favourite of mine, "Martha". And yes, I think you're right - both Stevie Nicks and Florence Welch are very probably heavily inspired by Grace.

This album is one of the first ones I bought with my own money. I was a teenager when this came out. I played it to death. Another great song on that album is Coming Back to Me.
