    Guild Wars 2 just announced a 3rd expansion is in the works! This is in addition to the near 30 Living World episodes (DLC's) that the game has. The new Developers at ArenaNet have been incredible and it is still a great time to try this game out.

    • @MuklukYoutube
      @MuklukYoutube  Před 4 lety +5

      @@mithrasabyss2765 Absolutely. GW2 doesn't have a "gear treadmill". They don't raise the level of characters or gear every few months like some other MMO's so you don't have to worry about "catching up". It doesn't take long to hit 80 (the max level) and after that is horizontal progression, meaning they keep adding more things to do at 80, that you can do in any order you want.

    • @MuklukYoutube
      @MuklukYoutube  Před 4 lety +1

      @@infinitybelt I hope so as well! There is no gear treadmill in this game, and because they don't raise the level caps all of the end-game content is still dangerous (no going back to the first raid and soloing stuff, still requires a raid group for example).

    • @Busketroll
      @Busketroll Před 4 lety +22

      Besides, ressing people in GW2 is fast and easy and have virtually no drawbacks. In WoW you often had to expend a decent amount of time and mabe even resources into ressing someone just so that they might not even respond, and frankly you were better off not having other players around sniping your kills. GW2 was buildt on the idea of teamwork and cooperation, which i think is a really solid idea to build an MMO on. I really loved playing another MMO: Black Desert Online, but couldn't stand how the game evolved into a PvP free-for-all later on and griefing were not only common, it was encouraged.

    The best thing I can think to say about gw2 is how incredibly diverse it’s population is in their gameplay. Guild wars really offers something for everybody, no matter what your motivation is for playing. Story, character customization, role playing guilds, a true, living, breathing world for the people who are interested in developing characters. Crafting and the Trading Post for people who want to earn their gold from working the market. PVE events and raids and fractals for people interested in them. Optional PVP and massive-scale warfare in WVW. The game rewards you for anything you want to do! If you don’t want to do hearts for experience, there are so many other options. You get experience just for walking around and charting sectors of the maps! It doesn’t make you do anything you’re not interested in, and I think that’s a fantastic foundation for the game.

      I met 3 people while doing the "Not So Secret" JP. Three of us were doing the parkour for the first time, it was really hard and we were hanging there for like an hour. I even dodge rolled down 2 times until I decided to look in the options to disable the double tap dodging. One of my new colleagues was a mesmer and then I learned how OP they are, especially for the JPs. When we got to the hard part and I fell all the way down, they just teleported me up. Another person was hanging around that one JP especially to help other people do it and give them tips, he didn't even need the achievement. Except the main JP goal there was a second route for the Dive Master achievement with hidden diving goggles. So the cool parkour dude came with me, told me the exact position and direction of the jump and then told me to dodge roll backward. I landed perfectly without having to aim, otherwise I would propably fall on my face and do the whole parkour another time.

Even though I was doing the jp as a mesmer, where I could put tp before making the next jump, still took me lots of times because I kept making big jump for small area or small jump for small area so I missed. Another reason was most of the times when I fell, due to height, I died right away xD
      Edit: and I forgot about the dive so after getting the chest for completing the jp I had to figure out timing for the further mechanics. I mean, since I learnt so much to get to the chest, if I had did the dive first it'd be wayyy easier and less time taken to finish everything

    One of the main reasons I've stuck with GW is the lack of power creep, or to put it another way, players can't use real money to become overpowered. Everyone at level 80 can reach more or less the same power level. No one is over-powered. No newbies can come in and put all your year's work to shame in a week, by spending thousands of real world dollars to kit themselves out.
    This game is all about the effort you put in. The gem store is more for aesthetics, adding storage, adding buffs, buying another character slot, etc. I hope it stays that way.

The 2 expansions are basically buy 1 get 1 free. When it comes to DLC, you do have to pay for a few extra maps and stuff... BUT, if you're an active player, as the new DLC maps come out, new story, etc, you get those FREE just for being active. If you come late to the game, then you gotta buy the DLC, but anything from here on out, as long as you sign in on a day the new DLC is active, it's free! No monthly subscription fee either! How do they make money? The mentioned gem store which is all cosmetic or ease of life. Things like fancy skins, or items that give you unlimited use of items you normally have to spend in game currency to use. But no pay to win or anything. Don't wanna spend IRL money? Like the video says, you can trade in game money for that even! The monetization is amazing and I honestly willingly give my real world money to the game just because I love the game and love how generous the Devs are with monetization and want to keep the game going. I can choose to give, or not give, as much as I want or am able to. Plus, I get cool fancy skins or ease of life items. Win/Win! That's AMAZING for a fully featured game like this.
    Furthemore, the last thing is the community. Sure every game has toxic people, but this game has the fewest I've ever seen of any other game and the people are kind, helpful and very willing to just play with random people. It's really an amazing community where people come together to just enjoy a great game. I can't express how amazing this community is. I've been playing for just over a year now. The day I joined the game, some random person saw I was new and spent 4 hours showing me the ropes of the game. The 7th day I was playing, some random person saw I was struggling with having enough bag space and spent game currency to just randomly gift me bigger bags. When I hit level 80 on my free account (about a month in the game) some random person just gifted me a full set of new armour to help me along. All those people asked, was that when I had more in game money to spare, that I do the same to other new members. I've done so plenty of times and asked those people to do the same. It's a cycle that I've seen lots of people follow in game and it makes for a caring and giving community. Don't expect free stuff, or feel entitled to get it. But I'm just letting you know this community is very kind. If you're entitled, you'll get shut down fast. But make friends, have fun and see how great the community is.
    Those are the big main reasons I recommend the game. Plus... it's just an awesome fun game with lots of content like this video outlines. Besides, what have you got to lose? The entire core game up to level 80 is totally free! NO credit card required, no gimmick like, "play free for 7 days" or "free for a time then you're automatically charged money if you don't cancel." It's none of that. It's just FREE for as long as you want. When you cap level, buy the expansions if you want to keep playing and even that is buy 1 get 1 free.
    I don't work for GW2, I don't get any kickbacks, this is just my honest opinion of the game.

      @@user-sd6zz2hm2u Yeah I love how a new character class can make the game seem like a fresh new game. The character classes in this game are really interesting and different from other games and from each other. Makes for great replay value. Even within one character, your build can change the feel of gameplay. The mage class (Elementalist) can be a super glass cannon dagger user that you struggle to keep alive but do massive damage. Or play the same class, but with a toughness build on staff and it's completely different. Then with the expansion, the 2 elite specializations make for a completely different gameplay feel again. Just changing weapons and specs make it all new and different. I love how each weapon gives you a different set of skills to refresh the gameplay on a single character. And that's all just within one class! Plus the mage class can be a distance spell wielder, an up close melee caster, or a healer. With so many classes having so many options, the replay value of the game is awesome. Even if you don't want to do the story again, just playing PvE, World vs World or PvP, your build/armor/weapon can affect the gameplay and make for such a fresh experience. Other games, the gameplay is the same, your weapons/armor just increase stats. But GW2 it creates a whole new play style. It can be daunting and tedious, a bit scary even, to try a new build. But it can make for fun and refreshing gameplay that you can easily swap between.

    I had stopped playing this game a few years ago, and was afraid of coming back and being disappointed with low population. After seeing this video I'm coming back to it. One of my characters wasa a warrior healer lol. I had a build that made my warrior put flags on the ground that buff everyone in a 60 yard radius and heals the lowest health people. My items were half tanky, half healing power so I could offtank nicely as well. It's rare to see a game that support teamwork. Just a reminder, try to talk to people, get to guilds and know others a little better. The experience improves a lot when playing with others. Plus the game feels a little lonely when playing alone (maybe it's because I used to play this with my exgf, I'm not sure. I'm just too used with games telling me what to do. This game gives you a lot of freedom.)

      @@BraheemIII Come on. ESO is way much overpriced with this stupid DLCs and Expansions for a casual player. I would never work for 1kk gold or pay 3500 Crowns for Psyjik trait line. And not because I am poor. Paying money which is enough to buy a whole new expansion in GW2 just for ~20 hours of gameplay and then grind for Skill line? WTH is wrong with you? Of course GW2 is a downgrade for ppl that has no life and can let themselves to play 8+ hours per day. But for casual player, GW2 is the best MMO for it's price and money needed. Also, I never saw better events for Christmas or Halloween or SAB. And as for gameplay. You really will say that WoW or ESO feels the same in combat as GW2? Really? This stupid wood animations of ESO is the only thing that drawing me back from playing this. ALL CLASSES WITH THE SAME WEAPON FEELS THE SAME. I have sorc, nightblade and dk in magica build with staff. Feels the same. STRONG and DEVASTATING abilities feels like i am using Basic attack in GW2 and even in GW2 with the same weapon different classes feels different. If you have no life and ready to invest tons of time - GW2 is a bad choice. If you are looking for a good 1-2 hours of game per day with friends or GF or wife or kids - GW2 is a best choice. It all depends on what you are looking for. But even here, Grinding sometimes for the whole day in GW2 also is very rewarding. Grind means making money in every game basicaly. I do not agree with you for 100%. Sometimes I want to grind and get some REALLY APPEALING REWARD which GW2 can't offer if you do it on a regular basis. In gw2 you need a purpose to grind, a purpose stronger than just grind for a chance to drop gear. You don't need it. And the fact that you can find a reason to grind and it could be different every time is far better for casual players or even players that respect their time THAN grinding just for a drop chance.

      I don't know if this is why it didn't click with you but I often help new players and it's not that uncommon for me to hear that it doesn't quite click with people at first. I've found that it's usually because it's been so ingrained in people that an MMO should be a certain way. They're used to having a lot of guidance, you just go from A to B to do quests and the game just holds your hand the entire time, you don't really have to think about it. I get comments like "So what am I supposed to do now?", "I feel overwhelmed by everything" and I just say... Do what you want, here's the multitude of options, the world is your oyster but some people really struggle with it.
      GW2 just doesn't really hold your hand, or barely. It gives you choices with everything, it's a sandbox. Sometimes people struggle with not being able to set their own goals. I think it's important to be open to really immerse yourself, decide things for yourself, put yourself out there to make friends to play with, set your own goals. The game isn't going to force you to do anything really. Make it your journey, it's your story, your game, your choice.
      It's a refreshing sense of freedom which is not for everyone, if you like to just grind linear quests and not think about things then GW2 isn't going to be for you but I have seen a lot of people who prefered it that way who then did end up clicking with it and they haven't looked back since so maybe it's just a matter of time and being open-minded. Play it as if you've never played an MMO before.

    One big good part is there's no subscription, you pay for expansions but they're usually well worth the price and it's a one time charge if you choose to get it

    Very limited vertical progression - that's the main winning point for me. I won't have to change all my gear in 6 months as it happens in FFXIV, making all the effort I've put in the game useless.

    • @Zanktus
      @Zanktus Před 4 lety +5

      Agree. That was the reason I now take a break from FF14. Farmed the Eden gear, even though it wasn't interesting and everything got pretty much outdated just with the patch introducing the Nier stuff, the green stuff from dungeons were dropping nearly the same iLvl stuff as Eden. This catch up system is really bad and makes progress feel stupid, because you do it temporary and it's worthless for the long run (except cosmetics maybe).

      Except gw2 end game is essentially meaningless as all gear is side grades except only 2 or 3
      Types are useful. The legendary grind is one of the most unrewarding CHORES I’ve ever made the mistake of completing (weapons and armor) raids are fun but pointless as the gear is usually ugly (with a few exceptions). Post launch non legendary cosmetics are either exclusively cash shop or stupidly low drop chance or more expensive than an epic mount in classic. Dungeons were abandoned for fractals which I hate as infusions are an awful idea. This game is such a disservice to gw1. If you enjoy it more power to you but I don’t understand how you justify the abysmal reward to time investment.

      @kartiz Před 4 lety +8

      Johnathan it’s not a perfect game and will never be. Still it’s been very enjoyable for me - I like to take my time to reach my personal goals and I love being able to take a break, come back and still have relevant achievements and gear. And I really enjoy the journey more than the end goals - fractals, raids, map exploration, meta events, story and pvp are great for me.
      I would obviously not recommend the game to hardcore gamers or those who are always looking for a new challenge, but for everyone else it can be an awesome :)

      @@john-fi2ni Well simply because I don't aim for BiS Gear like Legendary? I don't intend to do that chore if I can enjoy everything with Excotic or maybe Ascended stuff, too. I don't need legendaries/BiS to run with friends around doing stuff. I would only do it for cosmetics, but that's it. I own this game since release, I was fine without going for a gear grind if it wasn't needed. If you are more happy with your gear you farmed for weeks getting worthless every 2-3 months which is the case for the traditional gear treadmill, then I won't stop you. I don't get my enjoyment out of this and rather take gear progression as a side activity.

      @@john-fi2ni Legendary gear was actually very convenient with the ArcDPS build templates. The new official build "templates" made legendary gear more INconvenient and totally not worth getting anymore.

    Best thing also is you can choose what road you wanna take in making legendaries. Specially the armors. It’s not required at all but its nice to know its not just a 1 route road to take if you decide on doing it. So many options.

    I love playing my Elementalist (mage) with Celestial (a bit of everything) stats.
    While it is generally considered as non-optimal, I love the versatility of being able to do anything with reasonable efficacy. And it has the most stat points of any stat combination.

    TL;DR: This video is fantastic, Mukluk is an excellent person, and I want to play A LOT of Gw2 now.
    I am a veteran and played for over 10k hours since Sept. 2012. Even though I do not need any videos like this one, because I already know why I love and hate this game, I still watch them from time to time to see what others play this game for. Also, I am sometimes curious about how others would explain Guild Wars 2 to potential new players. So I have watched a bunch of beginners/why play gw2 types of videos, and I have to say yours is the best.
    The quality of both the explanation and the visual examples, plus those two aspects making it a cohesive unit rather than feeling as if it is just thrown together, make this an excellent video. It is easy to follow and understand, and I am sure if I wouldn't have played the game yet, this video surely would make me try it.
    Anyways, it is like I said the best 'Why to play' video out there, in my opinion. I personally think Arenanet can learn from you about how to explain the game to someone and make them want to try it. I will continue to play Guild Wars 2 now because you sure made me want to play it a lot more.
